I thought I would save a few bucks and install a door opener myself. I soon realized that with the configuration of my garage door it was much more complex than I realized at first. I called John at San Clemente Garage Door based on earlier reviews I had read and everyone (with one weird exception) was spot-on with 5-star ratings. He took a look and determined that I needed an accessory to modify the door tracking that had to be ordered. He followed up with me when the part came in and was early on site both times. John is fantastic! He installed a new wall mount garage door opener and the quality of work is of the highest quality and his prices are fair. However, I am most impressed with John's business ethics. I just bought this house which was built in 1999. I discussed on the phone with John that I am considering replacing the springs while he's doing the work and he said he'd check it out. I also asked him to take a look at any other maintenance I should consider. Long story short: he told me he replaced the springs on my garage for the previous owner a few years ago and I had many years of life left so no need to spend the money. He suggested a very inexpensive strut to strengthen the garage door, and he offered to lube all of the moving parts for free. Loved these guys under the previous owner and now love them under the new owner. Called John on Saturday, left a message about the problem, received a call back early Monday morning, and he was out to the townhouse to repair a broken gear on the opener. I spent $330 12 years ago to have a brand new opener installed under the previous owner. It lasted all this time, so the $150 the new owner, John, charged for the repair was well worth it, especially since he was so communicative and got the job done in just a few minutes. It is so nice to be able to just make one call to a vendor and have them come out promptly and make a repair. My tenants appreciate it as well (no run-around with the scheduling, multiple visits, etc.) I'm an out of state owner, and he had no problem taking my billing address and invoicing me and waiting the time it takes to receive a check in the mail. He doesn't take credit cards, so the extra trust on his part makes this an A+ vendor. read more

I have been a customer of San Clemente Garage Door for thirty years. Dennis and Pat were great business owners, honest and helpful. Since they sold the business, I called out the new owner to service my mom's and my own garage doors. He seemed nice enough. Recently, I needed to call San Clemente Garage Door for two separate services. The first gentleman was fine but my second experience was terrible. San Clemente Garage Door, now subs out their calls. This last men, Mandre, from Garage Door Service and Repair, out of Orange, came out to my high end rental house and told me I needed to have everything replaced. To the tune of $1400, I balked, he then told me, I could just replace some things for, $450 or I could put a bandaid on it for $189 but that would cause stress on the motor and blow it out. I opted for the lube and oil adjustment, for $189. I don't know if he tried to up sell me, thinking I am rich, because of the house or what? I do know, that when I call out a local service repair company, that is what I expect. When I paid Mandre with my CC, via a smart Phone App, he asked for ID, I appreciated that but, he then wanted to take a picture of my DL, I said NO, are you kidding? With phone hacking and identity theft, you want to have all my info, on your phone? But, the most disturbing thing was, after Mandre left, I discovered none of my openers would work. So another service call, this time to Golden Rule Garage Door, Taylor came out and reprogrammed my openers. I asked him to look at my garage door system and tell me if it needed to be replaced. He told me they were safe and fine for now but at SOME POINT, down the line, I would probably need to replace them. San Clemente Garage Door, lost a good loyal customer and Golden Rule Garage Door gained one. read more
