Having hosted the HGTV program "My House is Your House", we've worked with and vetted a lot of cabinet builders around San Diego and Southern California. I cannot stress enough how much of a mistake it was to choose San Diego Custom Cabinets for our kitchen cabinets on an Encinitas project. The workmanship is absolutely appalling (bad). The cabinets started showing signs of wear and tear within just a year. Some panels (dishwasher) corroded and started peeling. The gaps between panels were uneven and unsightly at time of build but especially over time became worse, and to top it all off, the cabinets have actually changed color over time, going from a dark brown (walnut) to a tiger orange. It's obvious all materials were of the cheapest and lowest quality, but beyond that the company's response to these issues was to push back and simply state the warranty period had expired. I should add, it was not only the faces of the cabinets that failed miserably, but the boxes were poorly constructed, including cheap/failing hardware (like the trash pull out which constantly fails (hardware becomes loose and needs to be manually tightened monthly). At this point, we've had no choice but to demolish the entire cabinetry system. We have incurred massive costs (since prices have dramatically changed) and our clients are displaced during this demo period. I'm beyond disappointed with this purchase and this company and would strongly advise anyone considering this company to look elsewhere. As a company and brand, we will not be working with SD Custom Cabinets in the future. We will not be endorsing them. And if actual or prospective clients ask for our vote of confidence or recommendation, we will point them to this review. read more

Susan helped us with design and walked us through everything. We did practically every room in the home and the one room we didn't do we asked them to come back to add built-ins because it looked so good. The process was not perfect and there were some hiccups along the way, but they dealt with it the right way and made us happy. That's when it really matters at the end of the day, because it's never going to be perfect. Having production so close by also helps so that when you have to audible and make changes, they can actually happen in real time and your project does not get majorly delayed. She walked us through every step of the process, spending time to understand our space and helping us come up with ideas to make the most of our cabinetry, and provided us with several samples to ensure the stain and paint choices were perfect. We did a complete remodel and needed cabinets. Our friends used SDCC a few years ago so we called them (among other companies). Craig gave me an initial estimate based on the size of our kitchen. The estimate was reasonable and we liked the quality/choices that came with custom. My husband and I spent a few hours in the showroom with Shanon and in the end our cabinets cost less than the original estimate (and we added all the bells and whistles--they said the estimate assumed we would). I loved that they didn't low ball the estimate to get us in the door. The cabinets were installed last week and we couldn't be happier with them. A couple of months ago we did a complete renovation on our kitchen. Needless to say this is a stressful process. I got four estimates to remodel my kitchen. I was doing the demo, plumbing, drywall and electrical. I needed someone to build and install the cabinets and install the granite counter tops. One of the last companies we called was San Diego Custom Cabinets. I made an appointment with Nick Gonzalez, he came out measured, answered out questions and helped us decide what we really wanted. About a week later Nick called and said he was ready for us to come to his office to look at the drawing he had completed. These were good, but as usual they needed some tweeking and changes. We took them home made the changes and met with Nick again. The changes were added into the new plans and Nick sent us the revised contract and plans. We started demo on Feb. 7, 2016 the cabinets were dropped off on Feb. 24, 2016 and started installation on Feb. 25, 2016. The installer was Craig. He was very accommodating and professional. He was a cabinet maker and a finish carpenter. He went out of his way to make my wife happy with the workmanship. On Mar. 5, 2016 Lorenzo from Sicilian Marble and Granite arrived to get the dimensions and and layout for the counter tops. On March 8, 2016 Sicilian Marble and Granite arrived with the owner Lorenzo and his instillation crew (Rick and ?). The outside contractors have finished. All and all I would rate San Diego Custom Cabinets, Craig (Cabinet Installer), Lorenzo and his crew all FIVE STARS. They were all professional, their workmanship was extremely well done and the costs were average. If I had another kitchen to do, I would not hesitate to call anyone of these contractors. Remodeling a kitchen can be a large undertaking (especially during COVID)! We had 3 different quotes for cabinets and decided to go with San Diego Custom Cabinets because they met our timeframe and budget. On top of that, they are a local business and could give me everything I wanted. We were able to take the plans my designer created and share them with Christine. She walked me through all of the design choices: style, color, and added her own suggestions from her years of experience in the industry. I loved that I was able to choose my own custom color and make additions such as pull outs shelves/drawers, a built-in bench with push-latch drawers, a custom walnut wine rack and even a baking sheet organizer inside my pantry! The beautiful cabinets were delivered and installed on time. Craig, who installed the cabinets, is a true craftsman, and I don't think I've ever met someone who works harder. Nick designed our kitchen from what we discussed and incorporated all of our wishes into a dream kitchen. When we removed our master bathroom cabinets we found that the prior installation of the cabinets was done prior to tiling the floor. So the tile was up to the cabinets but not under them. Because of this we needed to have new cabinets large enough to cover the exposed concrete - and yes we did try to match the flooring with no success. The prior design was not standard sized cabinets so we could not use off the shelf product. Custom cabinets were in our futures. We contacted several companies and obtained two quotes, most companies not willing to bid a job of only two cabinets. I chose San Diego Custom Cabinets because they understood my problem from one phone call and gave me a rough price on the phone. They then came out to measure and discuss options with us. They were slightly lower in price than the competitor that did bid the same job, but that was not the deciding factor. They simply know what they are doing. The cabinets were build to match an existing design within our home and they indeed matched perfectly. I built cabinets as a hobby some 10 years ago and I can confirm that these cabinets are well designed and built. No cheap hinges or drawer slides. They make me want to replace the cheaper cabinets in the rest of the house, and when I do I will certainly be giving them a call. Do not hesitate to at least call them for a quote.
