Was really hoping to have a positive experience with San Diego Decks. I called and had a really positive first impression with Monti over the phone. He sent me his email via text so I could send him pictures of our project and he was going to follow up with an estimate for our project. However after sending him an email with pictures of the project, I never heard from him. I followed up via email and text two weeks later and then another week after that. I asked him to respond to me either way...as to not waste my time. But to date, he has not responded or even acknowledged my request. Hoping others have better luck than we did. read more

We recently selected San Diego Decks to replace our old and rotted deck. To say they were very easy to deal with is an understatement. Despite several changes and unexpected obstacles, throughout the project, neither their attitude nor the quoted price changed. They were not upset to work with me to incorporate a motion controlled lighting system I designed and built into the deck. They even expressed a willingness to come after hours or after the job was completed to make sure we were happy with their work. I highly recommend San Diego Decks. Monti Barnes provides amazing customer service and his crew is so professional and hard working. I got four quotes and picked San Diego Decks because they were competitive but also very experienced. We needed to have our old Dex-O-Tex rooftop deck replaced but our siding is not stucco like most houses around here. It has unusual wood siding that needs to be milled to a specific style. He recognized it immediately and did not charge extra for replacing the pieces he had to remove to get the job done (unlike all the other quotes I received). Other companies actually expected me to replace the siding after they were finished. The crew of San Diego Decks showed up promptly every day at 7:30 a.m and wasted no time getting the job done. And the job wasn't easy - they ran into a lot of wood with termite damage and wood rot which they replaced at no extra charge. They communicated everything they were doing the entire time and when they were finishing the job they put in extra wood and finish work to make sure the deck siding was buttoned up and wouldn't have any water issues in the corners. They went above and beyond, they stayed at their original estimate and finished right on time. They were always clean, careful, and quiet. I can't recommend them enough. They also said we could call them if we had any issues in the future, but I know we won't need to. We are SO happy with our new deck. read more

I called this company twice regarding redoing a huge deck of ours, and we never received a call back. I'm not sure why we never got called back, but even if they are busy and don't need the business, a courtesy call back would have been much appreciated. Another company was nice enough to return my phone call just to tell me he doesn't service my area. Not San Diego decks, though. I'm going to revise a 5* review I posted before. There is a difference between saying the right thing and showing up, and doing the right thing--and showing up. My roofer ended up stepping in and saving the day before the rains, while San Diego Decks was busy with new business. Don't waste your dime on a call. read more

Our house is 15 years old and thedecks of the balconies off three different rooms had begun pealing badly, allowing water to get to the super structure, joists, etc. I had them resurfaced a few years ago and it was obviously a waste of money - anyone can just throw on a layer of waterproofing. Monti (owner) took time to explain exactly what I needed and how he would do it. He gave me a price and time frame and finished when he said he would. I now have three new decks - all with a new base, fire retardant, mesh and complete waterproofing. They look fantastic and I couldn't be more pleased. The crew cleaned up every day and after they left, you would never know they had been here - very clean. I will highly recommend San Diego Decks to everyone and even offer my home as an "advertisement", should anyone care to see the work they did. read more

Called and Monti answered right away. That was a good sign. He asked me to send photos by text which I did immediately. No reply. Sent several more texts. No reply. Many others report the same issue here. Glad that he's busy I suppose, but it's very unprofessional to at least not simply say he wants to pass on the job...or anything for that matter. read more

I was looking on the web for deck repairing companies in San Diego and found a web site that listed the top 10 deck contractors in San Diego with San Diego Decks on the list. I went to the web site of San Diego decks and watched the video Monti had. I was impressed and called him to set up an app. to look at our deck and give us an estimate to repair it. He indeed came and after he looked at the deck he said he would sent us an estimate. It has been three weeks and still haven't heard from him. Even though his visit was professional we think that for what ever reason he does not want the job it would be appropriate to let us know. This is not a good customer service practice. read more

Monti Barnes owner of Sab Diego Decks and his professional crew Kenny, Troy, Roberto and Nate just completed an outstanding job of rebuilding three second story decks off my kitchen, living room and front den. Monti as the owner showed up every day and either personally worked on the job with his crew or directed what needed to be done that day.Monti was very responsive to either a phone call or an email. Additional his crew showed up on time every day they worked on the three decks. It was a major rebuild and coatings of three 27 year old decks that had started cracking and leaking inside our home. I had San Diego Decks install a railing in my backyard, after my landscape was redesigned. I had met with them several months earlier to discuss the project and we talked about several alternatives. After some discussion, we settled on a plan and I asked for a quote. I got the quote back quickly and it was very competitive. I told them I would be in touch in a few months, after the landscape project was complete. And I meant it - because from that first meeting, I knew I had found the right folks for the job. I searched for months before deciding on this company to build a large deck along the back of my home. I knew what I wanted, something that would be basically maintenance free. Monti came out and explained specifics and cost. I changed the design to glass panels and added lighting during the process, and Monti cooperated and changed along with my ideas. The team working on the deck were extremely polite and courteous and friendly, everyday that they were there.
