We did a search for builders who could navigate hillside projects with caissons in fire zones and found Jameson. We'd been reluctant even to try to restore this deck because we'd purposely exposed it to the elements without sealing for more than a decade (a story there). We had been wanting to have some deck work done and to replace our existing wooden posts and railings. West Coast Deck was highly recommended. After reviewing Jameson Haslam's proposal, we selected West Coast deck for our project. Jameson and his crew did amazing work and we couldn't be more pleased! Jameson and his crew were consummate professionals. From their proposal, selection of new materials, construction and project completion, they kept us informed. The stair posts were each custom made and despite a minor fabrication delay, everything went well. We chose "Ipe" tropical hardwood, as our new decking surface and top rails. For the deck and stair posts, we selected white powder coated metal. Instead of going with the conventional cable railing we opted for solid #316 stainless steel rod, 3/8" in diameter. We're really pleased with the look of the white posts, Ipe top rail and stainless steel rod. Topping off the project is LED Lightning under the top rail. That provides a soft, warm glow to our deck at night. Our final product is gorgeous. If you are looking to construct a deck or just update your deck's surface material and it's looks we highly recommend Jameson Haslam and West Coast Deck. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. The owner seemed super nice at first, but took three months to come and finish the job he started, which was revamping our second floor deck. He and his workers were beyond sloppy (photos will show this), and all their work had to be redone by our contractor's team. In addition to sloppiness, the work was just unbelievably unsafe. Jameson did not have the proper gaskets to secure the glass to the rails, AND HE JUST LEFT IT LIKE THAT AND COLLECTED OUR $10,000!!! I then noticed another review that said he didn't have his license number up- so I checked on that and as of august 2023, there is no professional license associated with the owner Jameson. I found an old website that listed a different person's license number, so I looked him up and called him to complain about the unfinished and unsafe job. He was rude as well, but eventually finally came to finish the job that Jameson had started. Our contractor literally sat behind him and watched until it was done. All this is to say DO NOT under any circumstances use this sketchy, unsafe person. Words cannot do justice to how unsafe he left our house and when I confronted him about it via text, he tried to call me, so as not to leave any liability in writing. I have two young children who play on the deck who could have fallen right through the glass he neglected to secure and that makes my blood boil. read more

A couple of weeks ago I called multiple deck contractors most of whom I found on Yelp. While most of them never returned my call, West Coast Deck did. We scheduled an appointment for the rep (Jameson, I think) to come to our house to discuss our project. We had agreed to late Friday afternoon. On the afternoon of the appointment I receive a text that he was not going to be able to make it to the appointment and said we'd have to reschedule. On Wednesday the following week, after not getting contacted by him to reschedule, I texted him to do so. We agreed to meet late afternoon on Monday of the following week. This time he didn't even bother to text me that he couldn't make it, he just never showed up. A week has passed since then and I still haven't heard from him. Very unprofessional and inconsiderate of my time! I guess I should feel lucky that you ghosted me. If you are this unprofessional during the sales portion of the project it does not bode well for the execution of the project. Disaster averted I guess. read more

We hired Jameson Haslam, owner of West Coast Deck approximately one year ago to build a deck in our canyon backyard. It was a massive disaster. Jameson started the work digging huge holes in our backyard and cut into two retaining walls without obtaining a permit we thought we paid for. His workers stopped showing up, leaving us with a mess. Jameson's excuse was, " I got in over my skis". We later learned Jameson did not have a contractors license and was using someone else's license which is illegal. We asked Jameson to repair the retaining walls and he refused. We hired an attorney and reported him and West Coast Deck to the Contractors State License Board (CSLB). To this date, Jameson Haslam and/or West Coast Deck does not have a contractor's license, workman's comp insurance or any insurance. DO NOT USE WEST COAST DECK!!!! read more
