We have loved the trainings with Rob for our dog Sienna. We completed Obedience 1 and are midway through Obedience 2. Our dog was a rescue and we had her 2 months when we started training. We had Rob come over for a private at home training to really help us correct and train very specific behaviors we wanted to change for our two dogs. We've done regular obedience training with Petco before but its just not the same with at home training. With at home training, we were really able to address specific behaviors that'd be hard to replicate elsewhere. We loved our experience with Rob, he started training literally the moment he stepped into the house with our dog's jumping on guest behavior and we saw instantaneous change in behavior! Our little puppy likes to tug a lot on walks to get next to our other dog, and Rob asked if we were comfortable trying out a prong collar explaining to us the right way to wear and use without endangering our dog in any way. I was a little uneasy about the prong collar, but he assured me that when used properly its very safe and its meant to be a temporary training tool that we can eventually ease off of. SDPT was recommended by Helen Woodward so we gave them a call to first address the separation anxiety issues that our puppy was having. Rob showed up at our house and trained my husband and I on how to train our puppy. He gave us some great tips and soon after, our puppy wasn't making a mess when we left. And instead of being scared, he's just upset when we leave him alone now. We then took our pup to the 8 week basic obedience class held at Helen Woodward. The first week is meant for the owners only, but because our guy had separation anxiety, Rob told us to bring him and that he'd use him to demonstrate some of the things we'd be learning in class. The next 7 weeks we learned sit, down, stay, leave it, heel, and come. Even though the class size was larger (10-12 dogs), our pup was able to learn all of the commands and obeys them (when he's not too hyper...he's still a puppy). We really enjoyed the class (especially the play time at the end of each class) and liked that Rob would always ask how our pup's separation anxiety issues were going. He always gave us great tips after our session and answered any questions we had. We will likely enroll him in an agility class from SDPT when he's over a year old. read more

I have a Rottweiler puppy who was very nervous around other dogs. The way he would show his fear was to growl and show you every one of his teeth as he runs in the opposite direction. If you don't know Harley, you would think this was scary behavior, especially since he's a Rottweiler. Harley is the most lovable dog ever, he was just afraid. We have worked with Rob in a few classes as well as individual classes now and Harley is so much better with dogs! He no longer barks or shows his teeth and is now very playful with other dogs. He just needed someone to show him how. :-) I've read in another review that some were disappointed that there is 20-30 minutes of social time prior to Rob's classes. I would like to share an alternate perspective...this was truly great for us. First, it allowed us to help socialize Harley in a safe and controlled environment with friendly dogs. When it wasn't our turn, Harley was able to watch all of the other dogs play and interact with each other. For him, he was learning just as much being outside the fence as he was inside. Secondly, this allows the dogs to get all of their wiggles/zoomies out which allows them to focus and learn in class. It's like sending little kids out to recess so they can come back in and actually learn. Dogs are very much like children and don't have that long of an attention span. Between the physical and mental stimulation they receive in this hour, they're exhausted by the end. Lastly, Harley has also taken Rob's agility class. Mostly for the socialization aspect. Harley did not much care for all of the obstacles the first two classes, even when guiding him with high value treats. This was fine with me because we were there to interact with dogs and just have some fun. Rob was always very patient and helpful with guiding Harley or making the obstacle a little easier so that Harley would "have a win." But boy was I a proud mama when on the last day of class, Harley went through the fully extended tunnel AND walked across the dog walk bridge obstacle! Pretty cool! We brought out 14 mo old lab to San Diego Pet Training. We did the board and train for 13 days. Missed our girl bad but holy hell, what a difference. The first thing my husband said when we first walked her was "Who's dog is this?" We were so excited she never pulled once and she never pulled on the leash. WAIT, WHAT??? I'm so serious!
