Bryan Shook gave us an estimate of renovating our pond and putting in a filter. He had a capable assistant able to do the work but totally unreliable (never knew if he would show). we were assured it would be finished by the time of an Anniversary party. It took weeks more. we were told they would do good finishing work. They left the pond looking bad. we had to find paint and plants to distract from the negative appearance. We believe it was a time when the owner was possibly overwhelmed and had employee issues. It was not a satisfactory experience. read more

My wife and I came to find some waterlily plants for our pond. The outside landscape where they keep their fish and plants was beautiful and well-maintained. The inside section of the store was well-stocked with essentials for pond maintenance and care. What was most impressive was their selection of Koi and goldfish and how healthy everything looked! Equally impressive was the friendly and knowledgeable customer service we received from (i believe his nam was) Jacob. Unfortunately they were sold out of waterlily plants, but I can't fault them for that because it was off season. We ended up buying a different kind of plant because it was so beautiful and lush-looking. We also bought two goldfish, which we weren't expecting to do, but they looked so healthy and vibrant we couldn't resist. We will definitely be back. read more

I had a scheduled pond and filter clean. The gentleman was very nice, answered all my questions and did a fantastic job cleaning the pond! (The pond hours are charged separately from filter hours, no problem.) He spent about 4 hours cleaning the pond and it looked great when he was done. We started to fill it. He then started to clean the filter. We replaced all the media inside as it's been a long time. "Should" make the job a bit quicker. He got everything cleaned out, new media inside and it all put back together. Pond was about 1/2 full and the fish had no air so I asked to turn it back on. He said yes, in backwash mode. And my filter started leaking. He fixed it. (Tightened the pipe.) As he was about all packed up and ready to leave I ran my filter through it's 3 cycles waste, backwash, rinse and back to filter and it wouldn't filter. He spent another HOUR trying to diagnose it $$$ (mind you the pond "techs" and pond maintenance are different people). I appreciate the effort, but at $99 an hour I feel a tech should diagnose it not a maintenance tech. He even called the shop to help diagnose. The gal believed it to be the key handle via phone. ($187 part) After personally speaking to her about the situation she said it could be nothing else. So I sent my boyfriend up there to buy the part and pay the $400 pond clean fee and $200 filter clean out and additional $$ for chemicals and want not. Totaled almost $800. My boyfriend go to talking with the guy at the desk and they both said something doesn't add up. So the desk guy called a tech and handed the phone to my boyfriend, he went through what happened and the tech said it sounds like he put your filter back together WRONG. ‍ Whelp. The pond is up and running now after my boyfriend took apart the filter and put it back together properly. We could buy the key handle...but it's not needed. I would use them again for the pond clean out but I'll let a tech or my boyfriend do the filter. read more

My wife and I bought s home in Santaluz last year that included a 2,700 gallon goldfish pond. We had never had a fishpond and tried our best to combat the algae and feed the fish. We contacted San Diego Pond and Garden and Jason came out to assess our situation. He suggested a pump with twice the output, an ultraviolet light and biological filter. We had Jason come out and deep clean the pond. He treated the fish with respect. He retrofitted the system with upgraded pump, new biological filter and UV lamp. The pond looks new and functions great! Justin did a great job! We are completely satisfied with his work and suggestions on pond management. UPDATE: on 5/5/17 we had Jason back to address the reduced flow from our filter/pump system. He completely dismantled the filter and serviced it, cleaned out the pond of dying plants, and took our papyrus plants that had invasively clogged the pump intake. Everything is now working perfectly and truly grateful for Jason's professionalism! UPDATE: on 9/28/17, Matt came out and cleaned out a bunch of dead plants and a huge fern which weighed at least 140 lbs. He also cleaned out the two inlets to the pond. After a difficult year of service from San Diego Pond and Garden, I've decided to update my Yelp review because we have decided to hire another pond service company. Their customer service has been terrible. After the pond clean-out, we had maintenance once every two weeks during the summer season and once per month during the winter season. Also, shortly after the pond clean-out, the water never remained as clear as when it was cleaned out. It quickly clouded back up but the company insisted the cloudy water was a sign of a healthy pond. Per their instruction, we even purchased Algaecide from them and poured that into the pond once a week to help prevent the algae growth. I'm not a pond expert so I chose to believe the pond company we had hired. In addition to poor water clarity, their customer service was awful. It is bad when you need to call the company to ask for the invoices. I don't like paying hundreds of dollars in one month but I was forced to on occasion when the service company didn't send monthly invoices on time. I found myself constantly having to follow up with everything I needed from the company. The responses were also delayed if you needed service/maintenance. There was an incident where I needed service on the pond (re-drilling holes in our rainfall due to calcium build-up). Our pond maintenance was also due, so I asked the office staff if we could schedule a one-time visit where they could re-drill the holes and perform maintenance on the pond in order to avoid being charged two separate visits (kill two birds with one stone). The office staff said yes that would be fine. After a couple months, I called because I received an invoice with a charge for two separate visits. I called the office person I spoke with previously and learned she was no longer with the company. I then spoke with the owner, Steve, and informed him of the situation. Steve stated their service techs and maintenance techs are completely different. The maintenance techs don't have the tools for the service visits. Steve said he would honor what his office staff had communicated and charged me for the one visit which I was thankful for. However beware, if you need both maintenance & service on your pond, you will be charged for two separate visits! I don't understand why the service techs couldn't also perform maintenance; I can understand the other way around. There were a few instances I was home during the day when the company was performing maintenance on the pond and they didn't know I was home. They stayed no longer than 5 minutes to perform maintenance on the pond (not exaggerating)! In conclusion, expect poor customer service, being nickel and dimed, and delayed responses when you follow up for a service/maintenance request UNLESS you state that you are going with another pond company; they are quick to send you that last invoice. read more
