The boarding process was pretty simple and today was a great day to go out on the bay. Enjoy the view in spite of the fact that it's a little cold and windy. But the views that you get from this trip being one of the longest in the San Francisco Bay was worth it. The boat itself is very clean and it has plenty of room for people on board. There's a lot of empty seats around I imagine because it was a Sunday. But it was Mother's Day and I wanted to spend a special day on the bay with my girls. I would like to point out that the fees for writing this for your well worth it if you compare them to the prices of tours just in the immediate Bay Area around Fishermans wharf. Good value for your money. And they have a great little snack area on board where you can get snacks and soft drinks and so hot coffee. read more

Had a great time taking the ferry from Vallejo to the SF Ferry Building on a Saturday. The drop point at the SF Ferry Building is right next to the farmer's market. Either use a Clipper card or use the SF Ferry App or buy tickets on board after you get on. The Clipper card uses a tap on and tap off approach and it is really simple. The ferry is really made for commuters so there are tons of seats available for the weekends. Bathrooms are very clean and there is a concession stand as well. The ride is super smooth and takes about 50 minutes from Vallejo to SF. This is not a tour cruise, but a really good way to get across the bay. Wow...I wish I knew about this year's ago. About an hour each way with beautiful views of Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz. I could see Mt Tam. You can follow your progress on Google maps. That is how I found out that this beautiful island is actually a light house island. Ferry is clean. Easy tag on and tag off with Clipper which honors any clipper discounts. Very disappointing experience. The ticket inspector was extremely rude and unprofessional. After checking tickets, he repeatedly told people to "get away from me," which was unnecessary and disrespectful to paying customers. Public-facing staff should be courteous, and this interaction made the entire experience uncomfortable. Because of this behavior, I will not be using this service again. read more

Oct 2nd was Rider Appreciation Day on the SF Bay Ferry system and all ferries rides were free. Our group decided to make an outing on this day and planned a trip out to Vallejo since none of us have ventured there by ferry. We departed from Harbor Bay at 9am and arrived at the Ferry Building at 9:25am. We walked over the next gate for our 9:50 departure on the Vallejo ferry. This route is longest of the six routes connecting the east and west bay. During this one hour ride, you get a scenic ride and pass by Alcatraz, Angel Island and Red Rock Island get views of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Richmond/San Rafael Bridge and Carquinez Bridge. Coming into Vallejo, you see the former Mare Island Naval shipyard on the left before the ferry docks at the terminal at the foot of Georgia St. We took a walk along the waterfront path, which is part of the SF Bay Trail, past the Mare Island Causeway before returning and having lunch are Mare Island Brewery next to the ferry terminal. After lunch, we had time before our 1:55pm ferry, so we took a walk into Downtown. After the one hour ride, we hopped on our 3:40pm ferry back to Harbor Bay. It was a nice ferry day and thanks to Appreciation Day, we were able to make the venture out to Vallejo. A nice route that give you a scenic view of the Bay. read more

Honestly, the ferry is one of the safest, stress-free ways to get into the city. The boat is spacious and clean. They offer wifi as well as outlets to charge your devices (outlets on the older boat and outlets plus USB adapter on the newer). There are trays behind the seats so you can do work on your lappy or have a small meal. If you're feelin' famished there is a snack bar on the main deck that offers chips, candy, cookies, and drinks (cocktails on deck for those long stressful work days). Proof of vax card required to purchase food FYI. They also have clean restrooms at the back of the boat, which is an plus! Ridership is pretty regulated so there are no questionable people hanging around or on the boat compared to Bart. The tickets are a bit pricey; $11 one-way paper ticket or $9 one-way clipper. Luckily, I have commuter benefits so the cost is brought down a little bit. Boarding usually starts 10mins prior to departure and 90% of the time the boat sails on schedule. There's always announcements to confirm you're on the correct boat. The trip is 50mins-1hr one way, depending on the weather. You can catch some amazazing views on the ferry. Views of the sunrise/sunset, of the SF skyline and of both bridges (depending on what side you sit on). Mask are required at all times except for when eating/drinking of course. Most riders are quiet and keep to themselves. Riders are pretty spread out and you can get a row of seats to yourself. Towards the end of the voyage, people will start to line up at the door to get off once the boat docks. Overall, I feel safe riding the ferry. The crew members are friendly and helpful. 4 stars because yeah it is expensive and it will add up if you commute to work on it. However, It's way better than taking Bart, paying toll and putting mileage on your car and dealing with traffic. Be mindful when parking at the lots across from the Vallejo terminal. My car was a victim of a smash and grab in the parking garage. Make sure you park in a visible area and don't leave anything in your car! People with the older Prius' be wary... read more

This was first time taking the ferry into the city in YEARS! I forgot how smooth and hassle-free it is. It's definitely my preferred method of travel to SF as driving and finding places to park is such a hassle over there. The fares are a bit steep but if you get the Clipper card it gives you a discount on one-way fares. If you go to the city often, it can add up to significant savings. The workers at the ticket booth and on the ferry itself were friendly. Getting our tickets was quick and easy as there wasn't a lot of people traveling today. So I drive the 45 minutes from Sacramento after work, pay $8 for 24 hr parking across the street from the terminal with the app on my phone and board the ferry with an e-ticket for $9. I have taken the ferry twice from Vallejo to San Francisco with my kids. We really love it. If you buy paper tickets it's 11.00 or you can buy a clipper card for 3.00 and put money on it and the ride is then 9.00. At the ferry station they have magazines of things to do..a ticket counter and coffee shop. You can board the ferry about 10 minutes before departure. They open the gate and you Scan as you walk to the Ferry. It is huge. They have seating inside or outside on the devk. We always want the deck. The view is awesome..the smell of the water...wind in my hair..incredible. Plenty of seats inside that are comfy too if that's what you like. The ride is about an hour and it goes so fast...I love it. You see beautiful mountains...the bridges...Alcatraz ect. I highly recommend trying this...so much fun. read more

One of the best ways to get into San Francisco by far!!! Me and my fiancée don't like to drive thru san francisco for obvious reasons and prefer to use public transport thats there and while I know there are other ways to get into the city but, this is definitely the most scenic. We take the Vallejo-San Francisco line which is about a 1 hour ride and you get to see all the beauty of the San Pablo bay and even pass by angel island, alcatraz island, and a gorgeous view of the golden gate bridge as well a breathtaking views of buildings of San Francisco. It's definitely in my opinion its one of the most beautiful sceneries I've seen in my life it truly makes you feel small coming into the city from this way. Overall it is one of the best ways to get into San Francisco if you don't like to drive or want to avoid tolls, it's very affordable and is an experience in itself definitely a must try!!! read more

I'm convinced that will a little bit of planning, the ferry is the best way to commute into the City from Napa and Solano counties, and the best way for visitors to get from SFO or San Francisco up to Napa and beyond. The coffee bar at the Vallejo ferry building is a great place to get something before you get onto the boat so plan a few extra minutes to pick up a coffee or a snack. Pro-tip for travelers coming up from the City or the airport for a few days in Napa or the North Bay: There are a couple of shuttle services that take visitors up to Napa and you can get the local Enterprise agency to deliver a car to you at the Vallejo ferry building. read more

Prices have definitely changed throughout the years and now with the option to purchase your ticket through the mobile app allows for a " discounted" price ($9) compared to purchasing a paper ticket aboard the boat at $11.25, both prices are one way. Children under 5 ride free and they do have options for discounted tickets for people over the age of 65 or under 17 or those with Medicare cards or dmv parking placards. In my experience if you decide to purchase a paper ticket, the person selling the tickets will not be available until after the boat has taken off due to the person being part of the crew. Physical tickets cannot be purchase inside the Vallejo Ferry terminal. As far as accessibility goes there are uneven metal ramps that get you onto the boat- pictures included. They do have a larger accessible bathroom along with specific seating on the boat if you prefer. Although the flooring differs per boat they are often carpeted. Staff is the best part of the whole experience, if you ride often enough you will definitely see familiar faces. All crew is very kind and informative, especially bar staff! Food and drinks on board include canned sodas, bottled water, juice, coffee, packaged snacks like chips and cookies and various alcoholic choices all at fairly high prices. Bathrooms are well there if you need them- not all boats have paper towels but all have hand dryers. Overall a fun experience for visitors and a good way to commute for those not close to Bart. First time doing this and it was so fun! The new ferry app is only a week old but it's the easiest and cheapest way to buy your tickets ahead. $9 each way. You can park your car for an entire day for $8. Lots of seating- both indoor and outdoor. Bathrooms and WiFi. You can bring your dog if they are in an enclosed carrier. Lots of people had luggage and bikes. It takes an hour but honestly it flys by. Seems more like 30 minutes. Beautiful views of the Bay, Golden Gate, and Alcatraz. It drops you off at pier 41, which is a good 20 Minute walk from Pier 39. Bring good walking shoes. But it's such a nice way to get into the city without having to pay all the toll fees and crazy parking. They post the schedule online and stuck to it. As someone who is claustrophobic and doesn't even ride elevators, I was worried I would get anxious or feel too crowded. Not at all. Being able to see land all around me was quite relaxing. Only regret not doing is sooner. read more

I had no idea I was gonna take the Ferry on Saturday. What started a 4 year anniversary celebration was a convenient ferry ride. I love surprises. When my girl surprised me with a day trip in San Francisco, I was pumped. It's been awhile since we've been out there. What better way to get to the city though right? I used to go on BART all the time but it's just not the same anymore. It's not as safe. Some of stops are pretty sketch too...And then there is driving. Yea. We could drive but do we really want to deal with traffic? Then there is gas money...then there is money for parking...then there is your...sanity for parking...in the city. It's all too much man. With a ferry ride for $30 round trip, you skip all these other expenses out of convenience. On top of that you get to see some amazing sights of the Bay Area on the way. 1 star is for the parking lot! Beware you'll get your catalytic converter stolen. Vallejo police don't and haven't done crap to curb this theft. Ferry was an awesome ride and crew were great but I'm not sure there's a safe spot to park. My bosses wife's was stolen on a Saturday, ours the Sunday following and a friends the next weekend. Security even told my bosses wife to park closer to his building to keep an eye on it but yet still was stolen. Not sure if the security guard is in on the hustle? Parking can be found throughout the area for a few hours, however your best bet is to go to the garage across the street from the ferry station as it's a short distance from one another. I went ahead and bought the tickets and we boarded. The boat seating was clean and roomy. There are bathrooms available on the upper and lower levels. The crew is pretty friendly and the boat ride was relaxing. It was about an hour so I decided to buy some refreshments on the back of the boat where they had an array of coffee, teas, sodas, water as well as snacks and danish. We have been riding the ferries to San Francisco for over a year. As far as I am concerned it is the only way to visit San Francisco. The ferries are almost always on time. Using a Clipper Card eliminates the need to buy a ticket; that makes getting on a off the ferry easier. The San Francisco Bay Ferry website is easy to use and has all the information you need to ride the ferries. At first we drove to Jack London Square and boarded the ferry there. This worked well because there is ample parking and freeway access is not too difficult. Next we started using Capitol Corridor and San Joaquin trains. This greatly reduced the need to drive. Lately, we have driven to Vallejo and taken the ferry from there to San Francisco. Once in San Francisco there are a number of options to get around the city. We use the BMW+ means of transportation: Bus, Muni, Walking, plus Uber. One improvement that I would like to see is a Clipper Card tag-in tag-out for the parking lots. read more

When we visit SF from Napa, we absolutely love taking the ferry. Not only can we party with no worries about driving back, we don't have to deal with traffic, parking and all of the dangers of having a car in the city. Pluses: Cheap parking in Vallejo ($5 as of 1/2017). Not having to deal with SF traffic. Beer and wine available for purchase onboard (cash only). Comfortable seating. Free wifi. Lovely views of the bay, including Golden Gate and Alcatraz. The ferries don't smell like pee. Takes Clipper Card for discounted fares. Minuses: Sometimes sketchy parking in Vallejo. Ferries have mechanical issues and are sometimes replaced by buses. The winter weekend schedule is pathetic, only 3 ferries per day, plan accordingly. Can fill up easily during commuter times. Rude af people who don't use headphones when listening to music or watching videos on their mobile devices. All in all we love taking the ferry. Even with the lame weekend schedule we still prefer the ferry over Bart or driving into the city. It really is the the best way to get into the city. read more

My fiancé and I wanted to purchase tickets at the boat for Vallejo to SF like we've done MANY times over the years, but the workers gave us a lot of attitude and told us it's not their job to sell tickets on the boat and this option was never available. They said we were wasting their time but then told us "they guess they could give us tickets" if we gave them cash before getting on. We thought maybe the ferry rules changed about boat purchases so we gave them the money without fighting back, but their attitude was blatant and rude. There is no need to project your power hungry, angry hostility on paying customers! When we sat down, we watched other riders ALSO give cash and WITHOUT the attitude and judgement my fiancé and I got. I also checked ticket pricing online after we got on and they actually OVERCHARGED us. This is completely unprofessional and your company should check how cash transactions are done. When we got back to our car wr had two windows blown out. My brother had one and at least 9 other cars had windows broken. This all happened in the day time in front of a restaurant and next to the ferry entrance. Do not park anywhere near there. If you want to do the ferry I would Uber in. My boyfriend and I received an opportunity to go to San Francisco and attend the "Eat Drink SF" festival. But the thought of having to drive all the way there wasn't an exciting aspect. So my boyfriend came up with the great idea of driving to Vallejo, park the car and take the ferry the rest of the way. Our trip fell on a Sunday morning, so we did not experience the crowds of weekday commuters or lingering riff raff as some of the other reviewers did. When we arrived to the parking lot across from the terminal, it was only a short trek to the ticket building. After parking, you must pay to park at the vending machine. It does not take cash, only credit cards! Fortunately I brought a card for emergency purposes! It currently costs $5.00 to park and it will ask you to enter your car license number or VIN number to prove that you have paid. I was impressed with the exterior design of the ferry terminal. It seemed well kept and clean both outside and in. It is actually much larger than I expected, especially since buying your tickets at the manned ticket counter didn't take up a lot of space. I did not have time to explore the rest of the buildings which may have also contained a snack area and extra seating for waiting passengers. The line of people did not take long and moved forward pretty quickly. I was stressed that we may have arrived a bit late, but surprisingly everything ran smoothly from getting our tickets to boarding the ferry. All the employees were friendly and efficient. If you hate traffic and crowds like I do, it was well worth it for me to pay the $25 ticket and $5 parking fee for an overnight trip to San Francisco. Considering the stress of driving through the streets on a busy summer weekend and the $35 parking fee at my hotel located just across the street from the Ferry Building, it was a no brainer. The service is excellent and I love the fact that they have a snack bar serving chips, candy, beer, wine and my favorite, Kahlua and cream. It is always smooth sailing going back and forth between San Francisco and Alameda/Oakland. They also have a restroom facility, which is nice, too. Even though it cost more to ride the ferry to SF than riding BART, just remember that BART does not offer the amenities that the ferry boats have and it's more enjoyable when you're not sitting next to a person who has hygiene problems. This used to be THE way to attend a Giants game. Now, not so much. The new Ballpark Short Hop sucks. It used to be that you could take one ferry to and from the game. Now you have to disembark and wait (in our case, an hour!) for another boat to take us from pier 41, to Oracle Park; all of another ten minute ride. Pier 41 has drastically changed due to COVID. Many concessions are not open. Whoever came up with this idea is a clown. I am disabled and had a difficult time disembarking. As I staggered off with my cane a male employed had the audacity to loudly say,"Hurry up! You're holding up boarding!" To which I replied, " Thanks! I'm disabled and I'm doing the best that I can!" Just so you know, it it NEVER okay to talk that way to a disabled person. We are doing the best that we can! I'm thinking that even with the price of gas, driving might be the better option in the future to attend a Giants game. Sadly, the return trip was as bad. Hurry up and board.
