I've been to many earthquakes games over the last ten years. I also watch almost every game on tv. It's the local professional soccer team in the Bay Area. They are one of the original mls teams from the beginning in the 90s. Chris Wondolowski is the legendary local player. The stadium is open and modern with food trucks, open air bar and a great atmosphere. The fans are passionate and make the environment fun. It's a family friendly environment. Tickets are reasonable for sports games. The reason I give 3 stars is because the owners and management have turned this team into one of the worst in the league. The owners refuse to keep up with investment in players like other teams. It makes being a supportive fan very difficult. The good news is that they recently fired the awful general manager and things will hopefully improve. read more

Over that time, the Quakes have qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs nine times and won two of them (2001 and 2003). I never Jose the MLS life. The MLS life Jose me. Not to be confused with the little earthquakes I give Barbie nightly. The San Jose Earthquakes are one of the classic old teams of MLS and one of the great things about this is that they get support from the entire San Francisco Bay Area because they're the only MLS team in the bay. So that makes them a very highly supported team. They got stolen away by Houston for a while but now they're back and it's a great thing believe me. I live in Houston and it's slightly hard to root for the Dynamo considering they were stolen from SJ, but I still do. I'll always remember the days of Landon Donovan with his bright bleach blonde hair single-handedly winning titles in games for them. Things have changed since then but the heart and the spirit is still here. San Jose play in an awesome little soccer specific stadium that was opened a few years ago. It does the job really well and everybody likes it. On its day it can be one of the most intense and atmospheric stadiums in the country, and is still pretty good and can create a pretty intense atmosphere if they're playing for important stuff. It's got amazing steep seating and was financed 100% privately by the awesome Lewis Wolff. No city money went into it and he's financing it for 55 years out of his pocket, too. It houses less than 20k people but is one of the best and intense stadiums and is close to the centre of SJ. read more

I went to my first soccer game last week. Instead of playing at Avaya, the San Jose Earthquakes played at Stanford Stadium. We went to the game vs Los Angeles Galaxy on Saturday, June 30th at 6:45pm. Honestly, don't know much about soccer (or football to the rest of the world). I had the roommate give me a quick brief as he played soccer when he was younger, so I was able to follow along. Though I did wish we watched the game at Avaya as Stanford Stadium did not have any alcohol. (I needed something to quench my thirst.) For this game, they gave the first 10,000 fans a free cap, which was a nice perk. If this had been a day game, the hat would have come in handy. Been season ticket holders for three years now. Love the soccer, but was disrespected tonight by someone who said they were the Director of SeasonTicket Holder Relations or something of the sort. This person, short in statue, but cutting in nasty response, was about as diplomatic as a sledge hammer at a baptism. She neither listened or contributed to any possible solution, even though it was her staff who charged my credit card without authorization. I will be reaching out to the senior management for relief and requesting her reprimand as a I suspect this was not the first time she has stepped WAY OUT OF HER LANE. My rep can clearly expect a call from me and might be losing a customer cause his, not so diplomatic, manager lost him a sale!!!! read more

The Quakes are on their way to Denver tonight to play in the conference championships. What a great 2010 season! Season tickets cost $240-800 (extra for VIP) . I have two seats on the halfway line, parking for every game (17), access to playoff tickets, 20% off merchandise, and an end of season party with all the players. Ticket prices are the same for 2011 and there will be19 games after the league expansion. This simply has to be the best value for your sporting dollar in the Bay Area. Sure the ground is 'cozy' but you'll make friends with your neighbors very quickly. read more

What a nice little gem for watching soccer. There isn't a bad seat in the house. Seats 18,000. 16 VIP suites. The stadium features a canopy roof and the steepest-raked seating in Major League Soccer to provide a better view. Other features: - A 3,650-square-foot bar situated under the scoreboard -- the largest outdoor bar in North America. And I, the soccer fanatic, was there to witness it. I wasn't even going to the game in the morning that day until my friend decided to give me a ticket. Of course! Then the Caltrain was 5 minutes late arriving at Santa Clara but thanks for VTA buses lining up waiting for thousands of people wearing blue. Kickoff was at 7:30pm where the sun is just about to get set. This is also one of the rare occasions to stand for both the Canadian and the U.S. national anthems in a MLS game. After a few $18 drafts, the ref blew his whistle and game started! After Quincy's goal gave us a 1-0 lead. Ref got excited all the sudden. 2 red cards to us in between Toronto's lucky goal. Now it's 1-1 and Quakes are down to 9 men walking on a tight rope. Die hard defending was instructed by Coach Kinnear (well he played for Sp*rs and I am an Arsenal fan, that's another story). 70th minute. Toronto lost the ball and we countered. Simon Dawkins dribbled on the left flank and cut inside, similar to my FIFA 16 move. Then just like R2 (finesse shot) + Circle (Shoot) on my controller, he stroke it but Toronto's keeper misjudged it. Holy moly we scored with only 9 men. And we held off for a famous win, which we couldn't win since May playing with 11 men. Moreover, it's first time in 12 years that a MLS team scored and win with only 9 men. And first time in 4 years that a 9-men team won a league game. But well, we need more consistency. Can't afford heart attacks week in week out. read more

I have wanted to go to a Major League Soccer event for a long time. I just moved to San Jose and I was so excited there was a MLS team here. I went to the SJ v. NYC game last Saturday and it was so much fun. I had such a great time. I know there is a bias against soccer in the US. I've heard a number of people say that it's boring and low-scoring. Well, the low-scoring part is true, but I think it's incredibly exciting. The benefits of soccer is that it's always moving. The ball is always in motion and play moves from one side of the field to the other very quickly. It's very thrilling because the pace of the game can change at any moment. It also can be very violent. On Saturday, there were a number of guys knocked to the ground for several seconds after sliding or flipping over the ball. There are a number of penalties, but the ball goes back into play fairly quickly. There were two yellow cards on Saturday, also. The matches are also fairly short. It's two 45 minute halves with a half-time of about 20 minutes. I think it's the most exciting 2 hours you can have. The game on Saturday was a big one and was at Stanford Stadium. I'm excited to go to a game at the Santa Clara stadium. The Stanford Stadium was really fun and there was a nice fireworks show afterwards. I can't wait to go to another game! read more

I had no idea there were so many soccer fans in the Bay Area! A little weird that the team is playing in a college soccer stadium with pop-up bleachers for half the fans, but understandable since their fancy new stadium is under construction. One section of European-style fans singing songs, chanting, and leading cheers for the rest of us. The concession options are pretty poor since this is not a dedicated stadium, and the porta-potties are pretty ghetto for a professional sporting event; hopefully both will be fixed in the new stadium. MLS is quietly gaining support from all ages and backgrounds, especially with TV viewership and a new stadium. The team has been around since 1974 in several incarnations, but their unique name has kept things shaking in the South Bay. The 2015 season has been successful for the team. I am rather new to the MLS and really do not have any favorites at this time, but they have some good players which is entertaining. My local Sacramento Republic FC is affiliated with the Earthquakes, but I am usually more interested with the Republic. However, after an exciting game, I can really appreciate the higher level of game play and action. Bringing the family to a professional sporting event has really turned into an expensive activity, but anyone interested in soccer should plan an outing here. read more

This was my first professional soccer game I've been to. The games are actually rather entertaining, despite being a seasonal soccer fan (World cup anyone?). The hard-core fan section have guys who chant the ENTIRE GAME. You think they would sober up by half-time, but they just keep on going! It keeps things interesting, though it is hard to sustain a good cheer with the stadium. The Santa Clara soccer stadium is actually pretty nice and easy to view the field from all the seats. Food at the games is good too. We enjoy the Korean bbq taco truck, and there is Corona and even Gordon Biersch available for drinks. Unfortunately, our team is NOT strong this year and can sometimes be painful to watch, but gotta stick by your team! read more

I started following soccer during the 2006 World Cup and have been addicted ever since. I like watching games in English, so it's hard to find any games with my basic cable status outside of the World Cup or Euro Cup. So, I was anxious when my husband told me he got tickets to a SJ Earthquakes game. I had never BEEN to a professional soccer game. I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. The game was fun to watch and very entertaining. Just as much drama as a regular old World Cup game, minus the celebrities. I really had a lot of fun. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5? Too many kids and too many food vendors. It's like there was every little league soccer player and their families were there. Honestly, I'm a teacher and I don't want to see that concentration of kids outside of work. Plus, the dads were teaching their kids these snarky comments to shout out the the opposing team. I may be a bit of a prude, but it bothers me to hear a 4 year old shout, "Go suck it!" to the opposing soccer team. Maybe it's just me? Plus, there's ice cream and cracker jack and churro vendors walking in front of us like every 30 seconds. Give it a rest! Isn't this country obese enough as it is that we can't take an hour break from eating? Jesus! They are so skilled and schooled Chivas when we saw them. The players both on the bench and on the field were professional and played well. While the game we saw was low scoring it was exciting. Low scoring games can change on a dime. Fortunately SJ won. The announcers, the rowdy section, the players, the fans and the team management all do a great job to provide a fun atmosphere. Professional soccer is a sport growing in popularity and a great way to spend an afternoon or evening. I will be back. read more

I'm not a soccer fan at all. On my bay area vacation, I was excited to visit the two baseball teams and to a lesser extent, my first MLS game. My expectations were beyond exceeded. Our seats were fairly inexpensive (close, not far off center, and about $30 a ticket) and the environment was second to none. They currently play in a college stadium so I imagine it will only get better when they move into their permanent home next year. On one end was the typical soccer support section, with perhaps 40 people singing and playing drums. Cool. But then, the opposite section with likely over 100 people took off their jackets and were all wearing the same shirts. They unveiled their banner and went absolutely nuts. The two competing sections were as entertaining as the game. The soccer was fast-paced. Soccer is great because there are no time outs and no TV breaks. Plus, it was almost exactly the two hours we had predicted. Finally, the earthquakes won! Check out this team or any MLS game. I was pleasantly surprised. read more

If you are into soccer this is the place to be in the Bay Area. It's so much fun...there are bouncy houses for the kids and free stuff and friendly staff. The price is right (cannot think of too many other sports that have this ticket price) and it really does feel like a community. They do a lot for the kids in the area. That being said, I just couldn't get into it. I've made it a point (since the sadness of returning from my TRUE home...NYC) to get into the local sports in SJ and spend time supporting local things. A great place to enjoy with family or friends! As a person who is not really into sporting events, I had so much fun. The venue is great, clean, and being so small you can be sitting in the very back and still see the field well. It probably helps that the earthquakes won while I visited. They have a great lawn area for a picnic, food trucks, clean bathrooms, and games for kids to enjoy. The largest outdoor bar in North America is also a great perk! The Earthquakes are going in no direction at all. It's a shame. A few years ago they built a competitive team and the near future look bright but it took only few months for the team manager to destroy the team. I do enjoy watching the games once in a while but the last year the team reminded me of the Golden State Warriors from the 90's. I hope the team owner realizes that watching this team has become boring and the fans won't attend the games unless he starts building a serious team. I hope Dominic Kinnear has the capability to start rebuilding this team after such a disappointing season. Well my experience with the Earthquakes has been disheartening because the lack of decent players has impacted the quality of the games; that's being said I am not planning to come back to attend any game until the manager improves the roster and becomes serious about competing in the premier league. read more

Can't drink a beer on the stands, what the heck!, sure takes the fun of conversation and laughs, fun at the stadium unlike other stadiums like Giants or A's. The team is out of Playoff this year, I go to all there games, and just twice did they all try to win, you can see the fear and no spirit in these current roster of players that is why they just traded three players. I'm all about S.Bay local anything, and this establishment will definitely invest in some seats for my husband. His company hosted an day out for us. Of course more on the economical side, our dinner was out on the grass before entering the Stadium and our seats in the nosebleed section. Which at the top there are like patio seats and another bar. Once inside was pretty impressed. There are group areas inside for your corporate/private functions with your seats literally on the sidelines, private catering and bar. Multiple food stalls and ten food trucks are your eating options. Games and play area for the kids. Some super long bar to get your drink, networking, flirt on... or just lug that super sized beer up to your seat like the rest of us mid aged married folks and plant it with the munchies:) Of course some items are pricey, especially merchandise. Parking, the more you pay the more convenient your trek afterwards to the car. If don't mind a small hike $20 is not bad. If want to take UBER, there is a UBER drop off stand across the street from the stadium for you to be dropped off or picked up. Oddly a couple of the catering staff for our dinner got a bit miffed because we opened a bottle of relish for our hot dogs. I just put my plate down on a nearby cart of theirs that was just sitting there nothing on it, so could free my hands to get the seal off the Heinz bottle of relish, as well another coworker so we could get it on the hot dog and properly replaced it to the table and took food to our seats. This seemed to be abhorrent, unbelievable by a couple of the catering staff rolling their eyes at us like we were committing a crime. I said, "Well ya' need to unseal the condiments or we have to do it if we want the condiment on the hot dog. It does not come out so easily otherwise!" Ayee. San Jose Earthquakes kids program for comp. Spent over 10 years. Un happy coaches and no progress to academy. MLS Image and no content. Unorganized and no path for players development and growth. Very disappointed parent. I'm coach myself and expected quality training and standard. Most coaches left specially girls. So save your money and your time !!! No connection kids program and Earthquakes academy program. Didn't see any kids move from comp to academy. Didn't see path or lead to progress to academy the program that leads to no where ? Was much better when league was under Central Valley. As far as the Avaya experience very good viewing and attended games much better than Levi's stadium for soccer experience. As for MLS Games wish Earthquakes bring players such as ex premier players and that would get some funs exited. If not jus boring !! read more

I went to my first MLS game watching the Quakes vs the Colorado Rapids. It was a good time. I would do this again. The Earthquakes play at Santa Clara Univ. Nice campus with a smallish soccer stadium. The team makes the most of it and the crowd was near capacity. Parking isn't cheap ($10-$15) and neither are tickets to sit on bleacher seats. But you're close to the action and there's some pre-game fan-friendly tents to keep kids and fans occupied. The games sell beer, which is always a good thing. Programs are free and getting around the stadium isn't much of a problem. The stadium offers a bit of a view of the hills in the background. The team is good, as evidenced by the banner noting MLS Championships in 2001 and 2003. The game experience is a good one. Fans stomp on the metal bleachers during corner kicks. A rowdy section yells and waves flags at one end of the stadium. The halftime entertainment is low-budget but effective. The fans are cool. Dedicated to the team and good natured. Some even tailgate before the game. The team is building a new stadium due to open in 2014 and they deserve it. If you like soccer, you should definitely check out a game...The Quakes are good ! It got cold as the evening progressed so be prepared to dress warmly when needed. read more
