I went to my first Giants Game in San Jose location today. The team was playing against Stockton. I had a ribs dinner while I watch the game starting. The San Jose Giants is the minor league team, for the San Francisco Giants Baseball team. Their stadium is a much smaller venue, next to San Jose State University and San Jose Sharks ice hockey stadium. Because they are a closer location, one hour /not over two hour drive by car: it is easier to visit. Plus, our local recreation centers hire a bus, to drive us: they pay the $20 parking cost too!!! We pay about $25 a ticket. Clear bag entrance rules, unless you are carrying medication. FYI!!! Very hot 93degree hot sunny weather in Summer, so bring a hat. We moved to the minimum sheltered seats. Most seats are metal and get HOT, lol! Fun times, night games are great too! Pricey basic food, at least for old timers like me. Post pandemic food costs are up, quality and portions are less. I've been attending San Jose Giants games for over 10 years now.  While I do enjoy major league baseball, the tickets have become very expensive, especially for peak weekend games.  Minor league baseball, and specifically the San Jose Giants, provide a less costly, but still fun, time at the ballpark. Since I don't live in San Jose, I drive to games.  There is a small parking lot right across the street, but there are limited spaces and the attendant only takes cash.  But it's very quick to get out of the area after the game.  Alternatively, there is a parking garage a block away, and you can pay with a credit card (either at the machine or on an app).  On busy games, it can be difficult to get out of the garage, though. For most games, tickets are available for purchase at the stadium box office, though they do occasionally sell out (mostly when major league players are on rehabilitation assignments or for a very popular promotion).  But always check on the team website and social media channels; they are often discounted tickets or BOGO deals available. Once you are inside, I recommend grabbing food right away.  The meal selections are not as robust versus a larger ballpark, but the choices here are solid.  The most popular food stand is Turkey Mike's BBQ (located in the left field corner).  Just follow the signs and the smells of smoked meat.  I usually get the pork ribs meal.  And of course, you need a churro as a sweet treat after lunch/dinner.  Those are sold in the stand nearby Turkey Mike's, but this is cash only.  The churros are freshly made, and there are often long lines on the busy days.  There are also plenty of beer stands along the concourse (for those of you who celebrate).  Each game, one of the opposing batters is designated as the "Beer Batter;" if that person strikes out, one of the beer stands offers half off prices for 15 minutes.  You'll know when the Beer Batter strikes out, as this will be the loudest cheer during the game. The game itself is always fun, and since this ballpark is pretty small, all the seats come with a good view.  I do recommend getting seats on the first base side, which is both for the home team and also the shady side of the park on hot summer games.  In between innings, there have entertain interactive games on the field, usually with kids involved.  And there's something going on every game, either a ticket promotion (mostly mid-week games), or fireworks or kids run-on-the-bases (weekends). read more

I had time to kill before my flight. So, I looked up the time for the San Jose Giants baseball store, which was 10 am - 4pm. I parked in the back of the stadium, facing towards the street. You'll see an empty parking booth when you enter the parking lot. As I exited my vehicle, I started walking towards the front of the ballpark. When I arrived, I noticed the gate open. So, I entered it, but I could not locate anything that looked like a store. I kept walking around, taking photos. Finally, this admin guy pops out of nowhere. Their store is on the left side, about even with third base. Within a few minutes, a lovely young lady came and opened the store. She turned the store's heat on since it was chilly that afternoon. I mentioned my friend's love for hats. She was awesome and offered some chitchat about the team and all of the items. Most importantly, she looked up the online prices to ensure they matched the prices at their store since it was the holiday season, which had several ongoing sales. Heck, I was unaware, and she could have not even bothered, and I wouldn't have known. If anyone is reading this review from the San Jose Giants, THANK YOU! Keep in mind that Minor League Team stores are open during the off-season. If possible, check out their website and call before arriving at the ballpark. I love the SJ Giants! Today my daughter and I spent a very warm Wednesday afternoon watching the team defeat Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. We had the only shaded seats in the house and we were grateful. We also took a little walk to the parking lot behind Kelly Park for $6 parking. Coupled with tickets that were heavily discounted, we spent $21 for 4 hours of entertainment. What a win! Afterward, we walked through the Japanese Friendship Garden and back to our car, completing our SJ adventure. If you go to Municipal Stadium, buy a Churro, bring a water bottle to refill, and a clear bag. Have fun! read more

Super fun summer nights! Beware it is hot, hot, hot. It cooled down nicely around 7:30p and is very pleasant. It can be challenging to follow the game due to poor sound system and lack of televisions throughout the ballpark. I love that they have picnic benches by the bbq. It's comfy but you'll miss all of the games. The seats are not particularly comfy or easy to get in & out. It's def for the ambiance of bbq, sticky fingers, & those damn good churros. My kids are always down for a game with the many goodies inclusive of bounce houses, slime, & fireworks. Supposedly head security Isom is very rude and over aggressive. I tried to enter with a sealed Powerade as I also have brought them for years without any hassles, today 9/11/25 Isom decided he wanted to harass me and try to scare me by raising his voice and stepping in my face, he told me I could walk it back to the car or tag it and get it after. That's a joke this is a single A park, you can bring dang near anything into the mlb stadium in sf or even the other stadium in Sacramento. If you're a baseball fan and in San Jose...attending a SJ GIANTS game is a MUST! The nostalgia alone makes it a 5 star experience for me. I went fairly often as a kid (always free tickets at the supermarket and drug store!) so it's pretty cool how life has gone full circle and I now take my son to the games! No bad seat in the house. Bleachers are open seating! For day games, you are in direct sunlight though...so be sure to check the weather. It can get insanely hot in July/August. How kid friendly these games are is amazing. It's a perfect activity to take out a group. I'm telling you - it's way easier to drive down Senter and the 87 then it is going to Oakland or taking Caltrain to SF. Parking is easy...multiple cash lots OR you can even park in the residential neighborhood around the area and walk in. Food at sporting events is always an arm and a leg but prices here are very reasonable. I think many of us are used to be charging ridiculous amounts at Levis and Chase Center...I also liked the variety although lines can get very long. My son likes the garlic fries and churros! Wow. This was the worst entertainment experience of my life. We got there right around 7 pm, when the game was scheduled to start. There was a ginormous line of people waiting to get in because they only had 3 metal detectors for the entire stadium. The place has a capacity of 4200 so thank God it was only about 70% sold out. Of course, that's on us. Lesson learned and if there were to be a next time (there will not) we'll get there earlier. We ended up missing the first inning, but whatever (again, our bad). We went to our seats so I could get my wife and daughter situated and then I headed off to the concessions stand. When I got there, the line was super long but I figured it must go reasonably fast. So I waited... and waited... and waited... and the line seemed to barely move after 10 minutes. That was when I noticed that the concessions area (the Taco Stand near Section G) was staffed with a total of 6 people: 2 on the cash register, 3 doing food prep/cooking, and one person solely in charge of the "Beer Only" line. I was in line for almost an hour and missed about 3 innings of the game. I watched as this poorly trained and non-managed crew of 6 employees walked around without any sense of urgency or care. The line of people waiting for food, on average, was anywhere from 40 - 60 people deep. Finally, I found myself at a cashier to order food. I paid about $30.00 for one hot dog, a bottle of water and french fries. I have uploaded a photo of the french fries. They were $14.00. Why? Because they only had Carne Asada fries - which my 5 year old daughter would not eat - and they had no ability to charge me for regular fries. By the time I got back to my family with the food, it was the top of the 5th inning. This place is so poorly managed it is shameful. We used to go here all the time pre-COVID and it was a real gem. This once-great venue has become a poorly managed shadow of its former self. Not sure who is running it now but whomever it is should be ashamed of themselves for destroying this once amazing venue. And BTW, sorry, no excuses. Don't blame COVID or staff shortages or whatever. What we experienced tonight was uniquely a piss-poor experience. If other businesses in the Bay Area can adapt, this establishment should be able to as well. The management needs a complete overhaul, with competent personnel who can effectively run a ball club. read more

We started going to see San Jose Giants in 1992. We immediately fell in love with Minor League Baseball and, since my wife is a major SF Giants fan, the San Jose Giants were a perfect match. Price is a factor. Season Tickets behind home plate cost less than a half a dozen games up north in the major league park. There is a new team every season as the players move from A Ball to AA Ball or, as happens to many players, drop out of professional baseball. It is fun to try to identify which players will make it all the way to the Show. The players are accessible. Over the years we have sat and talked with future major league players. One memorable evening we were in the stands talking with a top pitching prospect just hours before he was traded to an east coast team where he became one of their best starting pitchers. Ballpark food is ballpark food. Quality changes from year to year as the food suppliers change. Scott's Seafood is very good. In 2019, the polish sausage is good. Thanks to the California League decree banning outside food, we have discovered several very good restaurants and sandwich shops near the ballpark that are less expensive than ballpark food. We eat at one of these places before the game then get one of the best churros you have ever enjoyed from the Churro Man. I cannot write a review of San Jose Giants without mentioning the very best mascot in baseball, Gigante! If you are a baseball fan go see San Jose Giants. Came by for a baseball game the other night and it was super easy compared to the SF Giants. Tickets were free (from Orchard Supply Hardware?) and on-site parking was $10 cash only. Plenty of free street parking with a 10 minute walk back to the residential neighborhood! There was a rather simple security check and the staff and crowd were all civilized. I made a mistake and selected the wrong seats using the online seat selector. Was trying for aisle, but because it's tough going through life as a brain donor, I selected the opposite of aisle seat, right up against the cement wall for the tunnel. This Single A minor league affiliate plays at Memorial Stadium near Happy Hollow in San Jose. Parking can be tight, but attendance is pretty light unless a big name is playing in rehab. This is a classic baseball experience. The stadium is old in a good way with billboards and fan experiences right out of Bull Durham. They have upgraded the concessions and beer over the years while keeping a fun experience. Plus you can snag some San Jose Giants apparel that will get a lot of confused looks. Weather is nearly perfect for baseball with much better conditions than San Francisco. Play is much worse than the majors, but it's fun to watch the kids make their way though the league. Plus, it's always fun to see baseball in person. If you want to see Ports, Nuts, and the rest of the California League boys of summer play future Giants, this is the spot. San Jose Giants games are always a great time. I have never had to pay for tickets to these games since you can generally find free tickets at Orchards or Costco. But, if you have to pay, they won't cost you an arm and a leg. No matter what seats you get, there are no bad seats. The opposing team has one player designated as the batter and when he strikes out, then all beers are 1/2 price off (limit 2) for the next inning. Lots of opportunities to get free tickets for Senior Games and other specials. When we were there, we got free tickets from Kaiser! And we appreciate that. There many hundreds of little kids at the San Jose Giants game. I presume they got discounts or free tickets. Anyway the little kids were a hoot. Sun vs shade: 95% of seats during daytime games are in the sun. A lot of folks are OK with the sun, but some of us deplore the sun, including those with skin cancer and elderly folks. The SJ Giant Excite Stadium only has about 3 or 4 rows way up on top with shade. They should extend that to cover more rows. Food vendors were OK and a disappointment. The pizza vendor was not open even though there were many hundreds of kids in attendance. Also the Mexican taco vendor was not open! The best food vendor was the bq place behind third base. It seems they make up their money by charging $15 for parking. I was not overly happy about that. Safety is important. Attendees do get hit by foul balls now and again. It is not frequent, but foul balls can cause serious injury. I recommend that SJ Giants at Excite Ballpark put up safety netting all around the park. Even behind homeplate, the current netting is not all the way to the top. read more

This place is AMAZING!! This was our first visit here, thanks to my friend giving us the inside scoop our kids were able to participate in the potato sack race they had at the end of the 8th inning. They both received a game ball thanks to one of the players of The Quakes and a in and out gift card!! They were beyond excited to participate and receive the ball!!! Hilarious and brilliant!!! Tonight, the player #41 cooperated. Parking is $7 but if you get there early enough I bet you can find a descent street parking spot. Either way admission and food is cheap enough that we didn't mind paying the $7 for parking. 3.5 stars if I could. Well, when I was younger, I - at different times - had season tickets here and briefly worked here. Then I moved and only recently came back for a visit. Pros: - Most of my experience was great. I got free tickets from their Tuesday "Merchant Night" promotion, so that was a definite plus. - While I did not bring kids myself, some in my party did, so the FREE kids area was awesome for them. - I bought a root beer (no food) at one of the outside stands. I paid for it, then walked away without getting the actual drink (absent minded, right?). The guy that worked there (I think his name was Miguel) tracked me down a few minutes later and brought it to me (I had totally not even realized I had forgotten it). - Between inning entertainment is fun. Neutrals: - Some food and drink prices are pretty expensive even by ballpark standards, but a few items are actually fairly reasonable. Cons: - Turkey Mike's BBQ was much more crowded and not as tasty as I remember it. - Maybe it's because it was a Tuesday night, but the overall atmosphere was pretty unenthusiastic. If you want to have fun, go to a SJ Giants game! The announcers are super playful and the mascot never loses his spirit. The crowd is awesome and there are usually free tickets at Costco. The garlic fries are MMmMmMmmMmmmmm.... It's so convenient and surprisingly a lot of people actually attend the games. The baseball players are cute and they work hard. There's a lot of activities for the kids too. I don't have any myself but if I were a kid I would have a blast here! read more

Watching the SJ Giants play the Modesto Nuts is a fun family event. Because the SJ Giants is a feeder team for the SF Giants, I see the whole operation as a training facility whereby players are being trained on how to be good players and fans are being trained on how to be good fans. If you're concerned whether your child can sit through 9 innings of baseball, have no fear, there's plenty to occupy them and I saw a lot of families leave before the 9 innings were up. Throughout the game and between innings, there are comedic family fun activities like "Smash for Cash" where pre-chosen contestants try to smash the headlights of the sponsors' vehicle by throwing a baseball at it, "Run with Gigante" (the team's mascot pronounced He Gone Tay) where the kids race around the bases, "Golf Chipping", "Money Ball" where contestants race down the 3rd base line in an inflated plastic ball. Winner of "Baseball Bingo" gets tickets to the Winchester Mystery House. At the beginning of one of the earlier innings, three kids are chosen to introduce the batters as they come up to bat. At the 7th inning stretch, a local Little League team sings Take Me Out to the Ball Game. When we sing God Bless America are women suppose to remove their ball cap like the men? "Guess the Pet" - pictures of common household pets are shown to an under 10 year old contestant. If they guess 3 pets in 30 seconds, then they win a prize. "Sing Along with Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline" is fun for us oldies. "Musical Chairs" was played with big inflated chairs. And let's not forget the "Kissing Cam". If you see yourself and your partner on the big screen, you're suppose to kiss in front of the camera. Ironically, you can't see yourself kissing, if you're kissing. For dinner, we ate at Turkey Mike's which was ok. See my review. However, there are plenty of other dining options. BIG CAVEAT: Although there are nets everywhere, they do not catch every foul ball and attendees must be aware at all times. Throughout the evening, I saw some Close Encounters of the dangerous kind. A San Jose Giants game is probably the best entertainment deal in San Jose. There are couple of games that you can find free tickets to just simply by going into Kragen or any of their bigger sponsors. Even without free tickets, you can get a ticket for $5 bucks, park for $7 and have a good time. It's Minor League Baseball, so it's going to feel Small Town USA-esque. It's not as glamorous as the A's and especially the SF Giants, but in my eyes, baseball is baseball and it's still good quality ball. The beer batter is a godsend. For those not in the know, the opposing team's batter with the lowest batting average is picked as the beer batter. If he strikes out, beer is half off for the next 15 minutes. Double fisting is my advice to you when this occurs. I'd try to get a spot in behind the plate as the right field bleachers are Bob Uecker views and you'll have a lovely view of the hand rails. The food is great here, but tailgating is always much better in my opinion. read more
