They are one of the original mls teams from the beginning in the 90s. Chris Wondolowski is the legendary local player. The stadium is open and modern with food trucks, open air bar and a great atmosphere. The fans are passionate and make the environment fun. It's a family friendly environment. Tickets are reasonable for sports games. The reason I give 3 stars is because the owners and management have turned this team into one of the worst in the league. The owners refuse to keep up with investment in players like other teams. It makes being a supportive fan very difficult. The good news is that they recently fired the awful general manager and things will hopefully improve.

Over…read morethat time, the Quakes have qualified for the MLS Cup Playoffs nine times and won two of them (2001 and 2003). In addition to those two championships, the team was very successful in the early 2000s, making the playoffs five straight years from 2001 to 2005. Probably the most well-known person to play for the Quakes is retired American soccer star Landon Donovan. The MLS MVP award is named after him after all. Donovan won a record six MLS Cups during his playing career. He was a member of both the 2001 and 2003 San Jose championship teams. While he was the team's top goalscorer in 2003 (12 goals), Salvadoran striker Ronald Cerritos was actually the team's top scorer in 2001 (11 goals). In 2001, Quakes coach Frank Yallop was named MLS Coach of the Year and players Jeff Agoos and Troy Dayak won the Defender of the Year and Comeback Player of the Year awards, respectively. In 2003, Quakes goalkeeper Pat Onstad was the league's Goalkeeper of the Year. Due to a combination of stadium, ownership, trademark, and other related issues, the San Jose Earthquakes were inactive for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. The team really hasn't been the same since, failing to qualify for the playoffs most years. Over the past decade, San Jose has routinely finished sixth or worst in the Western Conference. On the bright side, the Earthquakes are one of only a handful of MLS teams to win the MLS Cup multiple times. They've also won the Supporters' Shield twice for having the best regular season record in 2005 and 2012. San Jose is currently led by All-Star veteran forward Chris Wondolowski whose present stint with the team began in 2009. Wondolowski led the league in scoring two times (2010, 2012) and was MVP in 2012. He is, by far, the franchise's all-time leader in games played and goals scored. His records would be even greater if his stats from his time with the Houston Dynamo (2006-2009) somehow counted, but that is another story.

The campus is always well manicured and pristine. In fact, you won't see any liter around, pretty impressive. The scoreboards feature clear, easy-to-read digital screen. As an alum, I may be a bit biased, but I genuinely love this stadium and the scale makes of large enough to host a big event but not provoke an overwhelming cold vibe. Parking is abundant at the garage structure or nearby lots for a fee.

If you're a Quakes fan, you'll definitely want to make sure you go for some games here before the team leaves. The best thing about playing at Buck Shaw is the intimacy - you feel like you're right down there with the players. Because it's a college stadium - and not a massive sports arena that seats tens of thousands and doubles as a concert venue - you're really close to the action and the rest of the fans, no matter where you sit. Most of the time at sporting events, you end up actually watching the massive TV showing you what's happening on the pitch, but at Buck Shaw I spend most of my time watching the players themselves, because they're so close. The pitch isn't as large as some soccer fields are, so even if the action is happening way at the opposite end, it's not too far away. I really like the crowd at the Quakes games - a great mix of families and groups of friends in their 20's and 30's. Everyone seems to be there just to have fun and have a good time. It's not like some sports where you get very unruly fans, or even like European football which suffers from a lot of hooliganism. Before the games, you can get food and drinks from the food trucks that set up there and enjoy the pre-game atmosphere. If you arrive really early, there's usually a special item given out at the match. Plus at the end, when we win, you get a collectible pin of one of the players. Your experience at Buck Shaw will be most enjoyable if you come prepared. Yes, the seats are uncomfortable, but that's what those portable butt pads are for. If you want back support, then be sure to book your seats in the sections with seat backs. And please for goodness sake, if you're a lady, use the bathroom either before you arrive at the stadium or before the game starts. The one bathroom I went to before the game had three stalls. Yeah that line is going to take forever during halftime. Useful tip - if you want the most affordable seats, pick up vouchers from T-Mobile for the T-Mobile PowerPlay Zone. They're $15 each, and then you take them to the Earthquakes offices and redeem them for any game in the season. And because no seat in Buck Shaw is a bad seat, you don't have to worry. And the section is right near the Ultras (but not too close!), so you really feel the excitement of being there. As far as parking goes, it's definitely confusing because there are at least 5 lots and they're not clearly marked on El Camino, but if you get there early, you can get parking in the $10 lot. The stadium is also really convenient to the Santa Clara Caltrain station across the street. For our last game, we were coming back from SF so we got off the train at 6, getting plenty of time for the pre-game festivities, and then we caught the train down to SJ at 9:43 - perfect timing on both ends.

HP Pavilion (7:30 p.m.): My dad and I went to the game on Saturday (San Jose played the Utah Blaze). It was at least the 6th SaberCats game that I've been to. As usual, we saved money by parking nearby (it's interesting how many houses are just across the street from HP Pavilion- a house a block away is now up for sale). When we arrived, my dad let himself be frisked. It was comical (he just walked over to one of the guys and raised his arms- I briefly wondered if he had done something in the past that I was unaware of). I had about as many items on me, but just walked right up to the doors. The edges of the main stairs currently feature some cool images of the San Jose Sharks (it's sad that they just got eliminated from the playoffs). We had great seats (we were 10 rows back, and were only blocked off from seeing kicks go through the left uprights), and our tickets were just $9 each (my dad took advantage of a promotion). The guy to my left was annoying (he went to the game with his dad too, and I wish his dad had been sitting next to me). He had some booming claps (he almost made me go deaf), and he was too wound up early on (he clapped over every little thing). Only 2 vendors were around (I'm glad that we weren't hungry- only a few kiosks were open too). One sold cotton candy, and the other sold Dippin' Dots (Banana; Chocolate; Rainbow). I was tempted to buy some, but didn't. The woman who sang "The Star-Spangled Banner" was pretty fine. She also had a beautiful voice (I actually noticed). T&A: "Stop teasing me!" (what a guy behind us kept saying to the young woman who goes out on the field to signal the beginning and end of commercial breaks). The woman is "too skinny" for my dad's taste, and I think the woman the current one replaced was hotter. It's cute, though, the way the new woman dances. You can tell that she has a lot of fun during games (the other woman was more serious). The SaberKittens were also standing very close to us, but I didn't actually look at them much. With a few exceptions, the women aren't that hot this year. The Kiss Cam action kind of sucked. Too many old couples were featured, and this one guy was clueless as to what he was supposed to do until the camera started to cut away. A ton of penalties were called. This guy and his sons couldn't make up their minds: "Hey refs! You suck!" "Hey refs! You're great!" o_O A Utah wide receiver made a "flying catch over the boards," and another one went over the boards a few minutes later. It was also memorable when San Jose defensive back Clevan Thomas made a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown in the 3rd quarter. The SaberCats normally draw over 10,000 fans (the attendance on Saturday was 8,438). Still, it often got very loud inside. Some fans also did some crazy dances. A few guys even took off their shirts ("No, no. Put your shirts back on. Please."). I kind of agree with another reviewer ("no more cowbell!"). I'm used to it, but some fans bring cowbells and ring them too fuc---- much. You might think that you're at a farm. Free!: The SaberCats have always treated their fans well. This is what was given away during the game: -3 footballs (fans get to keep balls that wind up in the stands). A guy at the end of our row caught the ball that was thrown away at the end of the game. -A whole row got Lillie Mae's "famous" BBQ sauce. -Another row got Buffalo Wild Wings (I think this occurred when a guy threw a football between the uprights- he had 2 tries, but was good in his 1st attempt). -Another row got Round Table Pizza. -Yet another got In-N-Out food (in most cases, vouchers are given out only). The crowd went crazy, by the way, when the logo was flashed. -As usual, some T-shirts were shot or launched into the stands. -5,000 fans got a Program/Green Night Reusable Shopping Bag (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/san-jose-sabercats-san-jose?select=1VBDoLhLt0EYFkHTGFJitQ#yAaOuPNkLRMGMNuEwLf6oQ). I am thankful I had a beanie and my Ugg boots and jacket to keep me warm. I also remembered to bring a seat cushion for my seat on the bleachers. Overall, I had a good experience watching a college football game for the first time. The only down side was the parking was full. My friend told me in time so I end up taking uber there instead so I don't have to worry about parking. Then finding the will call ticket was a challenge. I didn't know the will call tickets were right where the ticket booth was. They should add Will Call to the Ticket Booth sign. Just took some time to find the will call to get my ticket. Overall, if you come during the winter, make sure to dress warm and bring transparent bag. It's a good stadium to watch a football game.

I lost out on my money and now i have to dispute this with my bank. SJ Barracuda will not be able to support you. Their advice? Call the box office next time and dont buy tickets on their website. It's 2026 and we still have to deal with this garbage. And they wonder why fans dont come to their games.....
