I have been to other locations before and was very pleased. So when my cousins from Georgia suggested to meet up here I was all for it. Unfortunately we should have choose some place else. I will say the staff was nice but our server wasn't very attentive. We had to ask for someone to get him when we needed anything. When my plate arrived it was extremely hot. The server put it down in front of me and informed me of how hot it was. I didn't understand why a plate for a taco salad would be that hot. The food also was not good. I know many do not complain when there is a good helping of meat in their dish but I am not everyone else. Especially when the meat was too salty. I ordered the taco salad with beef. There was mostly all beef and barely any vegetables or sour cream. It was dry as if there was something missing. My daughter also had to send her dish back because it contained big chunks of onions. Before we sent it back we checked the menu and onions was not listed in the list of ingredients. The server informed us that onions is inside even though it doesn't say it and there are also onions in the cheese sauce that is on the burrito. We had to have it made again without it. She was pleased the 2nd time around but by then we had to wrap it to take with us. Everyone had their food and they forgot to bring my cousin his. Desperate for food in Lumberton, NC, we eventually decided go eat here based on some vague memory of a positive review. Upon seeing the oddly decorated front windows, we almost left. Upon setting foot inside, we were glad we did: it has the definite feel of a small, family-owned mexican restaurant, even thought it's part of a chain. Our hopes soared even higher upon reading the menu: a wide selection of food, and even a little vegetarian sub-menu. We ordered food and beer, and enjoyed the guacamole appetizer. The food arrived. The food looked delicious. It wasn't. First strike: the cheese enchilada was stuffed full of processed cheese product, not actual cheese. Second strike: the bean burrito was just refried beans in a tortilla, nothing else at all. Third strike: the chalupa was just a tostada shell, a splatter of refried beans, and a heap of shredded iceberg lettuce. The food was basically inedible (though what i did eat didn't cause any stomach upset, which suggests that the refried beans in the vegetarian plates were actually vegetarian, which is quite rare). Stopped at San Jose on the way back to Raleigh from Myrtle Beach. Wanted a quick, good meal at a reasonable price and were not disappointed. The place is small and cozy with a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The food arrived promptly and was very good! My son even tried something new and loved it! When it came time to leave, our server brought us togo containers. A few moments later he returned to put our items in a bag for easier transport home. I had to make a trip to Lumberton, NC, and stayed at a nearby motel. I went scoping out the area. I noticed San Jose. I ran into a nearby store and the aroma hit me hard. I had already made dinner arrangements that night, but I decided to give it a try the next night. I had had a great day, and decided a celebration was in order. I ordered a salad that sounded flavorful and unique, a blend of vegetables and fruit with a creative dressing, The server explained that they weren't serving that because they didn't have all the ingredients. Ahhh.... life during Corona.... I finally found another that sounded good. The menu didn't have an a la carte section, but the server said I could have a chili relleno. Sounded good. I ordered a house margarita while I waited. The mix was neon green, giving the drink the hint of artificiality. Plus. I couldn't taste any tequila. Meh... Got my to-go and paid. I will say service was fast, and the server was very pleasant. I got back to my room and unpacked my vittles, and a conference call came through. I tried to conspicuously eat my salad. It was the flaca salad, loaded with goat cheese and avocado, with good amounts of diced tomato, sweet corn, black beans and lettuce. It was enhanced by a sweet and tart dressing, which was a perfect blend with the creamy saltiness of the goat cheese. A few crispy tortilla chips as a garnish added a nice crunch. Hopefully, I was discreet on the call as I scarfed up the salad. The call lasted longer than I anticipated. When it ended, I was too tired and too full to go for the chili relleno. When I got ready to leave the next morning, I realized the relleno was untouched. I had not brought a cooler with me, but I improvised and put some ice in the bag from the ice bucket and tied it up. I put it in the bottom of a plastic bag and placed the relleno container on top. I tucked it inside another shopping bag. My husband was in disbelief that I didn't just toss it, but it'd been in the fridge all night. I figured it'd be OK. Nearly six hours and almost 400 miles later it was still on ice, and it reheated well. My husband tried to act like he didn't want any. So, I didn't give him a bite. I know he was jealous. I'd go back again, only I'd order a Corona if I was getting take-out. It's the thing now, you know. read more

Overall I'm satisfied with San Jose mexican Restaurant. I love the xango, San Jose Pescado, Burrito Deluxe, hard shell tacos, nachos supreme, shredded chicken quesadilla, and shrimp fajitas. It's better to eat in than get takeout unless you drive quickly home. Your foot will get cold and moist. The counter staff/waiters could be more friendly. There's a loyally program but takes a while to really benefit from it as it's a points system versus value card punching. Be sure to sign up at the register. read more

I really enjoyed lunch here. I got a vegetarian combo with a potato enchilada, a bean enchilada, and a quesadilla. I was a in rush, so I did not get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked, but I would definitely order it again. The waiter was nice, and the place was clean. I don't live in the area, so it's unlikely I'll be back, but if you're around, it's a nice Mexican restaurant. Went and ate here for dinner with one of my family members. When we walked in one of the waiters saw us and just pointed us to a booth. We sat down and waited for them, when they finally came over they brought our chips and salsa and took our dink orders. We sat there and waited with no menus. When they got back they asked if we were ready or did we need menus.? They gave us our menus and a few minutes later took our order. Other groups started walking in and was walked to their sets with menus and silverware and the waiter was kind to them. When our food came out I waited 20 minutes for the waiter to notice me to bring me silverware. I finally got my silverware and ate. The food was good but the service was not. read more

We got nachos and hot sauce, had to ask for milder sauce. We asked for extra fajita shells, as my son and I shared. I have never been a fan of Mexican food, but my son keeps trying! We asked for double beans, no rice. The service was good, but the meat was so tough, I couldn't hardly chew it, there were no red bell peppers in fajitas, and they asked us did we need lettuce and tomato. The lettuce and tomato had maybe a teaspoon of sour cream and no guacamole. The fajita shells were much thicker than the shells we get at other San Jose restaurant! The server brought us small square plate of beans with about one teaspoon of cheese! This San Jose restaurant was higher than the other San Jose across the interstate and the food was just not good! Absolutely nothing good to say about this restaurant other ythan the water taste good. The service is terrible and the was overcooked. We got two fajitas that came out on veryhot skillets. The skillets were so hit it burnt the lower layer of food. Everything thing came out piece mill: first the fajitas came on very hit skillets, then the tortillas, then the lettuce guacamole & pica de gallo with sour cream (which was just lettuce, no guacamole, chunked sliced tomatoes only). The cheese dip was runny as the water in my cup. The salsa was looked like regular salsa but was bland. Eat there at you own risk of your taste buds. This is a tiny little restaurant tucked away in a shopping center. It was not too far off of I95 and we were trying to find something other than a chain restaurant. The service was prompt and friendly. Customers receive the typical chips and salsa. There is no liquor here. The food seemed fairly authentic. It was good but, not outstanding. The food was reasonably priced and considering where we were, a city with a bunch of hotels off 95 the food was quite good.
