Passing through on a Sunday, stopped here based on reviews and based on the menu was not what we usually see in mountain towns! We got the 10 piece bone in wings, buffalo. Super good, crispy, big. Plenty spicy. $17 Also tried the Bonnie and Clyde Which was 3 catfish pieces and 5 fried shrimp, with coleslaw, 2 hush puppies, and fries! Outstanding!! Definitely can tell hand breaded, super tasty. We went on a motorcycle ride today from South Fork to Pagosa Springs and this restaurant was recommended. It is a holiday weekend and when we arrived about 12:30 we were told there was a 30 minute wait. We waited and really enjoyed our lunch. My husband and I shared a crab cake appetizer, he had fish tacos and I had a cup of bisque. All of the food was very good and was worth the wait. The Server was excellent and checked to be sure our food met our expectations. Highly recommend! It's worth making your way through the street and sidewalk construction. read more

We were traveling from Gunnison to Santa Fe and stopped for lunch in Pagosa Springs. We chose the San Juan Eatery for lunch and were extremely happy with our choice. Lots of choices on the menu. We both opted for the fried chicken strip dinner. It was huge. We will definitely have it leftover for dinner. We are from Texas and are both foodies. We tried to convince them to relocate to Fort Worth. Our service was outstanding. The atmosphere was casual and friendly. The music was awesome. We will be back our next trip! read more

Service wasn't great. Staff was sitting at a table the majority of the time, but was nice enough when taking order and refilling out tea. Ambiance was fine. Impression is the restaurant is somehow connected to a local animal rescue, I ordered blacken cat fish tacos. Portion was generous and sauce was good but the cat fish filets were over cooked and quite dry. My friend ordered the salad with blackened chicken and said it was good. They have clearly marked gluten-free options and as someone who requires gluten-free food I can attest that the catfish and okra taste delicious and don't give me any trouble! We stopped in for dinner after three days of backpacking--and a refreshing swim in the San Juan River. The service was excellent, and the food did not disappoint. We had the fried catfish, shrimp, and oyster plate (the oysters were perfect) and the grilled catfish tacos. We shared a slice of Key Lime Pie to top it all off. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. Keep an eye out for the small restaurant sign beneath the large "Montoyas" sign overhead--it's easy to miss, especially with the ongoing road construction. We were really wanting to eat at the Losta Cajun but this restaurant was now in the building and we were already there so figured why not. Right off the bat we found the table sticky with dried food on it and in the cracks between the wood. Pretty gross. Menus came and the prices were really high but we thought we would make the best of it. I ordered the fried pickles. They were so salty we couldn't eat them. The server was nice but sat most of the time on her phone. Which is probably why the tables are dirty. We both ordered chicken fried steak. They came out on little plates. I thought for the price we would get more than we did. The gravy was definitely packaged gravy. The steak was terribly over cooked and had to be frozen. Mine was so dry I couldn't eat it even with the gravy. The coleslaw was definitely pre-made and disappointing. The one good thing was the mashed potatoes. They were good. read more
