Like others writing reviews, I wish zero stars was an option. The owner/manager/lizard person who runs the place has been rude to me on three different occasions over about a 2 year period. I will not visit again and give him another opportunity. I don't know him and he didn't remember me, but I remember him and suspect that rude is is default setting. On each occasion I went to look at a machine that HE COULD NOT GET STARTED. Two were brand new, one was used. I guess his rudeness was bluster and cover for selling junk that wouldn't even start--not really sure. But I can tell you this, if you know a bit about these types of machines (which I do) and ask the right question about this that or the other, while the thing won't start the guy goes off like fireworks and starts getting loud and rude and (like magic) the fact that his machine won't start it has less to do with the machine, and more to do with the suggestion that you (the customer) are an AHole. Now the mechanics I've met on two different occasions (the men trying to get the machines started), both men in their 70s (like me) are the friendliest most honest and most likeable people imaginable. I do find it interesting that what they tell me (when the boss ain't around) is not the same thing the boss says when he shows up. They weren't trying to hard sell or be slippery, just chatting about the machine honestly with me. When the boss/lizard person showed up and joined the conversation facts, specs, repair histories, and such changed--not to mention the over all tone of the conversation--which went from my perspective from straight forward and forthcoming conversation that gear heads chat about to the stuff that bulls make out of their back ends that you are not allowed to type out in a review on Yelp. Pounds and pounds and pounds of it were hitting the ground at one point via the lizard person. I got a little bit of it on one of my shoes and will not be going back for more. I recommend extreme caution when viewing or choosing from the inventory at this place. If he acts like this when SELLING I can't even imagine how he would act on a warranty or repair issue. If I could give them zero stars I would. I've been trying to get plates for a scooter that I bought from them over two years ago. I paid for the plates and they were supposed to mail them as I do not live close to the dealership. I've probably called 15 times and still do not have the plates. The woman who only works several days a week told me she would send them well over a month ago. This was after I've already called probably 10 or 12 times. Every time getting the runaround. I finally talked to the owner today and he is the rudest person I have ever Spoken to. Gives me no explanation as to why I still don't have the plates, tells me to call the woman, who I have talked to twice before, and then hangs up on me twice...now he won't answer the phone. What kind of business treats people this way?? Now I'm left to file suit in small claims court. Horrible!! read more

I purchased a Hammerhead 208R kart for the grandkids. The workers were super interested in making me happy. When I inspected the kart it appeared that one of the front tires was toed out a little. It is very difficult to truly see since the front and back tires have a different wheelbase width (axle length). I also noticed one of the mirrors was loose on its mount and did not hold its position. While waiting to pay for the kart I stepped back outside to the kart and they was adjusting the toe-in and the light. I did not ask that they do anything - I am capable of adjusting both and wasn't positive the wheel alignment was wrong. The tech said "well, when you look at these all day, you can just look to see if its right". Don't be fooled, if they are out just a little its not easy to tell, especially when the width of the axles are different. I have read negative reviews and I believe most are related to the quality of the product itself. San Marcos Powersports does not manufacture the karts/bikes. In most cases they do very limited assembly. If you are concerned about repairs/longevity/quality then I would focus on Hammerhead, Trailmaster then Tao Tao. Skip the others. So far the 208R has operated perfectly. These little girls have literally moved hundreds of pounds of dirt by riding full speed around corners. The throttle is limited so that the max speed is about 25 mph. I think it would run 35mph or more if the throttle limiter was adjusted. Today they are riding on their 6th full tank of gas. They run about a tank of gas per day. If it were not so hot they might go through 2 tankful in a day. Hammerhead is made by Polaris and are worth the extra dollars over the cheaper units. read more

Had a UTV in for repair work. It was stolen from San Marcos Powersports. The company made no offers of compensation. Said they did not have insurance (beware of LLCs). Refused to give me a copy of the service order they said I signed when I dropped off the UTV. Refused to take my subsequent phone calls. My father-in-law, who is in law enforcement, said it looked like an "inside job". Folks...do your homework. After this happened I have found multiple folks that have blogged about the poor service and questionable things that have occurred when they dealt with San Marcos Powersports. read more

Bought a Crossfire UTV in June of 2022. Fortunately, I also got a one year warranty. While the full story is enlightening and full of supporting details, the cliff notes will suffice on this review. First UTV was a complete bust. Basically, it wouldn't turn on. When you could turn it on, it would shut off quickly. After a bunch of calls and emails where the folks at San Marcos Power Sports made strong inferences that I was clearly doing something wrong I got the first cart exchanged. It was an unpleasant experience as a paying customer, but I was excited for the replacement cart, even if I had to settle for a color I did not want. After my replacement cart was dropped off and I gave it a good once over, I noticed the hood was cracked, the cart made a nails on the chalkboard squeak, and the shifting from neutral to drive featured more grinding than a the local college fraternity party's. I emailed and called San Marcos Power Sports but got not email or phone call reply. Two weeks ago I tried to drive the piece of junk and upon parking the UTV my parking break parts shot out. After my wife gave me an earful about purchasing subpar products, I attempted to once again email San Marcos Power Sports (I should mention that my 3 emails and phone calls about the above referenced issues on my new cart went unanswered). Well as you can imagine they did not write me back, so 2 days later I left a voice message. That of course did not get a call back either (I did get prompt reply's when I was looking at buying a cart). So I emailed a few more times with no reply. I'll mercifully end my review here with a word to the wise, "Don't do it". *** Update 1/26/23: For sharing my customer experience I was called a "tool from California" (see screenshot). I am actually from a very small town in the Midwest and grew up farming, but hey whatever. Added a few screenshots and pictures of the second cart. Edit: if I could remove all stars and give this place zero stars I would. We were given the vehicle's mirrors separately so that "the vehicle could be transported more easily." I attempted to assemble the mirrors and discovered that the size of the attachment was wrong - basically we couldn't install our mirrors bc we were given the wrong part. Upon calling them and asking them if they could ship me the correct size, I was told that I HAD to bring the parts in for an exchange (the place is over an hour away from my house) or just order new ones online. Please seriously reconsider doing business with this place. It's very poorly run. read more

Do NOT do business here!! It's not worth your time, money or effort. I messaged them twice about having specific options and I was assured, twice, that they had plenty of options to view what met my criteria. I even expressed that I live an hour away, so it's important that they have the type of UTV that I was looking for. Long story short, we get there and they do not have a single option available and the 16 year old sales person said he has no idea who responds to those messages, but no, they don't have anything that fits our needs. Not to mention, when you pull up to their location, you'll probably want to turn around anyways. Complete shit hole.
