Took my bike in to get a quote for getting my bike painted, they had the bike for over a month, and finally after bugging them every day for over a week, they just gave me the painters number to get the quote myself, then they still didnt have a quote for taking off parts and reinstalling parts. There is no communication between anyone at the dealer. Asking for information, no one puts the details of anything in the notes in their system (multiple service people were frustrated with this as they have told me). I was told multiple times that I would get a call back with more information within a few hours or the next day and no one would ever call. Still dropped the bike off with them and after a month of waiting, I wanted them to check chain tension and air pressure since the rear tire was low when dropping it off. The painter was able to give me more information than the dealer could. When picking up the bike the battery was dead and no communication was given to tell me the battery was dead and would take a couple hours to charge. I arrived and had to wait another hour before the battery was ready and this wasn't the first time this had happened. I once watched one of the service guys go out to start bikes and none of them would start and that was over 10 bikes they had with dead battery's. The service tech that was there when they told me the battery was dead just told be you can wait a hour or just buy a new battery in a attitude. Got the bike back and both tires had low tire pressure by over 10 psi of what the factory says it should be at, and the check engine light was on. chain tension wasn't checked and nothing was done that was asked. This dealer has horrible communication, and watched as one of their employees was drinking a beer as he was working on my bike (since they had taken me back there to look at the new paint). Its safe to say that I wont be taking my bike back here since they don't know how to communicate with the customer and don't know how to communicate internally. They don't know how to get done what was asked and flat out lied to me that my parts were dropped off one day but the painter had shown me he dropped them off the day before so they used them getting the parts that day as to why it wouldn't be done on time. read more

In a nutshell, front of the house good, back of the house bad. If you're want to purchase a Harley or need Harley parts or swag, Gruene HD is a good place. But for service... STAY AWAY. The actual mechanics are nice guys, but they come and go. It's the guys at the service desk now (especially the bald dude) who are the problem. They treat you like a number and are even insulting. They think that since they are always booked up they can treat me like a number and even be insulting when describing a problem or working into THEIR schedule. I have spent THOUSANDS of dollars there in parts and service and after many years of being a customer... I'm through. While I haven't been pleased about bringing my Harley's back occasionally because their service dept. didn't correct the problem. They have been fair about the costs with that. BUT NOW I'm done because of the repeated poor attitude of that one asshat. I now join the hundreds of other local bikers I know who already know this about Gruene (they think I'm stupid for bringing my bikes to them for long anyhow). read more

I received an email from Gruene asking me to write a review for their own review page. Since I already bothered writing one, I figured I'd post it here as well. So: "Gruene H-D has done a decent job overall, but my biggest complaint is how the service department handled two different issues I brought my bike in for. The first one involved a battery that needed to be replaced. I was told by one employee that I just needed to ride more often, which was really obnoxious and presumptuous of the employee in question, since I ride almost every day, and spent seven years with nothing but this bike to get around on. I am NOT a weekend warrior, and maybe the average person my age hasn't spent much time riding, but I started when I was 18, and if I had to pick between my truck and my bike, I'd go back to just having the bike. No employee should make insulting assumptions like that about the customers they're supposed to be helping. The second incident involved the bike dying at stops when the clutch is fully disengaged (or at least when it should be, i.e. when the lever is fully pulled in). I'm not a mechanic, but I know enough that I strongly suspected it was either an issue with the clutch or with the idle being set too low. I was treated like a kid that was still learning how to ride and just didn't know proper clutching technique (I purchased my bike new, and know how it handles when it's working correctly). Since I couldn't fix it myself, I just kept riding it as it was (revving the engine slightly whenever I felt it was on the verge of dying while idling), until finally it gave out. Now it's in the shop having the clutch assembly replaced (following a diagnosis by Gruene, not because I decided on my own that it had to be replaced). I'll be ecstatic if everything is in order once I get her back, but I can't help but wonder if some of this could've been avoided if the person I'd spoken to previously had taken me a bit more seriously... The folks in parts have always been great, as have the ladies up at the front desk. Even in service, I've been happy with most people. It may have even been the same guy that pissed me off in both of the aforementioned scenarios. I don't hold them against Gruene H-D as a whole, but I'm also not about to forget the way I was treated by that individual (or individuals, if it wasn't the same person)." read more

During a recent visit to the area, we met some of the fine folks at Gruene Harley while dining at the Gristmill. My wife and I both ride. We call it sort of a ying-yang relationship as she rides an 883 custom Sportster and I ride a modded 650R Ninja. Regardless of the continent where your bike was produced, the people at Gruene Harley are happy to see you. They have a good selection of bikes new and used and a fully stocked clothing department. My wife and my stepdaughter went to this dealership to purchase a hoodie for me. They got there a before closing but the doors were locked. A young female answered the door to inform my wife and stepdaughter that they were closed. It was actually an hour before closing. They explained that they knew what hoodie they needed to purchase and it would just take a minute. The young work stated she would ask her manager. The worker never returned to inform my wife one way or another. After waiting for a long time, my wife peaked in the window and saw the manager and worker at the cashier 10 to 15 feet away. They could clearly see my wife and my stepdaughter waiting outside. My wife left and drove to South Austin and received excellent service at Cowboy Harley Davidson that same evening. At a different Harley Shop in Texas, the salesman lied told me my 2019 road glide special had TPMS which I had told him was a condition of the sale. Being that this was my first Harley experience I didn't know much about the infotainment system. Turns out no TPMS on the 2019. I had already made the purchase. I was told for 1200$ they could add RDRS the next day when I had them install handle bars. Couple months later I got a nail in my tire so I figured sweet I'll get the rdrs installed. Once again after the newly inspired research I found out that the 2019 was not compatible. I had been back to the dealership multiple times with no reasonable solutions. Gruene HD is the closest dealer to my home so I patched the tire and headed in for new tires. Complained about my situation to Aaron the sales guy and he actually helped lead me to a solution for a TPMS that only ended up being a couple hundred dollars plus labor instead of 1200$ and Paul the tech and Dominic and Zach from the service department and Steven and Daniel from parts teamed up to provide excellent service and flip the bike I had bought elsewhere from one about to be listed on Facebook to a bike I can now enjoy. I am extremely happy that this could be accomplished for around 300$ parts and labor vs 1200$ I will be gladly doing business with Gruene HD going forward. Austin/Round rock Dealerships should model the integrity shown to me at Gruene. Thanks Gruene team finally after a couple months of irritation I can get to enjoying my new HD! read more

I can't even describe my disappoint with Gruene Harley Davidson. My bike was damaged due to bad gas from a local gas station. I unfortunately received a half diesel/gasoline mixture. To make a long story short, my bike ended up at Gruene Harley for engine problems due to the bad gas. Gruene Harley did a horrible job with my bike. My bike ended up in Gruene Harley 3 times and it still ended up not getting fixed. The first time the bike went into Harley was the next day after the bad gas,They flushed the tank and stated there was nothing wrong with it. They drove the bike and there were no codes, I take it home ( I live less than 2 miles from the dealership) and the bike was throwing codes (9 of them total) and spitting, sputtering, dying on acceleration. Gruene said the codes the bike was throwing was all electrical, how can a gas problem make an electrical problem! According to Gruene Harley the bad gas caused my throttle position sensor to go out, which by the way they have been trying to change it (for the better half of a year) anytime I took the bike in for anything. They fixed the throttle position sensor and I took my bike home. Not a few hours later my bike was back at Harley the same engine codes that they just claimed they fixed and cleared. I took the bike back to Harley and they said nothing was wrong with it, that it was me, and I have driven this bike everyday( it's my own mode of transportation) and I have never had an issue before the bad gas. Harley kept my bike for 3 weeks and was unable to fix the issues and they knew I was going on a 12 hour ride. The day of the trip my bike was given back to me, they stated they drove the bike 50 miles and they didn't have any issues. I get less than a mile for the dealership and the engine lights come back on, and bike stalls, I get it started and go back and this time they said it was the ECM. the replaced the ECM and said it was fixed and safe to ride. I actually made it home on the bike without any issues. I leave for my trip a couple of hours later, get to Dallas and the issues start right back up. The bike starts stalling, snoking, dying, burning gas, and jerking. I get to Oklahoma stopped at gas station bike didn't start, I finally got it started and I was able to continue my trip. The bike ran like shit the whole way. I get into Missouri and the bike as its accelerating the bike dies taking me and the bike down, almost causing an accident. I get the Bike to Mid america Harley in columbia MO, they pulled the same engine codes it had from Gruene and stated it had nothing to do with the electrical issues the internal engine burnt hot and scorch due to the Diesel fuel. Mid America harley wanted to scope the engine, and since Guene was getting charged for the process that refused to let them look at the engine, so all they did was replace the burnt spark plugs. On my trip back home to Texas, my bike was backfiring, and it consumed and additional 6 quarts of oil on the way home,it was overheating and blowing smoke like we were at a bonfire. I got it home took it to a different shop, and my engine was blown due to the Diesel fuel that was in the original bad gas situation. I will never shop at Gruene Harley ever again. I also know a great deal of people that ride motorcycles and I have been letting them know of the terrible service I received. To add insult to injury Jerry in the service department every time I brought the bike in, he came off as very harsh and hateful, as if I am a stupid female, and I can tell you that I could have fixed the bike myself, but since the gas station was picking up the tab, I sent it to a shop to fix it. If harley would have just checked the internal parts of the engine, checked the rings and valves and cleaned them in the first place we would not of have this issue, they didn't even change the plugs that were burnt out from the fuel. I went from going into Gruene Harley a few times a week to never stepping foot in there again. I may not have bought I bike there but I have bought a great deal of accessories, and parts, and clothing. I finally got my bike back from 210 Cycle shortly after Thanksgiving. So here it is 6 months that could have been avoided if Gruene Harley did their job in the first place and fixed my bike. That is ridiculous and I will never step foot in Gruene Harley again, and I have already been telling others about my experience and where not to take their motorcycle. read more

Because a friend needed help selling his motorcycle, I ducked into Gruene Harley Davidson. The store was bright and clean, and both the merchandise and motorcycles were arranged neatly. The counter staff greeted me promptly, and steered me to sales member Chad, a big bear of a man with a warm and friendly personality. We went to his office and he looked up my friend in their records. Sure enough, there he was--buying history and everything. Chad gave me good suggestions on the best way to help him. I came in some time later to check out a community outreach event they were having. Gruene HD is really great about helping kids, veterans, and others in between; strengthening their public image. The last time I visited was the day after my son turned 17. He was the only family member who hadn't been on a motorcycle. I was, as usual, greeted by a friendly staff member and I told her the reason for our visit. We waited a short time and she returned with Tim, a mountain of a man with a big smile and heart to match. He helped my son get on a bike, then he straddled the front wheel and pulled the bike upright so my son could get as much of a riding experience as possible while sitting still. My son has Cerebral Palsy, and that's the closest to riding a motorcycle as he will get. I can't express enough the gratitude I felt toward Tim for his kindness and patience as he held that motorcycle as long as it took so my boy could have a virtual ride. The grin on his face and the sheer joy he experienced said volumes about the outstanding customer service Gruene Harley Davidson provides. Yes, they sell bikes, gear, and do maintenance. They adjusted the rear shocks on my '06 FXSTi while I waited (on a Saturday no less). The mechanic also tightened the handlebar riser bolts. The dealer where I made the purchase refused to even look at the bolts, telling me the rubber bushings needed to be replaced. I was invited into the shop to watch and was talking to a guy that I later learned is the owner. It's an hour or more ride from my house but I'll still go there for servicing etc. read more

I can't speak for the service side but the retail store was a nice facility and the lady that helped me was extremely nice. I happened to go in on a day they were having a little event and had a good time. This store definitely had more of a woman's selection as far as clothes and shoes but I did find Myself a nice blouse. They were very attentive and polite to me that day. Since my original review of Gruene Harley two years ago, they have really stepped up their customer service. They have different management, and it seems that the changes have made this a great dealership now. I have spent a lot in upgrades on my Fat boy the last 6 months including new Vance & Hines exhaust system, new seat, new handlebars, etc. They have done a great job both in the parts department (Joey is awesome !), and their service department with installation of the upgrades and my Stage 1. Great place! First, let's get the star deduction out of the way. The ONLY reason I deducted a star was because the selection of bikes really catered to the touring crowd and less towards the softail, sportster, dyna group. That's it! Other than that, the selection of gear was great. Everything was spotless. There was a pretty cute girl that worked there...but don't tell my girlfriend I said that. :) The Sales guy I talked to was probably the best motorcycle sales person that I've ever talked to. He was not only knowledgeable about Harley's, but about a ton of other bikes and riding styles. I love doing my own maintenance and tinkering, so he talked about Harley maintenance...or lack thereof now that there are belt drives and hydraulic lifters and new lubrication processes in the engines. I wasn't buying that day, and he knew it. However, he didn't hand me a brocure and walk over to the next customer. He told me to sit on the bikes, do my research (I'm into specs and forums and learning about the bike before buying it), and then come see him. Being in sales, I appreciate somebody that doesn't pressure or push. He was honest and consultative and didn't try to get me hyped up. After telling him how far I ride on my streetfighter, he walked over to the Parts and Accessories counter and came back with a simple device to reduce hand fatigue when riding long distances. His name was Dick Musgrove, so make sure you ask for him on Saturdays. He treated me right and took the time to share some knowledge in helping me purchase a Harley. Great composer for the girls at Gruen Harley Davidson especially for Stacy which I Probable was not the best customer that day (sat) but held on tight and stayed cool. I went in for a boot purchase since it was my birthday this June and received a 20% discount(I only expected for the boots) and since I live in san Antonio it was hard for me to get back for the boot was when I did they still honored it.. That says a lot since I am also in business and know sometimes it can be difficult and how much money it takes to get people to come through your doors. I can honestly say that every one there was great and I can see why the G.M. Mr. Smith (Smitty) has them.
