Was recommended here by a friend who ate here during several work trips. The staff is excellent and attentive. The place was clean and kept up. The chips & salsa were perfect. I also enjoyed the best chicken enchiladas I've ever tasted. The food came out quick and hot. The portions were perfect. No heartburn from here and the food didn't taste salty. You've be doing your tastebuds a disservice if you didn't stop here!! It's SO good! Only reason I didn't give a 5th star was, it was a little too dimly lit and there wasn't a hostess to greet anyone when I arrived. Came in at 4:30 on a Thursday. Worst food I ever ate in my whole 70 years on earth ! Had to ask for napkins and silverware ! Son ordered extra lettuce and tomatoes .... He got lettuce and no tomatoes not even the ones he was supposed to get but was charged for lettuce and extra cheese which he did not get or order. did not have any house bourbon but offered Jack Daniela billed me separately for the mixer diet Coke and non of the website prices and menu items matched. I Don't have any pics to share but the service was not the greatest. I've been here pre-COVID-19 and the experience was great but it started with what presented to be a negotiation to who would serve our party of 4.5 (1 child). We waited at least 5 min and there was no wait for seating. The server was not familiar with the menu and had a hard time understanding what we were requesting. We all ordered nacho platters with different toppings but nothing too complicated to record. All but one of the platters was WRONG and the one taken back came out with nothing but meat and cheese with a dollop of guacamole. This was not what was shown on the menu. I would highly recommend that the server shadow other servers first before being put on the floor alone. The mixed drinks were good but tipping a server who got 75% of our order wrong feels like a handout rather than a means of appreciation for the great service. Oh and We were charged on the bill for the nacho platter that was made incorrectly which the manager had to correct. I also understand that a new worker is a reflection of how well leadership trains them. read more

Awesome food! I had the lunch super burrito and it looked like a confection. I almost hated to cut into it. It tasted wonderful; the mole sauce was a nice compliment to the burrito. We will have to come back here again next time we are in town (we live in CA). read more

I'm so glad this place has a Yelp page now! I visited back in August when they had just opened, and was devastated I couldn't rave about them on Yelp. My family and I came and got a variety of dishes, and we were pleased with all of them. The rice is delicious, and I'm not usually a fan of Mexican rice, and the presentation was beautiful! The staff was very kind and accommodating--I asked for a dish without meat, and when they accidentally forgot, they remade my dish quickly and gave everyone free desserts. It's been a while since I've been, so I don't know how much is different, but I'm definitely eager to return whenever I'm in the area! read more

One of my favorite restaurants, and certainly at the top for Mexican food. Surprisingly extensive and varied menu, and everything I've tried there has been uniformly excellent. Stopped in for lunch on a Sunday. Decor is beautiful and service good. However food is just ok. Pretty typical franchise Mex.

I got the street tacos, not only were the toppings (cilantro, onion, and lime) extremely fresh, but the tortillas were mind blowing, tasted like they were made right before they came out. The tacos were rich, flavorful, and hit my craving from all angles. The margaritas (though coming out late) were made fresh and were packed with a vivid lime and salt flavor experience. Our service via Alondra was top-notch. Highly recommend, and will likely return soon! read more

Horrible service. Attempted to have dinner at the bar. 45 min wait for our meals only to arrive cold. Was sent back, returned cold. Garbage trash can completely full, dirty drink glasses stacked up near the dish washer. Employees running around extremely busy and all of this appears to be normal operating procedure for this location. The establishment owner may want to spend some quality time observing and taking action to better serve their customers. read more

We were in Raleigh for a conference and decided to munch on Mexican food. Ambiance is great, beautiful Mexican decor, loved it. Our server wasn't friendly. The food was meh.... my colleague ordered a tortilla soup, which looked bombed. She said she enjoyed it. I ordered the Pollo Ranchero from the lunch special menu; I wasn't impressed. It was overpriced for a lunch special and for the amount of food served. Small piece of chicken covered in onions (it came with onions and mushrooms and I requested no onions nor mushrooms but I received my dish with onions) and small portion of rice and beans and it wasn't flavorful. If you want Authentic Mexican food, this is not the place. read more

San Marcos is pretty standard as far as Mexican food in Raleigh goes. The architecture is beautiful and there's a lot of nice details in the art around the restaurant. I do like it better than La Rancherita, and would recommend skipping that place and it's busy parking lot if you're out at Crabtree Mall. Just across the street from Crabtree by the apartment complex, you will find San Marcos! I've had the nopal tacos here and enjoyed them! read more

The food was very good. I had the carnitas which were very tasty. My Husband had the frajitas. The portions were nice and big. The service on the other hand not so good. He dropped a check before we finished not even asking if we wanted dessert. Also there policy of charging for a little extra sour cream to go and the a to go fee as well for the side of rice we ordered to go is terrible. Sometimes little extras keep you coming back. We live right down the street from San Marcos, so I was excited to have a Mexican restaurant in walking distance. The service was fantastic, in fact, there were way more employees than customers, so we were inundated with bussers, hostesses, and wait staff. The food was a complete disappointment. We ordered guacamole to start and then split veggie fajitas. Both of the portions were tiny, and priced way too high. The vegetables in the veggie fajitas were not even cooked thoroughly. We were then charged extra for cheese, which I thought was insane as we had no meat in our meal, and I've never been served fajitas without cheese. All in all the prices were too high for the quality of the food. We have since found better Mexican restaurants in the area, so we will not be back to San Marcos. read more

They spent a ton of money on this place to create...... Another average Mexican restaurant. The salsa for the chips is actually pretty good. The beer list is not. One craft brewery on draft (which wasn't listed on the draft list), with the rest being Mexican or domestic fizzy, yellow water. My wife ordered the veggie burritos. The veggies seemed fresh, but were unseasoned, lightly grilled, & fairly bland. The only item on her plate that was more bland was the cup of black beans. Kind of a fundamental dish at a Mexican place, but these had no flavor at all. I ordered the shredded chicken Quesadilla Ranchera. The chicken wasn't bad, but the remaining ingredients were almost non existent. There were a few strips of bell pepper and a modest amount of cheese just in the fold of the tortilla. I've been waiting a while for this place to finally open & had high hopes that they'd invest as much in the food as they did in the building. Oh well. read more

Unimpressive food, terrible service. My fiancé and I went for dinner tonight (Thursday), and it was not too busy. Our waitress, however, took a while to come to us and immediately asked if we had enough time to look over the menu, which given her delay, we had. She didn't start with drink orders or anything and didn't ask what I wanted to drink so after I placed my food order, I reminded her that I wanted water. My fiancé asked what the margarita deal was and she said "$2 off San Marcos margarita." Figured that was a house margarita so didn't ask for the price. Margarita comes out in a small plastic cup, half of which is filled with ice and tasted watered down. She said they ran out of margarita glasses. Food comes pretty quickly. I got basically ACP but with shrimp and steak, too. None of the protein seemed seasoned, just smothered in cheese, which is pretty hard to mess up. Fiancé ordered some enchilada dish with green sauce on the enchiladas. The sauce was pretty sour and overall didn't go very well with the ground beef enchiladas. Back to service...our chip bowl had been empty probably ~5 minutes after we got our food, but she never came back to ask to refill it. Same with my water. Never asked to refill it, so I just drank my fiancé's after I ran out of mine. Check comes out and the margarita was $12 (supposedly after $2 off) and the description said it was 16 oz. The plastic cup was clearly not 16 oz, was half ice, and drink wasn't even to the brim...Will not be back. read more
