I tried this place out with a friend over the weekend after driving buy it numerous times while it was being renovated. We had a great experience. The price is middle of the road, nothing too crazy but not super cheap either. I will say, this place will give La Rancherita (at the mall) a run for it's money. The food is around the same price, but in my opinion, San Marcos blows La Rancherita out of the water when it comes to quality and presentation. We walked in and were seated right away. There will definitely other people in the restaurant, but for a Friday night at 7:45 it was little empty - I would chalk this up to the place not having even been open two weeks. We ordered queso to start, and it was "ok". It was a little too thick, but tasted great. Chips and salsa were good, too. We split a half pitcher of margaritas, The margaritas were decent. Nothing great, nothing terrible either. I ordered the Burrito San Marcos with chicken with the roja sauce. Portion was generous, but not overwhelmingly large like some Mexican restaurants. The sauce was great. Service was great. Maria was super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall a good experience - I will be back. read more

This has the feel of a family owned business (it might be - not sure). With big tables and outside options it's a great place to eat and feel like you aren't on top of each other. I was greeted by at least 3 employees within seconds of entering the restaurant. I was immediately seated and received my drink within 1 minute. I ordered fairly simple nachos (Fiesta Nachos no guacamole or tomatoes) but I still had my food within 5-10 minutes and it was hot and fresh. The nachos were essentially half shredded chicken and half ground beef. It was a nice variety. The beans were really authentic. The chips were fresh and crispy. The cheese sauce was creamy and the whole dish was very flavorful and fresh. These were the best nachos I've ever had. And the server checked on me every few minutes. This place is by far the best Mexican restaurant in the area! Its tucked away behind the Crabtree mall area but it surpasses the rest! First time here and was impressed with the food quality, portion sizes and authenticity. Didn't charge more for requests like extra cheese. Service was not stellar, but not far from average. I wanted to like this place. I have lived here 5 months and craved Mexican food. Place is clean, has fun music, ambiance and super clean bathrooms. They are also distancing seating. But food and drink quality is poor. Chicken enchiladas with mole was bland - only sauce on top with plain chicken inside - no sauce nor seasoning. Rice tasted like plain white rice. Salsa had no sign of much seasoning in it. Strawberry margarita was literally poor quality mix with tequila and just not at all enjoyable. Server showed up 40 min after putting plate down. I had finished after 5 min with barely anything eaten. She asked if I wanted to pack it - nope- or replace it. Maybe replace If I had just gotten my food. I politely paid and moved on. Great place for really really authentic Gulf Coast Mexican in Raleigh! Everything is made fresh in house, and the dishes are much more reflective of the fresh spicy nature of Guadalajara than typical Tex-Amex fare. I can't recommend the Carne En Su Jugo enough for someone who wants a break from standard Mexican dishes. It's an absolutely perfect blend of flavor and spice you won't find at most Mexican places. The most bland food I've had in ages. The fajitas were suggested and it was definitely the wrong item choice. The pieces were all charred but we are making covid allowances for everyone now so we did not complain. The restaurant was not full at all but we continually had to ask for drink refills. Horrible customer service I went there with my son's family as they were in town for a medical follow up for my granddaughter I asked if we could have a quiet table which was a 6 top. The manager told us know and insisted on seating us by the bar and lobby. Naturally we walked out there are plenty of excellent Mexican restaurants very close who were VERY accommodating. The restaurant is beautiful, but the service was not good. We observed the back of the house chowing down on Dominoes Pizza while prepping food. We observed the bartender and a waitress taking sips of mixed drinks before delivering them to tables. There was no checking in for refills or other needs by our waitress. The food was good and the price is comparable to other Mexican restaurants, but the service and professionalism of the staff was crap. We will not return and definitely will not recommend. read more

My sister, my nieces my nephew and myself came in for a nice meal together what we got were FAR from that service was slow plus subpar and the was food cold. We waited for 15 minutes before getting our drinks while our server Laura served other patrons, we asked for an extra plate she took the plate to the hostess stand and another table before bringing it to our table. We noticed that other received quick service but not our table, not sure why however this was our visit and LAST time visiting this establishment. My mother, who was visiting from out of town, was treating me, my wife, and our two kids to dinner. Worst restaurant experience I've had in quite some time . The food was fair, but the service was atrocious. 1) my mother ordered fajitas. It took multiple reminders to have somebody bring tortillas. 2) my wife's food came five minutes after everybody else's food despite the fact that her dish and mine were nearly identical (other than mine had pico de gallo, hers did not, so not sure why there was a time difference). 3)it required asking multiple times asking for them to bring ketchup for my son's French fries (I know...he's hopeless! but it still should not require asking multiple times!) 4) when ordering, my mother had answered yes to wanting cheese with her fajitas, and there was no cheese. They came when she had two bites of food left asking if she still wanted it. Then, for icing on the cake- after they had given my mother the bill and she had put money with the receipt, the waitress came, quickly said "oh sorry, we forgot to charge for the kids' milk, so it costs more than the bill says" and she whisked the money and receipt back away. This was INCREDIBLY tacky. Based on the poor service, I might have expected them to say "the manager adjusted the price because of the issues that you had with your food". I have no problem with paying the correct bill but this seemed like a really tacky maneuver and was handled with zero grace. Most restaurants probably would have said, "our bad, we forgot to charge you on milk, so it's on us". If they don't want to do that, that's fine, but it could've been handled less awkwardly. We will definitely not be back. I would have gotten better service by our two kids at home and the food would've tasted at least as good. Generally speaking, a 3.5 star restaurant. First the parking lot is too small for the amount of seating. If the restaurant is half full, the parking lot is full. The drinks are good, but over priced. $3.5 for a bud light or mich ultra, those are the two cheapest drinks on the menu. This was our first time here, and it was a very agreeable experience. The food was delicious; we started with the carousel dips (queso, bean, and guacamole), each of which was terrific, then we shared the fajitas carne for two. Everything was perfectly seasoned. For dessert I had the flan and my wife had the xango. The flan wasn't quite what I expected, but the xango surpassed any expectations we might have had (never had it before). The selection of soft drinks was much broader than I expected; for instance, since I'm partial to diet Mountain Dew, I was very pleased to see it on the list. The service was excellent, and the staff was very attentive. I'm a little surprised it wasn't busier on a Friday evening, but perhaps it's because they've just finished a renovation.
