Food wasn't as expected, not too much to say about the service. The overall experience was ok

We were in the area and decided to try this place. Despite its modest exterior, the food here is excellent. The family run establishment offers a wide variety of dishes with generous portions. The server was friendly and helpful in recommending options. We picked the Chorizo Skillet and Chile Verde Omelet. The Chorizo Skillet: This was a huge plate. They offer choices for egg preparation, potato type, and either tortillas (flour or corn) or toast. The added vegetables were a nice touch. I enjoyed the skillet. Chilie Verde Omelet: Another huge serving! The chile verde was cooked to perfection (they specialize in chili verde) and was overflowing with sauce. The plate came with a large portion of beans that were yummy! This plate comes with choice of toast or tortillas. Not sure if the tortillas are homemade, but they were really good. The only drawbacks were the somewhat slow service and the prices, which are a bit high. However, the generous portion sizes compensate for the cost. Visiting this place is recommended if you're ever in San Martin. read more

We pass but this location all all the time as we go to work and go to school and such. The outside of the location doesn't scream come in but the staff were super friendly and welcoming from the moment we came into the building. The food menu is a tad overwhelming, hard to pick any one item to eat but we did the Birria Tacos, the Beef Flautas and a child's breakfast with chips and salsa. The Tacos - They didn't have a ton of flavor, I'm sure every recipe is different. The limes were dried up minus a few drops, I've had them from several different places not a top 3. The Flautas - come with rice and beans, my wife doesn't do beans often so we asked for extra rice only to be told they don't have Spanish rice, instead have white rice. So we skipped sides. The kids breakfast was unremarkable. I'm not sure we will return but to fill the hallow spot in your stomach in a pinch. read more

We're only travel to Morgan Hill once every few months and we always check for somewhere new for breakfast. We "found" San Martin Cafe on Google Maps, read some positive reviews and decided to give it a try. It is your classic hole-in-the-wall cafe with great food, excellent service and an unpaved parking lot with potholes off the old Monterey Highway. We had pancakes that were thick and fluffy and a large tasty serving of golden hash browns. The Ranch omelette (linguica, ham, bacon and sausage) was delicious and a sizable serving for the money. Our server was kind, friendly and attentive. We will definitely come back for lunch and try their burgers!! read more

On a road trip and wanted a place for breakfast. Saw this on the map close to where we were driving and decided to try something local and not a crappy chain restaurant. Please don't judge a restaurant on its outside, there can be great stuff on the inside. And that is exactly what we got. Small mom and pop place known to the locals. They have a terrific menu with something for everyone. I had their Green chile carnitas Chilaquiles with two over easy eggs. Hearty and delicious. The husband got two eggs, a ton of hash browns two large homemade sausage patties and white toast. We both enjoyed our breakfast and the good service. Over the past two or three months, I have had a chance to eat at the San Martin Cafe four times. After the last time, I realized that I had to write a review. I have never done this before. Please don't let the look of the outside deter you, because inside there is a hidden gem. I have had the opportunity to eat breakfast or lunch in many different places between Morgan Hill and Gilroy. In my opinion, and in the opinions of the people that I brought there, for breakfast and lunch, the San Martin Cafe is number one. If you like menudo, you will love this place. This is San Martin's best kept secret that's why I'd been hesitant to share my review. Every breakfast item I've ordered had always been 10/10. Best tasting chilaquiles and Chile verde in the South Bay. Prices are reasonable and portions are huge. Service is always outstanding. I'm your #1 fan. I'm so tired and disgusted by fancy breakfast restaurants with a great ambiance and fireplace in the peninsula that charges $25-$30 for breakfast and the food taste bland and horrible. read more

I was excited about trying this place out due to the fantastic reviews. I was so disappointed. We ordered a pick up for breakfast. My hash browns were half soggy and done and half raw. I also upgraded for some fruit and it was the most sad section of fruit in the compartment of the container. The "slices" bananas were turning brown. A couple pieces of melon..... really? Upgraded for this? Damn. Lol. My husband said his was okay and ate it. So that's good. I got an omelet and it was okay. I don't know maybe it wasn't in the stars for us to get breakfast that morning but not sure if I will be back either. read more

It requires a little drive to find this place and don't be put off by its appearance. It's worth it. Big servings of home cooked meals. Great for breakfast or brunch. Chile verde with eggs was outstanding. It came with some of the best beans. Instead of regular beans they use the a smaller legume so it's like ground beef. I prefer corn tortillas for that extra layer of authenticity. Tacos are filled with delicious protein and doesn't fall apart when you lift it to your mouth. Not fancy but service is friendly and helpful. Sit outside in the covered patio. Welcome contrast to upscale places in Morgan Hill. I'll be back! read more

Have eaten here a few times & the food was always very good. Ordered two big breakfast burritos (12/26/24) to go and neither one was made correctly. Sausage burrito did not have any pico and ham burrito included jalapeño, green pepper, and rice. It also had no pico. Hopefully next time they will get the order correct After reading owners comment, perhaps I didn't explain correctly. The ham one we were given had rice, a few green peppers and one slice of jalapeño in it. We wanted the burritos as listed on the menu with the changes you stated. The chile rellenos could have been excellent (fluffy egg coating, not breaded, no hint of stale oil) but were marred by a bland enchilada sauce from a can. No zing. Me and my fiancé decided to try something new and out of the way, since we've been going to the same spot in gilroy. So we chose San Martin Cafe, but oh boy we should've stayed in gilroy. Service was alright, nothing too good but not a 4 start rating. I got the skillet with steak, my fiancé got the eggs Benedict. For the skillet, if I had not upgraded to the steak it would've been very plain, with no flavor, the steak on the other hand was really soft and good. The eggs Benedict was... different. The hollandaise sauce was an unsightly bright yellow and chunky, not smooth and creamy. The "ham" that's usually on eggs Benedict was very chewy and very thin. And the pancakes where I thought would be the saving grace... was a let down.In all, I would not go back. Something new to try though. read more

Unfortunately today was a 1 star experience. We tried the Quesabirria tacos instead of our go-to Chile verde. Huge mistake. 1 "taco" is 2 tortillas side by side, which makes it impossible to pick it up. They're also super squishy & fall apart. And they're topped with melted cheese. They should be 1 tortilla with the cheese & meat inside. They should be crispy. These were the worst Quesabirria tacos I've ever had. My daughter ordered the kids grilled cheese & fries. Don't do that either. The sandwich is tiny. The fries are obviously frozen crinkle cuts. The service was also horrible. Everything took forever. We had to flag someone down for coffee refills & anything else we wanted. No one even asked how we were doing after we got our food. It wasn't busy, so there was no excuse. When the server dropped our food, their towel dragged through my daughter's food. She barely apologized. And something smelled bad...maybe something rotting inside the booth seats. I kept getting whiffs of a very weird smell. Don't know what was going on with this place today. read more

I'm going to have to give this place a 2nd shot. Breakfast burritos weren't too great. But there were a lot of people here when picking up and based on other reviews it looks like it has some good options. The jumbo breakfast burritos were large, filling for sure. I was only able to eat half (which is never a bad thing - they don't scimp on portion). We both got steak - the pieces of meat were HUGE which made each bite a little much and hard to chew. Next time maybe I'd try Chorizo. My daughter got the Jr. burrito with ham and shredded potatoes vs. the homestyle - ham was a better choice, but the hashbrowns were crispy and burnt so it took away from how good it could have been. Either way - I wouldn't rule this place out, they had some good options on the menu. I will just try something else to give it a fair shot. read more

Came in on a Saturday morning and was expecting a yummy breakfast since we have been here before. However, out food was absolutely disgusting. We split the chicken friend steak with an extra side of hash browns, eggs scrambled well (no one likes runny scrambled eggs!)
