Great food

Papas Place is the Best Place! Food, Folks and Great Playlist from the 50's Good Service because it's better than Dennys!

Bella H.

The service here is great--it really gives you that classic diner feel. The decor inside adds to the authentic atmosphere, indoor seating with booths and high top tables to dine. They often have daily specials, which is a nice touch, and I left feeling full. Overall, it's a good spot for a comforting meal!

This place is amazing! Very homey-diner type of vibe. Food was so good, waitress was attentive, nice, and made us feel right at home. She had great recommendations and she even gave us a few samples to try! I already want to come back! The french toast was so good and some of the best bacon I have ever had!

Huge portions for their food, great service, and plenty of choices to choose from their menu! Server's always trying their best to acommandate their customers and always having fun with it. It's a classic brunch diner and loved how the inside was decorated with Halloween theme things.

Everything about Papa's was 'meh' except the service! I would give five stars to the great folks that work there and would even be tempted to go back just for that. They were friendly and attentive to absolutely everyone in the place. It was nice and gave a 'homey'' welcoming feel from when you walked in Until you left. It is essentially a 'local' restaurant that serves Denny's quality food but not as consistently and at a slightly higher price point. Which I would be ok with if the food was cooked properly. Everything was a bit overcooked or undercooked and under seasoned. The hash browns were super weird ... more like mashed potato pancakes not fully cooked in the middle with no salt. It was not 'terrible' but it also was not exactly good. Food was more close to two stars. Will I go back? Ummmm ... unlikely but perhaps...

Veggie Benedict and country Chicken Fried Steak with a pancake

Very fun environment with the staff. You can see that on a Saturday morning that a lot of regulars come in. We ordered a veggie Benedict and my husband got the country fried steak. He loved it! My Benedict was delicious. We ate at around 10 am and it's now pm and we are still stuffed lol. Okay we had a couple snacks here and there but the food is filling! It's a very feel-at-home place which is nice! We will be back to try other things on the menu! Yum!!

Excellent service!!!! Shout out to Karie, our server! She is a ray of sunshine! Her contagious smile, positivity and immaculate service made our day. The portion is ample, food is prepared right. My chicken fried steak was crispy, and the gravy was so yummy. Blueberry pancake with blueberry syrup was delicious. Oh, the hash brown was also crunchy outside and moist inside, perfection! You get either a toast or a pancake with your dish, add blueberries to your pancake for less than a dollar, why not? Plenty of parking + convenient downtown location. Feels like a sports bar, we watched the World Cup while having a brunch :)

I went here for the first time today because it's one of the few American breakfast diners that are open late (until 3pm). Upon arrival, we were seated quickly and drink orders were taken by the host. The space itself is decently large but kind of strange layout. There is seating all along the walls of the establishment but the center kind of has a lot of open space. It's a lot of booth and table seating and they can accommodate larger parties from what I saw. The host told us that the food orders will be taken by the waitress. Unfortunately, the waitress (only one) took a very long time to provide us service even though the restaurant was not busy at all. We waited at least 15 minutes before she came to us. What was upsetting is that we saw her serve a different table that came in after us, first. We asked the host if the waitress would be coming to us soon and he just said "I don't know" and laughed it off. It was a pretty unsatisfactory experience. As far as the food, the menu was large with a lot of the common diner options: pancakes/waffles/ French toast, omelettes and other plates like chicken fried steaks. They also had Mexican breakfast items like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, etc.. Lunch options were available which was an array of burgers and sandwiches. I ended up ordering their "spinach omelette" and honestly wasn't stoked about the quality of food. The hash browns were so mushy and moist, not crispy at all like you would expect from hash browns. The omelette itself was okay at best, but for some reason there was a ton of what seemed like gravy(?) leaking out of the omelette which I totally didn't expect. The flavor wasn't there for me anyway. Sadly the best thing on my plate was the side of butter toast and jam. I honestly don't recommend this place which is a shame because I love a good diner. But with the poor quality of service and food I didn't like, coupled with the fact that it's downtown and parking isn't always easy to find, it's really not worth going to for me.

"Avocado Toast" = An un-toasted slice of wonder bread with some avocado chunks, giant slices of undercooked onion, and a glob of sauce.
Stephanie D.

My rating system is a possible star for: food, drinks, service, ambiance, and "other." Food: No star. My husband got the Avocado Toast, which turned out to be an un-toasted slice of wonder bread with some avocado chunks, giant slices of undercooked onion, and a glob of sauce. It tasted as bad as it looks in the picture. I got the Huevos rancheros, which was a tortilla, eggs, and what tasted like canned chili instead of fresh salsa. Drinks: +1 star. Great hot chocolate and wide selection of drinks including brunch classics like mimosas and bloody Mary's. Service: No star. We waited for at least 15 minutes before flagging someone down to order. Once our awful food arrived, our server never checked on us, and we had to flag the manager down to pay. Ambiance: +1 star. Cute spot. Feels like a comfortable, welcoming diner. Other: No star. They charge a +$2 credit card fee? Unusual to have a fee, especially that amount at a restaurant. If we had been told we would have paid cash.

went there in July of last year and had a nice time there for breakfast- service was good and food was great too. stopped by again this january and decided it'd be my last time. place wasn't busy- it had around 3 couples there (ourselves included)- and service was slacking. i had ordered a toast with eggs and substituted the bacon for sausage and ordered a single side slice of pancake. i received bacon instead and our waitress didn't seem to care that our side dish never arrived. i understand mistakes happen but i saw and heard no excuse for it unfortunately.

Went here on a Friday morning. We were greeted by the ladies in the counter and told us to seat any where we liked. They have large booths which is nice for a bigger party. The waitress where friendly and kind. The food was tasty. It had a lot of flavor! Planning to go back in the weekend to check out the wait times. I ordered the chorizo skillet. It was sizzling and delicious. The chilaquile plate tasted it was done with a homemade chile sauce.

Southern Breakfast. Biscuits and gravy

We stopped here on a whim as we were driving through the area. It is a homey, comfortable atmosphere, and the food was delicious! I had biscuits and gravy and they were fantastic. The biscuits were tender and doughy (how I like them). Sausage gravy was smooth and tasty. The bacon was also cooked very nicely. Service was good. I would definitely come back here- especially for the biscuits.

Well it's a sports bar and grill with extras for layout. Extras being an elevated eating area mimicking a boxing ring with the ropes and the megatron with TV screens. Speaking of TV's, looks like 9 good size ones out on the floor and another 4 at the bar. Also, a few chain link fences for that ball park feel. Lots of penants, pictures, plaques and signs on the walls including neons. Full bar, decent beer selection and a few wines. We split The Parker chicken sandwich and back to the freeway. Would recommend.

Never bothered to stop in until I saw a recent post on Next Door from someone that said they went there and had the best Patty Melt they ever had there. I'm not a fan of Rye bread but I do love a good burger. So today we decided to give Box Seat a shot. Spoiler alert, I wish we hadn't. We walked in and were immediately assaulted by some loud kids that were playing some games to the immediate left of the entrance. Right in front of you when you walk in is a raised seating area set up like a boxing ring. Kind of cool. We looked around for a host stand or someone to tell us where to sit but there wasn't anybody. At first I thought of sitting at the bar but after looking at the VERY limited selection of alcohol they had I decided that we might as well just sit at a table. So we seated ourselves at a table next to be boxing ring area and waited to be greeted. I only noticed one fat Caucasian lady that was serving. She tended to a couple of her tables and then began cleaning up a few tables without ever acknowledging us. So after being ignored for about 5 minutes I decided to just go sit at the bar. We sat down and the female bartender looked at us, no greeting, then went and grabbed a couple of menus and asked if we wanted anything to drink. We started with water and then began perusing the menu. I decided to get the Warrior burger, (Swiss cheese, bacon, grilled onions, sriracha sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickles), minus the Sriracha. I thought the burgers here were a bit over priced. Pretty much everything is $20 and up. But I guess that's pretty much true of everywhere you do nowadays. Thanks Trump. I also ordered a Paloma to drink. The drink tasted weird, like it had some kind of spice in it. I've had many Paloma's over the years and the never tasted like this. I thought maybe the glass wasn't clean and had some left over flavor from another drink. I caught the bartenders attention and told her of the issue. She just kind of looked at me and then said, "So you want me to remake it?" I said, "Yes" and she made another one but it still tasted the same. So something was off, like maybe the lime or grapefruit juice they use was bad, who knows. The burgers arrived and they were indeed quite good. However the fries must have been sitting around for a while because they were cold. So the bottom line about Box Seat is that the food is decent but between the surly bartender and being ignored by the waitress, the service here sucks. Maybe I should have known this wasn't my kind of place when I saw that everyone inside, from the front of the house staff to every single customer inside was white.
