Everything about Papa's was 'meh' except the service! I would give five stars to the great folks that work there and would even be tempted to go back just for that. They were friendly and attentive to absolutely everyone in the place. It was nice and gave a 'homey'' welcoming feel from when you walked in Until you left. It is essentially a 'local' restaurant that serves Denny's quality food but not as consistently and at a slightly higher price point. Which I would be ok with if the food was cooked properly. Very fun environment with the staff. You can see that on a Saturday morning that a lot of regulars come in. We ordered a veggie Benedict and my husband got the country fried steak. He loved it! My Benedict was delicious. We ate at around 10 am and it's now pm and we are still stuffed lol. Okay we had a couple snacks here and there but the food is filling! I always like to have savory and a little bit of sweet for brunch, but most brunch spots have dishes that are one (eggs) or the other (pancakes/griddle items). I was happy to see that Papa's Place has a dish called 2+2+2 which is 2 pancakes, 2 eggs and 2 slices of bacon or sausage. The total amount of food was huge, particularly since the pancakes were gigantic. I was also pleasantly surprised to find that with all of the egg dishes, you could replace the toast with pancakes or other carb items...had I known that, I may have ordered differently because I could have gotten a pancake with any dish. They provide homemade salsa which was tasty if on the spicy side, and the menu had lots of Mexican items (including breakfast nachos!). I don't find myself in Morgan Hill very often, but I would definitely explore the menu more the next time I'm in the neighborhood. Service was friendly, and the food came out quickly. While I generally like hash browns, these shredded hash browns were not my favorite. read more

Excellent service!!!! Shout out to Karie, our server! She is a ray of sunshine! Her contagious smile, positivity and immaculate service made our day. The portion is ample, food is prepared right. My chicken fried steak was crispy, and the gravy was so yummy. Blueberry pancake with blueberry syrup was delicious. Oh, the hash brown was also crunchy outside and moist inside, perfection! I went here for the first time today because it's one of the few American breakfast diners that are open late (until 3pm). Upon arrival, we were seated quickly and drink orders were taken by the host. The space itself is decently large but kind of strange layout. There is seating all along the walls of the establishment but the center kind of has a lot of open space. It's a lot of booth and table seating and they can accommodate larger parties from what I saw. The host told us that the food orders will be taken by the waitress. Unfortunately, the waitress (only one) took a very long time to provide us service even though the restaurant was not busy at all. We waited at least 15 minutes before she came to us. What was upsetting is that we saw her serve a different table that came in after us, first. We asked the host if the waitress would be coming to us soon and he just said "I don't know" and laughed it off. It was a pretty unsatisfactory experience. As far as the food, the menu was large with a lot of the common diner options: pancakes/waffles/ French toast, omelettes and other plates like chicken fried steaks. They also had Mexican breakfast items like chilaquiles, huevos rancheros, etc.. Lunch options were available which was an array of burgers and sandwiches. I ended up ordering their "spinach omelette" and honestly wasn't stoked about the quality of food. The hash browns were so mushy and moist, not crispy at all like you would expect from hash browns. The omelette itself was okay at best, but for some reason there was a ton of what seemed like gravy(?) leaking out of the omelette which I totally didn't expect. The flavor wasn't there for me anyway. Sadly the best thing on my plate was the side of butter toast and jam. I honestly don't recommend this place which is a shame because I love a good diner. But with the poor quality of service and food I didn't like, coupled with the fact that it's downtown and parking isn't always easy to find, it's really not worth going to for me. read more

I chose the chilaquiles enchilada style with soft scrambled eggs and their red potatoes. My friend ordered the omelette with spinach and hashbrowns. Our food came rather fast, there were not a lot of people dining. The food was OK. My chilaquiles were a little dry so ordered a side of sauce. The potatoes were under cooked. My friend said her omelette was underwhelming. Is spinach wasn't fresh I had some type of a mix poured in between the layers of egg. Our first choice was beyond busy. Since we went on a Sunday afternoon, it was understandable. We used Yelp and found this place and decided to make the drive towards downtown Morgan Hill. When we got there, there was a closed building with the same address...damn, another victim of the CORONAVIRUS but it was next door. It was very tasty with a good amount of breading...plus, it came with an extra bowl of biscuit and gravy (which was very heavy). The chicken fried steak skillet was very good also. The fried steak was the same as my wife's but was placed on top of the potatoes, drowned in gravy with a sunny side eggs. Very, very filling and dense. My chorizo omelette lack flavor but they recommended their "famous" homemade salsa, which was very good. Since it was thick and had whole garlic, it was hard to squeeze out so I had to too open the top. The southern breakfast was the common eggs, bacon, hash brown...nothing spectacular to write about. The chocolate chip waffles was Da Bomb. The server got an extra order of the waffles from us...gaffed by the server. I thought she meant 2 stacks not 2 orders but it was very good, especially when it was drowned with syrup. I recommend them...with strawberry. Service was kinda okay but get use to having refills ignored unless you flag down your server. When we arrived, the counter lady told us to seat ourselves and the busboy was the most helpful. He was literally the server as well. It got busy fast and seem to outpace the 2 servers, who worked their butts off. The atmosphere of the restaurant was settled, kinda mellow. Seeing the great reviews but my experience wasn't so great, it was slow, only 2 people there and first, they didn't have one of the items on the menu (ok, no big deal). I'd never been there before and the waitress came and sat down at the table then I ordered a salad, it came after a lengthy amount of time and was very small compared to other local places for the price (17.00 or so) and the ranch was not good at all. They put an egg on it that was soft boiled (runny) on top of it and the chicken was hot (not so big of a problem but it just made the whole salad "hot". Then I saw the added charge on the receipt of 97 cents as an ATM fee. Overall, with tip, I ended up paying over 30.00 for a medium sized salad. I would much rather spend the same at Betsy's, just wasn't impressed at all. Maybe I should have ordered the breakfast everyone is raving about? read more

I am such an optimist and, yet, I am writing this review. It's called Papa's place but felt more like the hateful place. :( We live near here so we walked. 1st time: The server was nice. It was super empty so she was attentive. Food was good, not excellent, just good. 2nd time: We ordered the same exact thing as the first time: French toast, eggs with bacon and sausage. The biggest difference was the service. The service was AWFUL. She brought us our food except this time it didn't look like the first time. I told her we had just been here the previous week and ordered the same thing, so why were we receiving a different plate of food. She confirmed our order, asked to see our menu, and showed me what we ordered on the menu. We told her we ordered that last time and it came differently, we asked if we could have what we were asking for, which was 2 sausages and 2 bacons. She told us we were wrong and the plate was correct. The audacity! She said it didn't come with the plate and we would have to pay extra. We told her yes, we will pay, we just want our food. We were hungry and just wanted to eat. She finally came back and rarely came to bring me coffee. When we called her over to bring my partner more OJ, she said no free refills. We told her, again, we want another, we don't care if we have to pay. So I went to tell the owner that we had just been in the previous week and the service was what brought us back, but this time the service was plain awful. She apologized. Finally, on Sunday we drove to Betsy's but it was sooo packed so we came here. Omg worst decision ever. The server was the same from the 2nd time. She is not attentive, the plate of food was cold and actually took a while to come out. Once again, she was not friendly and would disappear for quite some time. My cup was empty and could've used more coffee. I had asked for the French toast to come out first but, nope, it came out with the food. I finally asked for more coffee since she didn't take the initiative to come or ask if we wanted more OJ or coffee. When she came to bring me coffee, she rudely said," move your daughter or I'll spill coffee on her." I moved her high chair out of the way. She spilled coffee all over the me and didn't apologize; instead, she said, "oops" and walked away. She came back with napkins and never apologized. My partner was furious and said we should've waited the 30 min wait at Betsy's instead of being seated right away at Papa's. We got seated right away for a reason- it's not busy. The service is awful and the food is okay. My plate went from a nice portion to a sad portion and the prices went up, too. Now, we just wait at Betsy's. Never going back. They say 3rd times the charm but not here. Service: super casual, not at all professional. She literally showed us and read the menu to tell us how our plate of food was correct- that was rude. Food: Okay. Maybe it depends on the cook or the effort. Why would anyone go somewhere where they're not providing excellent customer service and the server likes to argue about the food. I saw this place had good reviews on yelp so I was hopeful that it would be a great new place to become regulars. The food was okay, nothing to write home about. The waitress might have been on one. She was acting a little strange, which wasn't intolerable. However when she brought the food out to our table first of all she was carrying too many plates but she was also rushing and the food flew off the plate on the table, my lap and the floor. She then picked it up and put it back on the plate. I was pretty shocked. Then she said just kidding and told me she would bring me new food. I'm not even sure she was totally joking. Walking down the main street in Morgan Hill, I one day decided to check out Papa's Place & am so glad I did! Thanks to my server, Sonia (who was wonderful by the way) recommended the chorizo scramble & so glad I listened because it was delicious!! There were several options as to how I wanted to have it whether with hash browns, country potatoes or refried beans but what I loved is I could get 2 half orders to equal my 1 selection so that is what you see in my pic. The other thing that I appreciated was it came with two types of salsa including a delicious avocado salsa...normally in other places I seem to get more of pico de gallo style so when I saw that as a selection is was such a pleasant surprise & made my dish even tastier!! I found out this used to be Just Breakfast until the new Owner, Brandi Zavaleta opened Papa's Place earlier this year. She also told me the touching story behind her new place & am so grateful she shared the meaning behind the name and why you may feel so much fatherly love when you enter...Brandi & her dad were going to run this together as a team when he suddenly passed only 2 months after they signed the lease...I myself lost my dad years ago unexpectedly so when I heard her story, I felt somehow our dads helped connect us so we could hear each other's story & more importantly introduce me to this great breakfast/lunch place right in the heart of Morgan Hill...now after reading this you hopefully you will also want to go & see why it is so perfectly called Papa's Place read more

With betsys being closed in the meantime I had to fill that Chile verde craving somehow and San Martin cafe usually does it but I wasn't up to drive I wanted something close something also local and Papas place came up. The reviews gave me hope. Once there it has the mom and pop atmosphere and the staff is friendly but the the Chile verde made me want to cry. My tears would have had more spice than the Chile Verde. The pork was well cooked but the sauce is what makes the dish and it being watery is not the problem but the lack of flavor does it a disservice and having it be one of the most expensive if not the most expensive dish I felt a bit betrayed. Luckily the beans were well seasoned and that helped me through the dish but this has hurt me on an emotional level. Spare yourself the price and order a different item on the menu. read more
