After yoga class I came out and saw San Sivar two doors over in the same center. This is the Huntington Beach outlet of Salvadoran restaurant of the same name in Costa Mesa. I wanted to grab some quick pupusas, and they promptly took my order. While waiting the owner invited me to have a seat, and he told me they have been open for two years. By the few Yelp reviews, it seems a hidden gem. The pupusas were very good, and not greasy at all. There is plenty of room inside for dine in. They are open everyday except Tuesday. I recommend to give it a try.

Tried San Sivar in HB for the first time. We ordered the mixed pupusa and the jalapeño and cheese pupusa, Bisteck Encebollado (beef steak with onions and peppers) plate that comes with rice, beans and salad. Also the Agua de Ensalada (fruit drink) was excellent! The food was delicious and service was friendly. The only complaint I have is they don't list any prices and when asked about it, his response was "after Covid everything changes including the prices constantly." Hmmm that sounds sketchy to me, which is why I took away 1 star. I found prices on Yelp which I guess kinda adds up right. Total spent was around $40.

I stopped by San Silvar to try some pupusas with different fillings. They were all delicious, made to order, and the curtido had a wonderful taste. I like picante so I added some salsa on top. I'll be back for more!

I have been to the San Sivar in Costa Mesa, and had a positive experience. I was happy to see that they opened a second location in HB nearer to me. I ordered about $30 of pupusas "para llevar" to go. The chiccharones y queso ones were excellent. The masa was soft, and there were a lot of fillings. Secondarily the curtido & salsa were very good. All my rellies I shared the pupusas with, liked them better vs the ones we typically buy from the food truck on Surf City nights. I believe the HB location is smaller vs the CM location. But it works. The HB location is quaint and homey. Likewise the service from the lady in front was very inviting. She told me how long they have been in biz, so I applaud them for being successful. I also applaud them for taking the risk in opening a new location in HB. I have already returned several times since my first visit that I am the Duke. Thats how much I like this place.

We came to eat here today after a baseball tournament and the food was so good. Location : inside there's a good amount of seating. We were a party of five and found a table without issue. Nice & clean Service: the woman helping us at the front was really nice. Great service. Food: we ordered a pupusa, fried fish, tacos, plátanos con crema , yuca with pork and Carne Asada. The curtido was so delicious. we love pupusa and have been to many places that don't have good curtido, but this place nailed it. Pork and steak didn't have a ton of flavor but when you paired it with the curtido , it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this place!

Pupusas

I have had pupusas at a number of different restaurants, and my hands down favorite have been at San Sivar - both this location and the Costa Mesa location. What I like about them is they taste fresh, they taste like they're made with good quality ingredients, and they are not greasy. Furthermore, they're not too fluffy and not too dense - they have just the right texture. I highly recommend them. The restaurant was clean and the woman who took my order was very friendly and helpful.

I should have ordered ahead as it appeared many people did. None the less I am very happy with the wait! The service was great and they were very helpful with recommendations. I feel like pupusas are meant to be kept simple and they mean a lot to me. They are made to order and you can tell by the quality. The Revuelta has a lot of delicious fat and salt from the pork. It's a grounded pork. It combines really well with the beans and cheese. It has a very unique flavor profile. I can see why it's so popular. The Frijol and Queso was my absolute favorite. SO creamy!! I love the thickness of the maiz. And it wasn't too oily! My favorite part was the cabbage salad. It is slightly fermented. It kind of resembles a very very mild kimchi or sauerkraut. Super flavorful and bright. I thought the bag of red sauce would be spicy but it's actually quite sweet. It pairs perfectly with the pupusas. It is tomato based. I always feel very healthy after eating El Salvadoran food. I especially felt great after eating here. The quality and balance is all there.

I don't like that none of their prices are listed, probably because it is a bit overpriced. The pupusas were pretty good and I appreciate that they have a spicy sauce option, since most places only offer the traditional tomato sauce.

They have a local feel when you walk inside. There is a little bit of a wait, and I think they make the food to order, so it's hot and fresh when you receive it. I recommend that if you plan to take out, call ahead to place your order to save time. They are known for their pupusas, which I got on my first visit. I was curious after reading some of the positive reviews. I ordered the revuelta and chicken with cheese. Both had great flavors and would consider getting them again. The flavorful, crispy empanadas were among my favorites. I got the carne (beef) and spinach with cheese empanadas and loved them. The perfectly fried shell and flavorful filling. Their Salvadoran tamales are prepared in the traditional style, with a flavorful filling and soft, moist masa, wrapped in banana leaves rather than corn husks. I love Mexican-style tamales (especially homemade), so this was a new experience trying Salvadoran-style tamales. I think most people will order takeout, but there's a moderately sized dining area with tables. It has a local feel and a pleasant atmosphere. The staff was kind and provided great service. The prices are fair for the quality of the food. I still can't believe I waited this long to visit Nancy's. I can't wait to come back and try other items on the menu. Note: There is a little charge for using credit cards, so cash would be better if you want to avoid the CC charge.
