Our group of six had delicious food ordering one of the combos and adding a Galbi. The downside was having the woman cook our food while standing at the center of the table between me and my sister. I had to hold my plate in order to eat because I couldn't sit close the table and was leaning up next to my husband. When she left to take a break while we ate some of the food, I was able to pull my seat it and eat properly. She had explained that the grill was too far for her to reach from the side of the table. Other than that, the place wasn't too noisy and the food was good. The marinated gal bi was better than all the combo meats. The rib eye steak was my second favorite. I would consider coming back. My husband said there was no pleasing me - I complain when I have to cook the food and I complain when they cook for me. It's upsetting to see how this establishment has fallen. We ordered premium cuts- the beef was clearly glued together with beef glue- not actually whole cuts of beef. It's disgusting. You can tell its beef glue if you even just look at my photos below. The fat markings are a textbook example of beef glue construction. The banchan was also subpar, and sauces were mediocre. This spot is underrated, most likely because it's a traditional Korean restaurant rather than one that's more modern or caters to younger people. As in actual Korean families dine here. It can definitely feel a bit intimidating if you don't have an older Korean person with you, especially since there're different rules than western restaurants (what a concept, different cultures have different concepts of service). No underaged girls in skirts forced smiling and flirting around here, so sorry!! Tbh, this Korean BBQ spot should be 5 stars for the flavor of kalbi/galbi alone, as it's one of the best in NYC and probably the best in Flushing/Bayside area. Kalbi means short-ribs. There's several different styles, but long as it's marinated, it all works for me. Most traditional Korean BBQ places expect 2 servings of meat or a combo order, as the value is in the table side fire/grill and the assortment of random/seasonal side dishes, such as things to make lettuce wraps (sauces, dressed scallions, etc.), kimchi and pickled dishes, stir-fried vegetables, etc. and probably a tofu stew (daengjang jjigae) and steamed egg gyeranjjim). Without calling any out, a modern or appropriated KBBQ/"JBBQ" spot would likely charge you an extra $8-12 per side dish, or just as much for a bit of raw vegetables, which makes traditional KBBQ joints more family-friendly than a date spot. The naengmyun dishes hold their own as well, which are cold noodles that either come with an iced cold broth or spicy sauce. I prefer the bibim naengmyun myself (spicy mixed noodles). Remember, the noodles and the sauce is the star here, and the toppings are just accents (usually shredded radish, slice of Korean pear, slice of brisket, and half a hard-boiled egg - make sure you take a bite of the egg with the sauce or sip of the broth). Make sure you mix up the noodles as soon as you get it because they tend to stick! If you ordered the ice water noodles (myul naengmyun), you have the option of adding vinegar and mustard into it They also have a "for tasting" or "half-portion" version of cold noodles if you ordered table-side Korean BBQ. It usually doesn't come with the bells and whistles, although think this restaurant still gives you some radish and egg as toppings. I've been coming to Sansoogapsan since I was in middle school, and now, at thirty years old, it remains one of my go-to spots for Korean BBQ. While the restaurant doesn't always get the best ratings, I think that might be because of the inconsistent service, which can be a hit or miss at times. But for me, it's all about the food, and that's where Sansoogapsan shines. The quality of their meats is consistently great, which is why I keep coming back. The servers cook the meat for you, but they do cook pretty fast and to medium rare, so if you want something else (for me I like to eat pretty slow and my galbi cooked REALLY well.. like a little burnt..) you can just speak up and they will adjust to you. Highly recommended the mul naengmyeon to complement the marinated galbi!! Rice is not included with the meal, but steamed eggs and a soy bean paste stew are, as well as various side dishes which vary each time I go + veggies/wraps. I've been coming here for years and is the place to go to when it comes to lunch and dinner. My mom and aunts also frequently visit this restaurant as well. They have a variety of dishes like soup, stir-fry dishes and KBBQ. During the summer, I order Bibim Naengmyeon with Kalbi. Other times, I may just want some good old Yukgaejang (Spicy Beef Soup) or Kalbi Tang. Recently, I came here and ordered Yukgaejang while my sister ordered the Yukhwe Bibimbap after leaving my car nearby for an inspection. It seriously hit the spot. Yukhwe Bibimbap consists of seasonrd raw sliced beef, raw egg yolk, assorted veggies, pear, and rice (on the side). They provide red pepper sauce (gochujang) to mix with the dish. It's one of those dishes that people recommend to eat during the winter because it might get spoiled easily. However, when I tried a bite, it was delicious with a mixture of sweet, spicy, and salty. My sister had no regrets. My Yukgaejang was hearty. Thr soup was filled with scallion, shredded beef, cellophane noodle, and egg. Although it says spicy, I did not find it spicy at all. At the end of the meal, they gave a small bowl of a Cinammon Punch drink called Sujeonggwa. Do remember that this is not some fancy restaurant with superior service. You might need to flag down the staff if you want a refill of water. I would probably pass with the different pancakes they offer (seafood and kimchi) aa it's a hit or miss. This place has changed a lot since I last came here. Looks like the place was renovated with a clean look and an open concept. I'm glad to see that they still offer valet parking but I haven't had any issues the last two times I came here. Things we ordered: 1. galbi - I did not have but it was liked on the table. 2. samgyupsal - I did not have but it was liked on the table. 3. fried mackerel - a large portion and grilled maybe slightly over. But I did not mind it. 4. soonduboo jigae - I actually liked it here. Pretty flavorful. 5. duboo kimchi - I did not have but every liked it. This is my second visit to this established kbbq restaurant, and was quite busy on a Friday evening (as expected). This one has been opened for a while, and I find the environment a bit more chill than some of the newer places that tend to blast kpop or have more trendy menu options. We ordered 2 cuts of beef (skirt and short rib, unmarinated) for the table (you must order one meat dish per person if you do kbbq) which came with the usual cold banchan (kimchi, bean sprouts, other veggies) as well as 2 warm banchan (steamed egg and a cucumber tofu soup), and 2 bowls of rice with dipping sauces, lettuce and scallions. The waitstaff will do all the legwork to cook your meat at the tabletop, and I found the meat to be grilled perfectly, not too over or under done. Both cuts were very good. Expect to pay about $40-50 per person for kbbq (outside of taxes and tip), which is pricey for Queens but pretty on par with Manhattan ktown. read more

We ordered combo #7, seafood pajeon, seafood soondubu and definitely all the flavors hit the right spots. The seafood pancake was crispy, the beef from the Lucky combo was tender and juicy, and the soondubu had just enough seasoning and flavor where it wasn't overpowering. The only thing I can comment on is that none of my servers knew anything besides Korean, but that just goes to show how authentic the flavors of this place are. They've renovated over the years and it's pretty nice inside now. The BBQ here is expensive but let's be honest, what restaurant isn't. The average cost for an order short ribs is going to range from $35 to $45 depending on the place. This was such a good lunch! I walked into San Soo Kap San 2 whilst waiting for an oil change nearby. I'd walked past earlier on my way to a small park about a block away and noticed it. Ordered raw beef salad it was super yummy, it came out a bit frozen at the beginning so we waited a bit to get it back to room temperature. I think this is a must try dish. There is wagyu listed on the menu for $85, but the servers couldn't answer what kind of cut or how many ounces per order. We ordered it anyway and hoped for the best. What we got was a ribeye that was not wagyu. I've seen more marbling in the ribeyes I get at Costco (not a knock on Costco steaks). Although it was a decent sized steak, I'd guess around 16 oz, that would cost much more if it were wagyu, $85 is too much for what it actually was. Kudos to the staff of San Soo Kap San II! We presented them a challenge and they passed with flying colors. Scenario: Birthday for 16 guests, 1 child, and 1 guest with gluten allergies. Saturday evening. Reservation requested. They were extraordinary. Seating was comfortable and spacious. The service was incredible. They grilled all the food at the ends of the table to avoid burning the baby. They cooked the non-marinated meats on one grill at one end for the guest with gluten allergies (no Soy sauce). After the appetizers came out, the meat line commenced. I barely had a chance to pause. Every few minutes a plate was passed from one end of the table with a different type of meat. We had pork belly, marinated rib eye, short rib... wow. The apps were great also. The raw marinated crab, egg casseroles, pickled vegetables. The staff replaced these rapidly. I am very impressed with their ability to host such a group on a Saturday night. Granted we made the reservation at 5:30 pm to try to minimize the crowds, our guests were extremely pleased with the quality of food and the service. Appreciated the relaxed ambience and the spacious layout of tables with moveable partition separating groups. The restaurant has varied selection of tasty Korean Banchan, leaf for sum sum, everyone gets their own seasoned scallion salad, to share steamed egg casserole, to share soybean paste soup with veg and seafood, then we ordered Sachultung goat soup (from smaller portion lunch special at waitress recommendation), Sundubu soft tofu soup, amazing cold noodle soup Mool Neang Mun, because they didn't have different type BBQ meat combo we ordered Kalbi beef short Prime ribs and pork belly, will try spicy chicken next time, our friendly helpful waitress was concerned we ordered too much food for 3, grilled the meats for us and then watchful waiters were very attentive. But it was a ridiculous wait for water and for the banchan. Every other table...larger parties that came later than we did got theirs before we did. I didn't understand why. After a while, we flagged down a person who wasn't our server and asked for our water and one soda. I hoped by doing that, they'd get the hint. They did, and finally got our banchan with our order. Kind of defeated the purpose of a banchan...but whatever. Everything was delicious. Dad ordered his sashimi and my sister had a cold noodle dish and I had kalbi beef. All delicious. But our servers weren't attentive at all. We never got refills on our waters. I wouldn't really come back here. The service sucks and the food is overpriced.
