We just had a full central heating and a/c unit installed and are very happy with the equipment and process. The installers and tech are professional, polite and responsive to every question asked. They even slip on shoe covers as they enter and exit the home. Who else does that? The new units are replacing a 20 year-old system that was showing signs of aging and possible safety issues. So nice having a clean, energy-efficient system. The final price was very competitive. A special shout-out to the tech, Pete, and to the installers Tyler and Robert. I have been a subscriber to their maintenance service for years, I just quit ! Over the years the sales pitch has increased which I often accepted as they would tell me I needed one thing or another which I usually accepted. Last year I was told I needed a new Condenser that would be about $15,000 and they had one left. That I did not accept as it was still working fine and has been working fine during our last hot spell. The recent visit in March I was told the outdoor condenser fan was pulling max amps and another pat was below spec and that could hurt the condenser. The part was under warranty but not the installation. $1100 to instal a fan on the top of the unit. I asked how much time that would take and was told about one hour. I was a bit incredulous at the $1100 per hour quote and was told sorry, that's what it is.I finally gave up and when I called to cancel the service after all these years all that was said was okay. On one bother to ask why or if there was a problem and I had not said anything but that I would like to cancel. PS the next service provider asked if the unit had been cleaned as there were a bunch of leaves and small branches in the bottom of the cooling coil. Supposedly that was part of what we were paying for. We have finally moved on after the constant pressure to add service even though the basic wasn't done well. read more

First I'll say this. Probably my fault for not getting a second estimate. Fired up the A/C last week , did't come on. Called Sanborn because they installed the HVAC almost 10yrs ago and had them come out to check it a couple times. Pros... Jose the Technician was a nice guy. Friendly and knowledgeable. He found the problem right away and was able to fix it and get the air running. Cons..... the price. Once he found the problem he qouted me $799. $99. to just come out and $700. to replace the part...which was covered by warranty. I was really taken back. $700. to replace a contact. 15min work! The tech also found the capacitor was starting to show it was getting weak also, but still within tolerance. He said he could change it out while he was there if I wish. I asked how much for the capacitor, he said " it's covered by warranty but I have to charge you another $500. to install. I told him " you already have it opened up and it's 1 screw and 4 terminals, maybe another 10 minuets ". He said he was sorry that he didn't make the charges, which I of course understand. So what I'm saying is Sanborn's A/C are Gougers! I just don't understand why people want to rip people off like that. Again....my bad for not getting another quote....lesson learned. Oh yeah , I went a purchased a new capacitor for $28. and changed it myself. read more

It took a while for me to post this - but it needs to be said. When we remodeled our home about 17 years ago, we hired Sanborn's to install a new HVAC system in our attic. From the beginning, the system never truly cooled our house the way we wanted. It struggled when trying to cool the entire space, and we constantly had to toggle between zones just to get decent airflow. A few years ago, the real problems began. Parts started breaking down -- which can be expected with time -- but each repair came with high costs and complications. What we didn't know then was that Sanborn's was using universal parts that required altering the system to make them work. This patchwork approach seems to have caused more harm than good. Over the past year (2024-2025), things got worse. Every time a tech came out, it felt like a new expensive issue surfaced. One part even had to be replaced twice. A few months ago, the system began making a loud noise. A tech visited and said the previous repair hadn't been tightened properly. He "fixed" it, but three days later, the noise returned -- even louder. The next tech said a new part was needed. After waiting over a week in 90+ degree weather, the part finally arrived. During installation, he removed several components and spent over an hour and a half hammering on the motor assembly. Then he informed me that the motor bracket had broken and now that also needed to be replaced. From what I saw, it looked like the tech damaged the bracket during his work. This prompted me to file a complaint. An employee took my information and promised it would be escalated quickly. Another employee later called and, for the first time, admitted that universal parts had been used and the system was heavily modified to function -- something no one disclosed during prior visits. She also told me the manager and the owner (Jeff) would be contacting me that day. It has now been nine days, in triple-digit temperatures, with no air conditioning, no return call, and no follow-up. Further research has shown that the original system they recommended and installed was not appropriate for a 3-zone home. Instead of a variable speed system (which we should have had), they installed a single-speed system. Worse yet, it was installed backwards, making access difficult for future maintenance and repairs. Yes, HVAC systems age and need repairs. But there's a clear pattern here -- ongoing misdiagnoses, repeated part failures, expensive fixes, and little accountability. Why was there always "one more thing" going wrong, even when the system had been running fine before a service visit? And why is it acceptable for a tech to damage a bracket during installation and then pass that cost on to us? The most disappointing part: zero contact from the owner or manager after nine days without A/C. No offer to help. No urgency. No customer care. Bottom line: This company does not take responsibility, and they do not care about their customers. I would strongly caution others to look elsewhere. Oh - after several months passed and we had to get a new system installed by a different company, Sanborn's called and wanted to schedule a service on my system - you know - the one that they never fixed. Just more evidence that the right hand does not know what the left is doing. read more

This business is does not guarantee their work. Don't let them work on you HVAC unit. Estimator came out, tried to sell me a new unit. Told me the unit was out of warranty. $3200 for the repair. A month later I found out from Mitsubishi that HVAC's in California are warranted for 10 years. After months and 20 hours on the phone I was able to get them to cover the parts. Another month I had to call again to get the refund. $824.49. They must think customers are stupid. There were two boards replaced. Both of those are covered by the California extended warranty. read more

We had an issue with our AC and called Sanborn's Air Conditioning and Heating for service. A technician came out, diagnosed a faulty capacitor, and replaced it. The entire visit took around 30 minutes. We looked up the price of the replacement part online and found that it costs around $20. I was shocked when we were hit with a $600 invoice for such a quick and simple repair, especially during regular business hours. While I understand there are labor and service fees involved, the pricing felt excessive and disproportionate with the time and materials involved. As a female customer, I couldn't help but feel like I was taken advantage of. I strongly encourage others to shop around and compare quotes before committing to service. I had been having issues w my AC for over two weeks. Today Robert M. Came out and fixed everything. He did his due diligence and checked everything to make sure he found the issue. Not only was Robert very polite and professional he was knowledgeable and explained the steps he was taking. He told me he wanted to make sure I had a working AC for the hot 4th of July weekend and he made it happen. He spent a lot of time to ensure he found the problem. If I have issues in the future I want to be able to request Robert. And a huge plus... when he was packing up, he came in with a shop vac and vacuumed my hallway where he had been working. Had nothing but issues from the start. Office staff ALWAYS confused, communication was awful! Poor quality service. Techs were usually nice. We bought brand new units for both heating and A/C but they still could never get them to work correctly on a consistent basis. We've been relying on a Sanborn's for over 20 years now, both to take care of our previous unit and eventually to install a new one. They have not It let us down in any heating or AC emergency including the weekend and have done the same for our daughter in her residence. After a service tech came out to resolve a heating issue, it was decided that the heating and air conditioning system needed to be replaced. This took place on a Saturday. On the following Monday, Robert and Chris came out to do the installation. They were on time and finished the job by the end of the work day. They cleaned up the work area, both inside and outside of the house. Both Robert and Chris were very professional and explained the process as they went along. We recently purchased a home in Redlands, we wanted to have our AC system checked on before the hot summer days went into full force; so we scheduled with Sanborn's AC. Carla, the general manager, is a great pleasure to work with in planning our service. She communicated with me about any updates or changes leading up to my appointment. Our service technician Isaias G. was very informative. He broke down the steps he was taking in the inspection very thoroughly, and was courteous throughout the inspection, letting me know exactly what was happening and what his findings were. When the time came to review his recommendations, He took the time to explain every finding and showed me pictures, so I could better understand. Within the same day of my service appointment, I was able to speak to John and get a second opinion on Isaias' recommendations. At no point did I feel rushed to commit to any work, if anything I felt at ease with the findings and felt comfort in knowing the staff would be available to answer any further questions I may have. But I did not want Mark's great work to be overshadowed by my other concerns. I have used Sanborn's for years. I have the annual service contract, and they are great about calling to schedule my service (which I love, as I don't always remember). Mark came out this time, and was so pleasant to deal with. I will ask for him by name next time. Very happy with my service appointment. We were having our AC check up and the tech, Armando, did a great job. He thoroughly checks our systems and explain the outcome. He also had pointed out some issues and gave us possible fixes. Then he went above and beyond when he asked if there was anything else he could do. I explained I am having balance issues and needed to change a kitchen ceiling light. Without missing a beat, he changed it for me. Didn't expect that! Thank you Armando!! The only issue I had was with the front office in that we had explained that we work (which is why we scheduled for the latest time (330pm-530pm). I got 3 calls trying to change the time to an earlier one. Guys, please listen to your customers. Some of us work during the day and can't just take off from work in a moment's notice. read more

Sanborn's in Redlands prides themselves on their years in business and service they provide. They have this "5 Star Guarantee" that looks good on paper but has a time limit window. When you fall outside that window, well, I guess you are just screwed. I bought a Trane HVAC unit from them in 2018. It cost just under 14k. I pay for the yearly maintenance program, so they come out and service my HVAC twice a year. My A/C stopped working on July 15th. They were able to come out on July 16th. They diagnosed the compressor failed. Do they have any in stock? NO. The part is under warranty. The whole unit is. Does the manufacturer have any in stock? Supposedly NO. The part was on backorder. Sanborn's came back out August 2nd to replace the compressor. Apparently, the part is faulty, and they now feel there is another problem part. Do they have that in stock? NO. I guess since there is no money to be made for them when things go bad under warranty, there is no rush for service, no consideration that the temperature has been in the 90s, no consideration that I have pets who wear coats year-round, and the fact that I work from home. They provided one portable A/C unit. It really doesn't help. My home is not the size of a closet. I went out and bought two more portable A/C units and four high-speed fans to try and keep my pets alive. My electric bill went up $300 with the use of those purchases to keep two rooms habitable. They now claim they found one of the two parts needed. It will arrive Friday, and they can install Monday. Again, they are supposedly a 24/7 company who takes pride in their service. I guess since there is no money to be made for them, as a so-called valued customer I can just wait. Think twice before you buy an HVAC system from them. I am on day 20 with a useless 14k system that is just over 5 years old. read more

Fan blades sheared off on my AC, called 8 different HVAC shops to purchase replacement blades. Every shop said they have blades but would not sell them to me, they had to do the repair in order to get the blades. 9th shop I call is Sanborns, I explain what I need and the Rep says, "come on down and if we don't have them in stock, we will order for you ASAP. I go down, hand over my blades to the Parts guy, he goes in back and comes out with the replacement blades. He happily said, "we will sell you the blades or if you'd like, we can install them for you, we just appreciate your business". Thank you Sanborns for such awesome customer service! Mark is an outstanding technician because he correctly diagnosis the problem, explains the work that is needed to repair it, the time it will take to repair it, what the total cost will be to resolve it, and he's always been able to make the repairs while he's there. What more would anyone want? He also has a charming accent, so if there's a word you missed, he'll pleasantly smile and say it again for your "ah, I understand, moment." Our air-conditioning unit started rattling and became unreliable in this awful August heat. We decided to call Sanborn's and was able to get a technician out quickly. They sent Matt, who arrived a little early, which was very welcomed in this stuffy house. He was able to diagnose the issue, almost immediately, and got right to work. He cleaned, and installed some new equipment and had the AC running in less than 45 minutes. Matt showed me what are you done, explained how it was the issue, and got us on a maintenance plan. My 94 year old mother is on an annual service plan with Sanborn's. Last week their tech came out to do the annual checkup and told her that the AC was not working. Tech gave her some mumbo-jumbo about what was wrong and said the parts would be covered under warranty (AC unit is only five years old) but the labor to fix it would be $4000.00.....are you kidding me??? Fortunately she called me to get some advise and I told her not to do anything till I could look into it. In the interim she called the owner of the company and told him she didn't have the money to fix it and he reduced the labor charge to $2400.00. I called another local HVAC company and the tech that came out did a thorough inspection and said THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE SYSTEM!!!! That's right...nothing wrong. Now this was after Sanborn's sold her a new AC unit five years ago that she didn't need and convinced her to put the highly inflated price on payments. By the way...she has been doing business with these $%%#% since 1960's. Bottom line...these guys are (in my opinion) unethical, immoral untrustworthy and should be avoided at all costs. read more

We have been with Sanborn's on a monthly plan for over 18 months. Every time they have come by, they seem to want us to spend a lot of money on replacing something or the other. I installed filters at a huge cost and have spent a lot of money on what they told me. A couple weeks ago, our system went down and Pete came over to our home. He saw that a fuse went out. He replaced the fuse and then told us that the entire condenser, furnace, coils etc need to be replaced ASAP. He told us that the entire system would go down again if not replaced. The total estimate was for $7500. We were under pressure and worried because of the ongoing heat wave and signed up because the system did go down as he had said. We were fortunate to not get started and one of our friends recommended a real engineer friend of theirs to come and take a look at our system. He ran a total complete check across every aspect of the system and found a faulty $40 capacitor that needed to be changed. It turns out that the faulty capacitor had tripped the electricity which caused the system to go down. He showed me everything in each part of the system. Changed the capacitor and the system runs absolutely well. I feel thoroughly cheated. I have now been told that if Pete shows up to your home, then you will end up giving up a lot of money on changing systems that don't even need to be changed. Because most people don't know enough, they are able to convince them to shell out a lot of money. I am sorry but you have lost a reliable client of yours. We will be closing our monthly subscription to your service. I would not recommend Sanborn's to anyone that I know at this point. This isn't just an emotional reaction, there is actually a rational validation that I know for sure now. read more

The water pump on my water/swamp cooler seized up n could not be fixed. The response time was very good. The technician came, diagnosed the problem n fixed it. The tech was on time, clean, neat and knew what he was doing. He also checked out the rest of the cooler. My only concern was the price of the replacement pump. I purchased a new air conditioning unit in 2019. They offer a one-year free maintenance on the AC. One of their technicians came out to do the free maintenance on the AC in 2020. However, Covid stopped them from doing second service. My sister needed a new AC, so I recommended Sanborn's. They finished installing her unit the other day. I happened to be at her house, and I mentioned that I wasn't able to get my second maintenance service. Their technician talked to Pete about it. So, Pete came out to my house and did the second maintenance for free. I was very impressed with their service, quality of work and professionalism. The quality of service was wonderful. He gave recommendations for the unit. provided suggestions regarding maintenance, warranty, and equipment.. I was very pleased with the work that they have done. read more

This company scammed my 85 year old mother. They replaced the thermostat and signed my mother up for a $197 membership fee. My mother had no idea and said the service man never discussed any membership with her. They did leave her with a quote for over $2,000 for supposed repairs that "should be done". She did not sign the proposal and received a phone call a week or two later stating that her parts were in and they need to schedule the work. We're working with the management now to get a refund for my mother. read more
