I recently had an event and needed someone to do my makeup. Due to shoulder surgery, I couldn't do my own and Sanctuary set me up for an appointment with Joan Cazaubon-Meitrodt. She was AMAZING! When I left the salon, my makeup was flawless. When I returned home from the event, about 8 hours later, my makeup looked as good as when I left the salon. Horrible experience. I went for my birthday with 3 others, we all had appointments at the same time. After everyone else went back on time-I finally we to the front desk to ask when I would be called back, she said she would check. Finally, I was called back 15 minutes later, the gal apologized and explained her hair appointment ran late. She was getting her hair done at work. She took me back for my 90 minute massage but it was anything but relaxing. She felt rushed, she was all over the place during my massage nothing was relaxing or even felt good. I was very disappointed, on top of that I got out and everyone else had been waiting for me for 15-20 minutes as we had plans for dinner. I mentioned to the front desk of my experience, and nothing was done about. I wasn't offered to speak to a manager or anything for feedback. Waste of money and TIME!!! read more

What a cute spot! I came here for a massage and body wrap prior to my wedding reception/party and was so pleased with ambiance and vibes. I wasn't sure what to expect of the space, and upon arriving, it seemed that it's split into two sections: the salon and the spa services. I checked in at the counter and was shown to the spa services side of the space. I loved the locker room area and the provided robes and amenities. I liked that they had printed info about the other offers they had going on - some great deals! I hung out in the comfy chairs in the waiting area before being called to my massage. My massage and wrap were great, and my massage therapist was responsive to my requests and preferences. I would definitely recommend and return to this space for a massage or wrap! read more

Excellent salon the lady I had took her time and was very patient and I was just coming in for a haircut.

I had a big in-person work thing coming up and I called around last minute to see if someone could cover my gray making me so self conscious. Cue: availability at this place. I'm not rich enough to go back, but I can't hate on them for my lack of asking more questions and sticker shock for services rendered. It's everything you expect a an Aveda associated salon to be: clean kept, cute and stylish, smells fantastic, professional prompt staff, and pretty expensive. Don't get me wrong - the lady I had was great and I'm absolutely happy with the services rendered but at $230+ (before tip!) for a full foil and cut, I will have to choose VERY wisely next time or budget much better. Also bummed I wasn't offer the new client service coupon on the website. So, make sure to check if the prices don't bother you PRIOR to making your appt - if not, you should be pretty happy with this location. read more

I went this place to this place for simple trim on the side. I am scared that the technician will mess up my hair. I guess the technician is new and have a lot to learn. I hope they give more training on so-called mock hairs before putting them on real customers. Going to try to keep this review objective. I scheduled an appointment for balayage and a root touch up. I came in with single-process brown hair and my inspiration photos were a dirty blonde lived-in balayage look. The stylist and I discussed the photos I showed and she said she thought she could get close. She chose to do foil highlights, starting at the top and leaving the back for last (important to note because the darkest part of my hair had the least amount of time to process and was still very dark and just ended up orange). I ended up with very warm, orange colored hair with splotches and lines throughout from poor blending. The stylist recommended that I come back in for a free toner that same week to "lighten" the dark parts of my hair (not how toner works). I ended up going to another salon to get it fixed, where I was informed that everything the original stylist had done was wrong to get to the look I was going for. I will rate 2 stars because the stylist was nice, professional and the salon is nice. I just will not be returning. read more

This time, the second time it happened, I waited 30 minutes before my stylist came out and said she needed another hour to complete another service before she could accommodate me. What's the point of making a reservation if you can't honor the reservation? Dishonest, sneaky and moneygrubbing - that's what I would say about this salon. Plenty of parking. Clean...the two at the front seemed very disinterested. We were handed keys to the changing room lockers. Peaceful and relaxing waiting area, nice ambiance. I had a fantastic deep tissue massage with an obviously very experienced individual, scalp massage add on was very relaxing with another individual. My girlfriend had a "skinny massage" with a "skinny wrap" add on. She was very appreciative of the person she worked with but not with the treatment. In a nutshell , individuals that perform the treatments were great! Front desk just ok, maybe a class on customer service would help? There is no question that the facility is beautiful. There were good and bad things A few things that could use improvement: - when you pull into the parking lot, you're greeted by gigantic garbage bins; - the wifi sucks; - there are greasy fingerprints all over in the ladies locker room, particularly on the dark restroom door; - greasy sandals; - the unisex relaxation room that is used for massage clients is way too cold; - the water with lemon that clients have access to was room temperature; - no one consistently goes around to pick up glasses, towels, etc. that are left behind; and - There was sand all over the floor in the ladies locker room. The things that I liked: - the Aveda tea that they offer and refill during your services; - the variety of Aveda products that are available for use during your visit; - everyone that I interacted with was friendly and professional; - the view from the mani/ pedi areas is pretty and relaxation inducing; - the facility itself is very nice and has a good, rich feel to it. It is well-decorated; and - the retail area had a nice variety and was clean/ well organized. I had a 60 minute massage with Teri ( I believe) that was pretty good. I was called back nearly 10 minutes late and she was finished about 5 minutes early netting a loss of 15 min to my massage. I know that happens on Saturdays especially but I would have appreciated it at least being acknowledged. Cassidy did my mani/ pedi and she was delightful. Cute, funny and did a very nice job. I will be back to see her. Overall, I think that the place has potential but I am still on my quest to find a spa in the twin cities that meets my needs. read more

I'm writing this review to talk about the experience I've had getting color done at this salon. I'm a 28 year-old teacher who just moved from the city in California to the suburbs in Minnesota this past year, so getting my bearings has been a little tricky. I wanted to find a place that did good color work and would be comfortable doing unique, unnatural colors, that wouldn't require me driving into Minneapolis. I've been to Aveda institutes before, so an Aveda salon seemed like a natural choice. My first appointment was with Jillian (sp?), and I asked for a cut and color. Simple, right? But the color I wanted was pink or purple, something fun, and a cut that would give some oomph to my fine-textured, very straight hair, as well as fix my bangs that a previous salon goofed up. Jillian was enthusiastic about doing a fun color, and was also very realistic about what my expectations should be: this kind of color doesn't last long, I'll have to be careful in my maintenance, and my best bet would be foils to bleach my hair lighter than the sandy brown it was. Ok, works for me! Let's do it! So she got to work on my foils, the toner, the cut, and was super friendly and professional the entire time. It was such a good experience that I almost didn't care how my hair turned out. Luckily though, it came out perfect! It was a lovely lavender shade with a silvery blonde underneath, and some of my natural color peeking through a little. I was IN LOVE with what she had done to it, and I was so grateful to have a stylist who loved doing fun and interesting colors. Of course, I haven't colored my hair in a long time, and I didn't take excellent care of it. It washed out pretty fast (as I was warned it would), but because she did such a nice job with the foils and everything, it washed out first to a soft cotton candy pink, then to a really cool ashy silvery color, that got just as much compliments as the purple! Still, I have engagement photos coming up, so I made a second appointment with her weeks later to refresh the color. Since there was some pink shade still in my hair from a temp color I put in it when it washed out, the same lavender shade came out PURPLE! It was fabulous! And this time, I've been taking much better care of it, and it is lasting beautifully. Overall, I am very happy with my decision to go to this salon and with Jillian as my go-to stylist. She knows her stuff with color for sure, and gave me a great cut. She recommended a lot of products to me and pointed me to some other products elsewhere to "top up" my color in between visits. I can't wait to go back in a few months to do another round of fresh color. If you want to do something unique in the 'burbs and want to know who you can trust, I recommend Aveda, and Jillian especially. It's going to run a little pricier, but it's worth it if you want it done right. read more

I had a couples massage scheduled here today as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday. I received a call this morning that one of the massage therapists couldn't make it in due to the snow, which I understand is no one's fault. However, when I asked if we would receive some kind of credit towards rebooking, the receptionist simply stated no. She said one of us could get a massage while the other got a facial (at full price). Sanctuary Salon, the whole point was to get the massage together. Your staff did not apologize for the inconvenience or the unlucky circumstances of the cancellation. At the very least you could have offered a mere $20 discount as an apologetic gesture for the circumstances. I have been to your spa before and expected better of your customer service. Joan is awesome! I always wear my hair straight. My hair is VERY curly and I was going to the western part of India in May of this year. It is very humid there and the temperature would go up to 100-120f. Joan recommended me that I should do Brazilian Blow Out before I left for India. (I have been going to Joan for my hair at Sanctuary Eden Prairie location for the last 8 years) It worked great! My hair stayed straight and I did not have to straighten my hair for at least a couple of day. I would recommend Joan to all the ladies who have curly hair and would like to enjoy straight hair in summer! Trust me it works!!! read more

Love this place. Relaxing woods to de-stress by and the people I see for my mani/pedis, facial and massages are amazing. I haven't seen them in 1.5 years due to the pandemic, but when face masks go away, I'll be making appointments again. I would give them five stars for the amazing experience, but their front desk staff and those who answer the phones need training. They are always brusk and rush you when trying to have questions answered or appointments made. They just come off as rude and entitled. read more

I loved being a client the past 5 yrs. Stylist Sarah cut my hair like the pro she is. I loved her customer service, and expertise. Loved Teresa for my massages; a gifted individual who takes time & care for your comfort. After 3 tries in the last year, spa manager Sarah finally responded to my worries about other clients using cell phones not only in the changing rooms, but bathroom, and waiting area where we try to relax before going into massage therapy rooms. She stated there are now signs in the locker rooms (in the last month) politely reminding folks to 'refrain' from using cell phones, but would not ban them in places where people are extremely vulnerable to voice, video, pictures without their knowledge. No thank you. I will be sad to take my business elsewhere, but need to where privacy and relaxation are truly respected. You may want to ask about their policy before being surprised, or worse. read more

I've been going here 20 years and I need to find someplace new. They are okay, expensive. The front desk people turn over all the time and are inexperienced and not terrifically service oriented. Many of their best stylists/service people have moved on so you are seeing less experienced people at the same high prices. The owner is not present at all. I was totally bamboozled. The cut by Jillian, no exaggeration, was less than 5 minutes. The foil effect I requested ( pictures shown for both) was not even close. Add on charged for a color service I was not told about or requested. My total bill was exorbitant. The scheduler did not tell me the fees or level of experience of the stylist, as her manager admitted is protocol. My fault for not asking, but in all the years of hair cut and color, and even with a "senior" stylist, I have never been charged so much. If I had felt that the color and cut were exceptional, I may have justified it as the cost of a great result, but they missed on both. They did offer a re-do, but it would be very awkward for me to return. Regrettably, I wish it had turned out right the first time. 08/25/Update: Really short hair now a pixie cut!! But Corrie saved my hair! All of the damage was cut out, she used the new Sap Moss line on my hair to breathe some life back into it, followed with some delightful deep conditioning treatments. I no longer have gummy silly string hair! I just need to baby it until I go back for a color on Wednesday, and I'll start looking like me again. Corrie is an amazing and kind person, she treated me with respect and made me feel so good about myself. She also gives you positive affirmations to remind you that you are beautiful and amazing. It's a mantra to hang onto! 08/23 I had a complete and utter hair fail with using a color remover. (Professional grade and no bleach too! 08/22) My hair turned to a gummy silly string on the ends! (I am sulfate and paraben free so not as a result of bad shampoo/conditioner) They squeezed me in for a consult, my stylist Corrie is amazing! She is so kind and understanding, as even our best intended experiments go awry. I'm headed back in tomorrow morning bright and early to get my ends cut, as the roots and shafts were fine, just dry. It's an utter nightmare to have hair turn into something unrecognizable as gummy silly string, it's hard to feel beautiful with patchy orange and yellow pale hair. Corrie helped me feel beautiful today and I felt like a human being in her eyes. Her kindness and gentle support assured me that I'm in good and well skilled hands. I bought a living social deal for this place and I was so excited to use it! This is a review for my massage. I walked in was about a minute later from my scheduled massage appointment time and the receptionist was new and it took her about 5-8 minutes to check me in and use my groupon- totally fine I know what it is like being new at your job. She was very pleasant. The woman administering my massage told me that due to the lateness getting started I would have to cut my massage short and we would end on time. I was a little taken back as to why she would greet me like that and the fact that I was late due to their inefficient check in. She told me she had another appointment right after so unfortunately we would end on time. So we end early and the massage was meh. Then I'm waiting for my haircut and I see her chatting it up at the front desk so much for the appointment after me she just didnt want to put in the work. I saw her there for about 20 minutes so there was clearly no appointment after me. Needs work on the customer service aspect. Disappointing experience. read more

On the outside Sanctuary looks like any old office building in the suburbs. On the inside, however, it's a totally different story. My first thought was yes, this place is a sanctuary. My second thought, is that I want whoever designed this to come desing my dreamhome. Swoon. Apparently they just completed a $1 million renovation. I don't know what it looked like before, but the after is breathtaking. I came here to treat myself to a little mini spa day and booked a detoxification package which includes a full-body mud mask, a luxurious soak in a bath followed by a heavenly massage. Everything about the treatment was super relaxing and professional. And as I am thinking again about the service I received, I'm bumping it up to a 5-star review. FIrst: the mud mask. It's delightfully messy. But what made it even more fun was the Steamy Wonder. Yes, you read that right. STEAMY WONDER. (The massage therapist says giggling, "Not to be confused with Stevie Wonder!") It's basically a tent that they put over your body while steam is pumped in so your body can exfoliate properly. Ohhhhh, it's amazing. PS for the claustrophophic, your head is not covered at all. I dozed off a bit because I was so relaxed. Nap #1. Then I moved to the soaking tub that was supposedly filled with detoxifying oils. I didn't notice anything in the tub, but didn't mind because I was so relaxed after the Steamy Wonder (heh). Nap #2. Finally, my day ended with a massage. I'm resisting making this review take a turn toward the darkside and am not going to end it on a happy joke. YA FEEL ME?! This massage was amazing, though. The right kind of pressure where it hurts but feels good at exactly the same time. Nap #3. I had to sit in the spa waiting room for 20 minutes or so because I was so relaxed that I wasn't sure I could drive. I drank lemon water and hung out for a few so-relaxed-I'm-kinda-dazed moments. Bliss. My only minor complaint is that I could hear entire conversations from the hallway when I was getting my relax on. I think I've decided that rather than having my (Barbie) dreamhome be designed like Sanctuary, that I'll just move right in. You guys wouldn't mind, would you? read more

I received a gift card to Sanctuary and booked an 80-minute massage for a Saturday morning. The receptionist who helped me schedule the day before was very pushy, as in asked me if I could come in within a matter of hours that same day. Weird, I thought, but she is just doing her job. When we started discussing availability for Saturday, she gave me 2 times (8am and 1:30pm). When I repeatedly pushed her for alternative times, two other spots "magically" opened up and I was able to get in with Tia at 10:30am. Overall, she was pushy, impatient and a little rude. I had been told to arrive 15 minutes early to my appointment, which I did, and was brought back to the locker room area to change into a robe and slippers before sitting in the waiting area for my service. Everything was nice, clean and comfortable, but my masseuse did not come to bring me back for my appointment until 10:42. It was a long wait with no apology or explanation for the delay, and nothing to do in the waiting area besides drink cucumber water (which was delish, but really, where are the magazines?) Tia, who was my masseuse, was incredible. I shared that I liked firm pressure and that I specifically had issues with my lower back. She gave me 3 scented oils to choose from during my massage and it was heavenly. Very relaxing, amazing massage! She even worked a knot in my back with her elbow - painful but glorious. I could not have been more pleased with my actual service. I could overhear some talking on the hallway during parts of my massage which was distracting, but all in all, not enough to get me to ask Tia to address it (though, you would think that massage rooms would be highly soundproof to ensure that the client stays in a total relaxed state.) Tia finished up my massage and sent me back to the locker room with cucumber water, where I saw that the time was only 11:54. So, my 80-minute massage was really more like 60 minutes. Maybe that is common practice to include the 10-15 pre and post massage as part of your booking. Seems like a bit of a rip off to me. Overall, the massage was 5 starts, absolutely. But the Sanctuary care staff did not impress me and I felt the service was absolutely overpriced for a 60 minute massage ($85 for service by an entry level masseuse, plus tax, plus $15 tip put the total at $122 and some change) which is why I have to give it only 2 stars. Hopefully they can hire better employees in the future, after all, your welcome and reception staff have the most important job at leaving a good first impression! read more

Now I honestly have only been here for waxes, due to me being a creature of habit, so this review is more so for Christine. After a long search for the perfect brows after the previous place had messed them up so badly, I finally found an angel of a person...Christine! She always does a phenomenal job and is so personable. It also helps that the girls and guys at the front desk always greet you by name and are so courteous. After waiting for a while they then told me the stylist they had scheduled me with wasn't going to be available for another 45 minutes as she was seeing a client. I've only been here a couple of times for services, both for massages with Michaela. This trip I took advantage of the 50 minutes for $50 deal that was offered, a really good deal in my opinion. I can't rave about Michaela's skill enough. She's extremely pleasant and certainly knows her craft well. She takes time to learn a little bit about your lifestyle and where you problem areas are. I lead a very active lifestyle and do a number on my body with a high amount of regularity, so the deep tissue that Michaela obviously specializes in, is exactly what I need. I've had this type of massage from numerous others, but I don't think any really compare. Just one day removed and I feel more mobile and overall better than before going in. I would highly recommend seeing her regardless of your activity level. You'll be glad you did. read more

Like most women, I am very particular about my hair! When I moved to this area, I was apprehensive about finding a new hair stylist. I was lucky and found Kasie at the Sanctuary! She did an outstanding job and the cut/color went above and beyond my expectations. Those few hours in the chair can be rather boring but she made it relaxing and fun! One of the other things I enjoyed about my experience was the serene atmosphere and the cozy fireplace. The name of the salonspa definitely does it justice! I have not received any spa treatments yet but that's next on my list! I got a tour of the spa area and I cannot wait to set up my next appointment! read more
