Service was great fast, efficient, food was good. It was a great pit stop after a day at the beach! Has your typical bar snacks and food. Some of the guests were obnoxious for a random weekday afternoon. They were walking around the dining area annoying the waitress but to no fault of hers. She was still great and efficient with us. I needed to get a lake perch sandwich, so a couple buddies and I headed to Sand Bar. I had been here a few years ago, and was happy to be back. In addition to the sandwich, which was spot-on, and came with a fantastic roll, and what we surmised was probably homemade tartar sauce, we got the sauerkraut balls, and the fried cheese curds. These are two side items that need to be on way more menus, as they were absolutely perfect. The whole meal was exactly what we were looking for, the place was busy but not overcrowded, and our waitress was really friendly and attentive. Came here in at 7:45pm on a weekday with my wife and 2 children and was instantly told that we could not eat there because the kitchen was closed even though another couple walked in 5 mins before us while my wife and I were getting the kids out of the car. It was surprising because I'm a local and know the kitchen closes later than that (10pm I believe). Was just upsetting to see after a long, hot beach day to be turned away ONLY because the couple who walked in right before us were served. read more

Here in Huron for 4 days. Today is our first day. We stopped at Sand Bar for lunch on our way to Nickel Plate Beach. We parked in front of the building, but weren't positive if it was even open, as it was very dark inside. We went in and placed a takeout order at the bar. There were two waitresses there, both seemed bored and annoyed. They were very brief and to the point. They were even talking about previous customers right in front of us. The food took about 10 minutes. We got a Philly steak sandwich and a hot Italian sandwich. They were smaller than expected for the price but both tasted really good. The sauce on the hot Italian sandwich was delicious! I would recommend replacing the Lay's chips with homemade chips. I think it would be a much better menu item for guests. Nonetheless, I would eat here again if given the chance as I have no complaints about the food. read more

Great atmosphere after a long day. The service was on point. We ordered wings for the kids, the angus burger and the perch dinner. The perch dinner was fresh and cooked to perfection. The burger was great with all the fixings. The kids loved the wings and tater tots. The adults enjoyed 32oz beers on tap which were a great value for the amount paid. We came here on a suggestion from my mom. We started off with the Artichoke Dip which was one of the best I have ever had. We then got the rosemary pizza, and added tomato. Also good. This pizza comes with a side of pesto. The only downside is that the place is on the small side and is very busy in the summer. We got seated right away, but it was a weekend evening around 6pm in the winter/spring time. Prices are good, lots of menu options besides their much praised pizzas. I got the stuffed cabbage rolls and they were frozen. Thought we would try it out, it was horrible. Stick to the bar food and not meals

We went there and ordered the sauerkraut balls and the perch and pierogis. All of it was excellent!!! Sooooo, the next day we went back and got the pretzels and beer cheese and the perch and pierogis. Once again everything was excellent. They have your standard options but also some unique ones. I really want to try their Goulash next time. It's a special so its only offered on the specials menu. The service was fast and friendly. It's a really good place to eat. read more

I had a great experience here. Last October I flew to New Jersey from Chicago to buy a used car. On my return drive home, I planned finding a restaurant that served fried Lake Erie Yellow Perch. Those who live near Lake Huron may not think this is a big deal, but since I live in Chicago, you cannot get this here. In fact, it is nearly impossible to find any Lake Perch in Illinois. I showed up on a Monday afternoon around 2:00 and the regulars sitting at the bar made me feel at home. I ordered a perch basket and it was absolutely fantastic. I cannot say anything for anything else on the menu as all I wanted was the perch. For a fish fry, I highly recommend the Sand Bar. read more

People in Erie County used to be either Sand Bar people, or Marconi's people, when it came to pizza. We were Marconi's people, but when I was out drinking with high school friends, we'd occasionally get Sand Bar pizza. You had to go down in the dark, off-the-beaten path part of Huron to find this bar tucked away near the docks and shore. The pizzas were big, sprawling things with lots of cheese and toppings. It was like a trip to the dark side for me. I was always happy to retreat to the security of Marconi's, but in a few months I was always ready to flirt with danger again. read more

Nice little sports bar off the beaten path. My parents are from the area, and my grandparents still live in Huron. Every time we visit the town, Sand Bar is always within the itinerary. This place is a bit of a local dive in Huron, and we love it! We come here every summer at least once when we're in town. The location is great, right by Nickelplate Beach. Their pizzas are phenomenal (try the chicken ranch pizza) and their Lake Erie perch basket is also a fav. There are daily specials too so check out the chalk board! The worst experience for dining! It was 50 degrees outside and the indoor air conditioning was blasting. Requested they turn it off to no avail. Switched seats to no avail. Advertised as Great Lake perch on the menu. I don't know what kind of fish it was but it was tasteless and undercooked. Fries had been sitting for too long. Nothing special about the coleslaw.
