We ended up eating here 2 days in a row! I chose this restaurant for our Saturday night dinner because the specials on the board out front and the dessert list looked great, and they were. Saturday night was pretty popular and the patio was full, so we sat inside, which is why our photos were rather dark. We started with a round of drinks. I had a glass of rose. Note that the drinks menu is several pages longer than the food menu, with beer, wine, and a variety of specialty and standard cocktails. They also have an espresso bar. It wasn't on the menu, but we ordered the Street Corn dip from the specials board on the sidewalk. We got a nice sized serving, and it was very good. I had the za'atar roast chicken for my entree, and it was delicious! The chicken comes with a lemon yogurt sauce, and Fattoush salad, but the salad was kind of a cross between Fattoush and tabbouleh, with pita chips and a grain base. It was a great combo, and the chicken was very juicy and seasoned nicely. I ended up with a slice of the almond cake, which was moist and had sliced almonds on top. Very much needed after missing out in the ice cream stop this afternoon! One of my friends had a bowl of gumbo and the other one had the taco pie. Since everyone enjoyed their dinner, and we confirmed that the patio was dog friendly, we returned with Miss Pup for brunch. We were able to snag a patio seat with a super friendly server. Miss Pup mostly hung out under the table, but managed to convince some other diners to pet her. We went with some plates for the table - Chicken and Waffle, Chilaquiles, and the special Quiche, which had sundried tomatoes, bacon and feta. All 3 portions were just right for us. The chicken was really moist and the waffle had slightly crispy edges. It came with some fruit and syrup. The quiche slice was generous and it came with a large portion of salad with a fruity vinaigrette. The sundried tomatoes were a really fun addition! I chose the chilaquiles. I'm pretty sure the chips were fried fresh (the ones last night were not), and I liked that it had beans and pico on top! This dish did not contain enchilada sauce, it was more like breakfast nachos, but I really enjoyed it. Phenomenal, no other words describe our experience! The food was delicious, they literally put thought into every detail of the dishes. We had both dinner and brunch here, we all got different meals so we got to try a little bit of everything. Oh and don't even get me started on the ice cream, the Mexican hot chocolate flavor was to die for!! So good we ended up there two nights in a row. We were there after the high season and it was largely locals at the outdoor bar, so it had a friendly feel to it. We enjoyed lamb stew, Arctic char, chicken pot pie, and the chicken sandwich. They have a few nice local beers on tap to wash those down. Service is impeccable. We arrived here for a late lunch on a Friday. We were greeted immediately. Our waiter was very attentive and did not keep us waiting. We ordered cocktails and the cheese board to start. The cheese selection was really quite good. I wasn't sure what to expect, but they definitely put in effort and it wasn't slapped together. Our cocktails were really refreshing and they had some creative choices available. My husband got the chicken sandwich and I got the bison burger with fries. The sandwiches were both very good and their fries were noteworthy for fries!! We haven't been to Kelley's Island for many many years. The last time we were here we went to this restaurant and it was nice to see that it was still thriving and did not disappoint after all these years! Nice little gem on the island. Out of my 3 day trip to Kelley's Island, Island House was the best meal. *it is worth noting that we went for brunch only" We sat at the bar outdoors. The bartender was very attentive the entire time filling up coffee and water. I ordered the banana French toast and it was excellent. Light, fluffy, and filling. My girlfriend ordered the quiche and said it was delicious too. Her fresh squeezed orange juice was also very good, though understandably does not have free refills. Not many places on the island offer a breakfast like that, and none are that good for sure. read more

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Kelleys Island House. The portions were modest which suits us perfectly as we are older. The food and service was excellent. The sauces for each of our dishes were perfect in their flavor, freshness and simplicity. My wife had the soup du hour which was a chilled Thai cucumber and melon and then piri piri. The shrimp came with a wonderful butter, lemon and garlic broth and perfectly toasted bread. I had scallops with squash noodles, mint, slivered almonds and saffron aioli. All was delicious and reasonably priced (especially for an island). Kudos to the chef and our server Natalie. We will be back next time on the Island! read more

The village pump was packed last night so I checked yelp. This place had the best reviews so I figured I'd give it a go. I sat outside. The greeter was extremely pleasant. She indicated you pick your own seat. I picked one outside. Great quality furniture and umbrellas. I saw some locals I had met earlier. Ah ha! I found the good place here. The menu was a perfect size. I asked for a painkiller (they didn't have i) and the suggested a their Singapore Sling. It was a great suggestion and they said the lime juice was made on site. Great during great price. Next up I got the bison burger. I had never had bison before but I knew order one step more rare than normal. I got it with blue cheese. I got it with the seasoned fries looked like salt and pepper but it tasted better than that. The Bison was amazing. Perfectly cooked. A small portion but it was just the right amount of food. My server was a guy that just started working there a few days earlier. Everyone I dealt with was great and the food was super. Looks like I won't be worrying about the Village pump anymore. Brace yourself in that there are not a lot of 'high end' dining on the island - way more casual than anything but this place is 'the' place if there was one. The burger is AMAZING with fries - very gourmet like. Their service is prompt, friendly, fun, sociable and people congregate. We took a day trip up to this tourist island, paying the EXORBITANT ferry fee to do so. Based on Yelp reviews, we decided to have lunch here. Some previous reviews gave this place 5 stars, BUT some were one shot wonders and another had only one previous review, so they were somewhat suspect. I think some have now been removed. Having said that, we liked the place. We could have eaten outside, but it was hot so we opted for the bare table high tops in the bar. Five of the seven of us had the lobster rolls and they were quite good; delicious, in fact. I think this is their specialty. The lobster had been frozen, of course, but it was still nicely prepared on toasted hot dog rolls. The fries that came with it were fat & soggy. Overall, a fun place. My husband and I escaped for a nice relaxing weekend on Kelleys Island and we kicked things off right with an amazing dinner at Kelleys Island House Restaurant. Food: We started with the calamari and this is a must-have appetizer as far as I'm concerned. The spicy and sweet Thai-version of this dish was out of this world. The lobster sandwiches were another huge success. Two buns piled high with lobster and a side of clarified butter - how can you miss? My husband took a bite of the lobster sandwich and exclaimed to our server "Why did you bring me this butter! It doesn't even need it!"...Silly boy. Just try the butter. He quickly recanted his statement and clearly misjudged the magical power of butter. Drinks: This is a martini bar and the very nature of the beast is to make a quality cocktail. So bar service may be a bit slower, but the end result is well worth it! They call it island time for a reason! I tried a cucumber martini and the Thai-Tonic (gin, lemongrass and basil and a few other things I can't remember (imagine that)) and both were made with care and were perfect summer cocktails - light and refreshing, with a nice kick of course. Service: Our bartender Mike was amazing. Truly the best service we've had in months and made our experience memorable, on top of the phenomenal food and drinks. I did get the impression that not all the bar staff was up to snuff (as I overheard a server come in and ask what was in a Sea Breeze), but we were there at the beginning of the season, so many of them had only started working there in the past three weeks (similar to the rest of the island). Atmosphere: We sat inside at the bar as the wind off the lake was too strong to sit outside, although next time we'll be sure to check out the patio area as it looked really cool with an outdoor bar. Interior of the place wasn't my personal style and felt a bit dated (even though they are going for a modern feel with funky mirrors and unique glass pieces on the tables). Price: Bottom-line, this place is a great value! We spend many summer weekends at Kelleys Island and decided to give the Island House another try this past weekend. We got a perfect shaded table on the patio and ordered drinks and appetizers. Perfect! The Saturday night special was the prime rib dinner, the queen cut or king, with potatoes and green beans. We were there right at 6:00 when the special dinner became available so we figured we would get an amazing piece of the roast. We husband ordered medium rare and I ordered medium. We were both extremely disappointed. The color itself was almost a gray shade, both cuts were the same temperature, and there was zero flavor. The side of horseradish was the only thing that created any taste. I left so dissatisfied that I eventually made it to another dining establishment and ordered something tasty and satisfying. This is such a beautiful restaurant with a perfect patio and in a great location, but I mostly likely will not be back to dine again, except for a drink at the nice fire pit table. I would definitely suggest to remove the prime rib until the chef can ensure a flavorful cut of meat to serve. On the other hand, our server, Alex, was great and super attentive. read more

This guy knows how to cook! The burger we had was perfect 5 stars and the salmon with the curry sauce was to die for. We had some really tasty signature drinks and wish we would have gotten a bottle of champagne because the food was really that good. Prices were reasonable too. The service was especially nice. We later saw our waitress in a shop down the street, she remembered us and was like r u guys havin a good time on the island? She was sweet. Best place on the island, we will be back for sure. We came here kind of late after recovering from some day drinking and they were about to close the kitchen. Luckily, the waitress squeezed our orders in. I got the spaghetti Bolognese and it was so unique, in a good way! Huge portion, I only ate about half, but i was already pumped for what a great leftover meal it'd make. My husband got the bone in pork chop with mashed potatoes and it was also very well prepared, pork chop nice and juicy. They have an outdoor bar area and the OSU game was on so it had gathered a big crowd. I like that the restaurant is an old house. I get the vibe that it's one of the nicer dining choices on the island, but they can also entertain for a game like the night we went. read more

We had a GREAT experience on 8/1! There was a short wait for an outside table, so we had drinks at the bar. I had the peanut butter cup martini and IT ROCKED MY WORLD! They make it with their homemade peanut butter vodka-- WOWZA, delicious!! My husband had the IPA and loved it. We enjoyed our meals, too. Grilled chicken, and fresh farro island salmon. Cutest spot on the island for a relaxing, chill, comfortable, cozy atmosphere with an island vibe. Friendly staff, delicious food, creative drinks, a terrific draft beer selection, and cute decor. Love the patio, with the fresh herbs, modern rustic tables, and big umbrellas. We got the fish tacos and a salad that had a really good lemon dressing, and also the buttermilk chicken sandwich with fries. We were pleased with our meals. The appetizer of calamari was really good. The sauce was tasty, and it was good quality calamari. We also got an ice cream trio: beet/goat cheese/pistachio, avocado/kiwi, and roasted strawberry balsamic. All three flavors were so unique and awesome! The strawberry was our favorite. LOOKING FOR A GREAT PLACE TO STAY ON KELLEYS? THE ISLAND HOUSE IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!! My wife and I were looking to get away for our 10th anniversary and we decided to go to Kelleys for a nice weekend away from the mainland. I called about five different places to stay on the island, but only Bridgid at the Island House called me back. I booked a room for the weekend and we were literally only looking for a place to sleep and reconnect. We got so much more!!!!! When we arrived, Bridgid (who is also the bartender at the outside bar) welcomed us so warmly, it felt like we were long lost friends. Her demeanor and attitude put us immediately at ease and we went to our room to unload our bags and went back down to have a few cocktails. The decor of the outside bar was funky and hip, and the staff was so accomodating and friendly. We were blown away at the friendliness and warmth that we received. After a few cocktails (try the peanut butter cup martini--Bridgid makes the peanut butter vodka herself; try the Mooney--gin, gin, gin and Sprite), we went downtown and had a great time. The Island House is located about a block from downtown and all of the bars and attractions that Kelleys has to offer. The Village Pump, Bag the Moon, The Buckeye Bar (don't miss the party on game days!!!!). All are within a short walk of the Island House. We made our way back to The Island House and to our room. The bed was amazingly comfortable, the pillows were actual pillows and the water pressure in the shower was very good. We totally lucked in to The Island House. We will not luck in again. We will never stay anyplace else when we go to Kelleys. Totally worth the price. read more

Very disappointed in our dining experience here given the high ratings. Service was extremely slow. The restaurant refused to split checks for our group. The food was very underwhelming. We had a pork ragu dish that was extremely stingy with the meat and the pasta quality was poor. We also ordered a dish with a salmon spread and salad, which was pretty good. The best part of the meal was the selection of interesting ice creams. However, given our experience, the experience was not really worth the price or extremely long dinner service. read more

BEST meal we had on our August 2011 trip to Kelleys Island! We ate at several of the most popular restaurants in the main "downtown" area, and everybody loved the food here best! It was SO good - from the burgers to duck fat fries to calamari to Mac & Cheese to Caesar salad. We ate outside and loved the ambiance of the patio. We had our three kids, and they loved the food, too. I will definitely be eating here again when we return next year and HIGHLY recommend a meal (or two or three) if you're on the island. read more

Beer and wine list and bar menu. The appetizer sampler was nice, with good selection of smoke salmon and olive dips, cheese, meat and pita. The salmon was well prepared with very nice sides.
