I read all the other reviews and just to be fair, I found my room clean and tighty. The negatives: small rooms, bare bones accommodations for the price, no AC, my room was outdated other than the flat screen tv. The lamp by my bed did not have a knob to turn it on so i grabbed a pair of pliers from my truck to make it work ($.50 purchase for the hotel, or just replace the lamp with a Wal-Mart special for $10). The unfortunate thing is, there are no other hotels other than the new Pier South Resort across the street ( $300 a night). I think they had a monopoly and still do if your looking for a room under $150. Location is fantastic. I guess you can consider that you paid $100 for a crappy room, now you have $200 left over to eat and drink at the Pier South's Sea 180° . Maybe you'll drink enough you won't care about your room.

The only reason it gets one star is because the location was great! Other then that, this was the worst place I could ever imagine staying. It was dirty, smelly and the staff gave me cleaning supplies. There was also spiders! Unfortunately there was no availability across the street to stay, or we would have left. Do not even consider staying here for your family's safety. My daughter got bitten in the face by a spider and because of the dirty room, she got MRSA. Yes, the flesh eating bacteria. There was blood underneath one of the pillow cases, the floors were dirty and I cleaned them. There were also ants all over the bath tub! And the toilet upon arrival, had puke on the lower part of it. Worst of all, the management did not seem to care. I hope they get it together, because this place has a lot of potential. It could be quite charming.

We stayed here for 2 days with my family the penthouse is very big and has a full kitchen. If u plan on apartment type this is it but a full hotel type no. Bring beach towels for sure. Nice staff but very loud neighborhood and lots of transients beach was good right across the motel. No a.c. but lots of Windows

    Corner of room walls.

The beach had been closed to swimming while we had attended. We did not see this listed anywhere on the Bonvoy Marriout Website when we made the reservation. However, it apparently there is an area on their personal hotel webpage in which you can click an external link to check area beach conditions. They had offered some breakfast coupons to utilize during our stay to compensate for the lack of ocean swimming. They did not need to, it was not their fault that the beach had been polluted by southern waste being deposited in the ocean. However, the restaurant, that was really tasty! The food was quite delicious! There is a local coffee shop next door, not too many other options that were open at the end of June while we were there for meals.

The ocean views were absolutely breathtaking, and the hot tub was the perfect place to unwind. There were also plenty of delicious food options nearby, which made the stay even better. Without a doubt, my favorite part of the trip was the rooftop Paint & Sip. Whoever came up with that idea is an absolute genius! Painting while listening to great music as the sun set over the ocean was such an incredible experience. The weather was perfect, and the entire evening was a total vibe. Our instructor, Emeli, was amazing, she made everyone feel like a true artist, no matter their skill level. We did experience a small hiccup when we first arrived due to a system glitch that wasn't the hotel's fault, but Aaliyah and the manager, Hammie, went above and beyond to take care of us and make everything right. Their kindness and excellent customer service truly stood out. From the friendly staff and great accommodations to the beautiful views and unforgettable experiences, this resort made my birthday so special. I can't wait to come back for another stay. I'd absolutely give this place a 10/10. Thank you for helping make my birthday one to remember!

Sand Castle Inn is definitely in the latter category. Our room was small, but not restrictively so. The decor was in a Santa Fe style, with terracotta tiles with a smell that reminded me of my childhood living in a beach town, spending time at friend's pools. And the furnishing was sparse, but still adequate for our needs for a one night stay. As long as you're not looking for a 5-star experience on the cheap, you should be satisfied. As for any negative impressions, any photos you see on their website are likely not going to be what you get in your standard room. About the only thing that matched expectations was our bathroom (which was quite nice). The exterior was a bit lacking, with most furniture suffering from age and exposure and the walls in need of repairs in many spots. And there's no on-site management team, meaning any issues you might have has to be rectified through phone calls and texts; this can be less than ideal if you have any problem greater than missing towels or soap. Still, for the cost, Sand Castle Inn & Suites was about as good as we could have expected. If you go in knowing the limitations and extent of what you are paying for, you probably won't be too disappointed and come away satisfied.

The pools were easily accessible, clean, and surrounded by many available chairs. Our room was pretty clean, and stocked with your regular amenities. My one criticism is that the customer service was a hit or miss. While at the pool, my husband and I were curious about opening hours for the pool restaurants/bars, and as we approached two staff members near the pool, they were engaged in conversation and completely ignored us for a few minutes. It almost felt like we were interrupting their conversation (which was not related to work, from what we could hear). This experience was a bit off putting considering we had just arrived to the hotel. The pool server that attended us was nice and attentive. The second off putting experience was at valet as we were leaving the hotel. The valet attendant looked frazzled and sternly told us our car would be brought out in 7-10 minutes. Our car was brought out after 30 minutes. I can understand how (especially during check out times) the wait time can be delayed for valet, and this would have been reasonable had we been told early on it would take a while before our car was brought out. The staff member who eventually brought our car out was SUPER helpful and apologetic about the whole experience. We appreciated his help very much. I would come back to the Gaylord again, but not sure if I would stay another night. I guess for the price that we paid, I sort of expected smooth and flawless customer service. Aside from this, my husband and I enjoyed our stay here.

There could have been some enhancements that would have elevated this space even further. This location has tons of potential. That's why I'm giving it five stars. It almost seems as the concept was rushed and not well thought out. The open concept and extreme use of sunlight is nice but it's also hot. We did come during the damn heat wave haha but even considering that, on a very sunny day, it's still gonna be a little hotter in the lobby. There should have been a way to provide shade if needed. I'm usually a person that runs cold as well. It didn't really bother me too much but I could see it being a problem with others. They need better circulation in the lobby, especially by the bar, I know the bar tenders are hot! I haven't stayed here and I don't know if I would. I am going to come back and use resort pass to come for a swim tho! If this is your vacation spot and you're wanting to do many things while staying in SD, why would you stay here and complain of the lack there of? There are many ways to find out places that better fit your narrative while traveling. This seems like a great place to come back for a girls day or even time by yourself. We had a drink at the bar Oeste. I do recommend the charcuterie and the drink prices are great! I should have taken a pic of this cute lil cactus chair they had in the lobby! The lobby is very pretty and I think that's what many take for granted but not me. I wish it would have been an even longer lobby space for the community. They also should have collaborated with local food chains, I don't really like In and Out but it's a Cali staple and there needs to be more food options. Who's too say there won't be more food options and other things in the future.
