A delightful spot for breakfast! I stopped in based on the Yelp reviews I read and was not disappointed. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and asked if I had been there before, since it was my first visit it was explained that everything is basically cafeteria style unless you want to order some fried eggs. There were some specials and I went with the bacon, Brussels sprout and cheddar cheese omelet ....added some hash browns and fresh fruit. Delish! There is space to eat outside but I sat inside in the kitschy dining area - it is a fun space that makes you feel you are in someone's home ...from another era maybe, but tongue in cheek cute. read more

I have been wanting to try Sand Dollar for a while, but just kept passing it by. This past Sunday morning we were in PSJ and decided to to drop into Sand Dollar. I kid you not, it was hands down the best breakfast I've had in the area. First off when we walked in we were greeted by at least 3 or 4 staff working; they were so polite and showed us the foods they had available that morning with explanations of what the items were. It was great getting a visual. My daughter had the homemade monkey bread and fruit; which I also enjoyed from her plate. It was very fresh and delicious. I had an egg casserole that was super delicious with a side of the best hashbrown casserole I've ever had. I thought they were going to have to wheel me out I ate so much. I highly recommend doing breakfast at the Sand Dollar if you are in Port St Joe. read more

Great service! The waitresses were friendly and helpful describing the dishes available. It's a cafeteria style service, with plates that include entrees of the day, 2 sides, bread and a drink at great prices. You can also choose just an entree without sides as well. Our group had shrimp and grits, blackened mahi, the beef meatloaf and cube steak. The cabbage and beans were cooked perfectly, and the Mexican cornbread, very tasty. There is also a breakfast served in a similar style. Portions were generous and drinks were refillable. We haven't seen quality food at these prices in Port St. Joe! read more

Plan on coming again tomorrow, every time I'm in town I always stop by this place. The food is fresh and amazing and well priced and if you come during popular hours there will always be a line since everyone knows! Thankfully it'll be a short wait since the food is served cafeteria style on your plate. The sides are always awesome too, and you choose wherever you want to sit. Driving along Monument Avenue on the way to St. George Island, we found the Sand Dollar Cafe. The front has a cozy look that drew us inside. Upon entering, we were greeted with friendly and helpful service. The gal at the door explained how things worked -- all home-cooked and ready to go. The Sunday special was Crab Cakes with Remoulade -- there was also a vegetarian option as well a meaty one. We both said, sign me up for the Crab Cakes special! We got to choose two sides from a good variety. Went with the mashed potatoes and garlic Brussels Spouts. In addition to the two sides, the meal comes with a drink too. Once the friendly owner/manager/not sure which or either dished us up, we also purchased a brownie for dessert. The dining area has pictures of the family (and perhaps friends) as well as celebrity shots (you're represented Lucille Ball!). Again, the staff checked in on us a few times. We were delighted to have found this place and while I straddle that line between wanting to keep things Hidden Gems vs letting others know about these unique places, I've erred on the side of the former. This place is historically the absolute best breakfast and lunch spot in the area. It's a must visit for us when staying at Mexico Beach a couple of times a year. We were so bummed that they were closed (on vacation) when visiting after Labor Day. However the staff does an exceptional job so hope they are enjoying their well-deserved time away. There was only ONE place I had to go while we were in PSJ, and it was here. I have heard amazing things about the food, so our first day down here before we went to get groceries, we came here first! As soon as I saw Shrimp and Grits on the menu, it was over. I got that, along with the cream corn and green beans. My fiancée got the smothered chicken, the Mac and cheese, and the green beans. Outstanding. The shrimp to grit ratio was perfect and the cream corn rivaled my grandmother's, and I always say hers is the best. The green beans had a kick to them, and I was in love. Service was fantastic, everyone was as sweet as could be, and we were sad to leave. Will DEFINITELY be back on our next trip down here! read more

It's right on the main strip, extremely kind gentleman explained you order 1 meat and 2 sides comes with roll and drink, I got shrimp and grits which was great, also Mac and cheese and the best carrots ever! Owner is a little unhinged, passive aggressive and rude. Let a constructive criticism review on google and you can tell they immediately take issue and personally attack any negative feedback. Even if it's merited to them being rude and a customer leaving an honest review. This is the review I left and attached photos of the responses ( since they think they can say rude stuff on the internet then change their mind later..) "bland and underwhelming lunch lady / cafeteria style serving. I'm sure the owner will respond some passive aggressive style response like they did serving me in line asking a question about what the food is. Eggs should be cooked when ordered not in a steam sauce pan to heat up. This is a very cute local joint right on the main highway into town! Stopped here before work and breakfast is a al crate style! I tried the biscuit gravy (both types where delicious), a Denver egg back, and sausage patty. Left with a full, satisfied belly for about 10 dollars! In town for the 2019 Forgotten Coast Sea Turtle Festival and decided to eat downtown. Most of the restaurants are not open on Sundays so Sand Dollar was packed. The line to be served moved relatively slowly and the menu is Southern Comfort Food. There were adequate choices and no table service is available. They DO come around and refill drinks and ask if anything is needed. After choosing your protein and 2 sides you make a drink selection and pay. There is a table where iced teas, lemonade and other drinks are free to refill. They do carry bottled drinks as well. The food and service was good overall, nothing to write home about. The Fish House restaurant and adjacent marina waterfront was destroyed by hurricane Michael, both of which were in our original lunch plans :-) The locals say most of the debris was only recently removed. So come pay a visit to the Forgotten Coast where your dollars spent locally really help. read more
