Experience photo for Seekers of the Shard: Dragonfire

We had an amazing time at Sandbox VR! I've used PlayStation VR and Oculus before, but never in a full group setting. This took things to a whole new level. Once we were geared up, it truly felt like stepping into another world. They offered several adventures, but we chose Seekers of the Shard since it lets you hack through enemies with melee combat and cast spells. It was surprisingly active, lots of movement and swinging, so it doubled as a fun little workout! As a bonus, they send you a highlight video of your session at no extra cost, which is such a great keepsake. Can't wait to go back and try the other experiences!

So. Much. Fun. We got to experience this cool place tonight at a Yelp! Elite event. My friend and I arrived somewhat early and got to be in the first group to have an experience. Thankfully I was able to get the others in our group to NOT do a zombie related experience so we agreed on Squid Game! They gave us anklets and bracelets to strap on and a vest that rumbled / vibrated at times. Then a VR mask that fit over my glasses and a headset over that. The instructions were clear and our room host was Kristen. She helped us get setup and settled in with the rules. Then let the games begin! 40-45 minutes of almost an aerobic workout punching and grabbing and ducking and swatting and laughing and dying before coming back to do more. There was even a great breeze in the room to keep us cool. I'm just surprised how sweaty I was after! So much fun! Afterwards, you get to cool off (from the workout) and watch a video of your scores and actions in the lobby area. It was Hilarious. I've since looked up the pricing and at ~$60 + tax per person, this would be a great group activity for a bachelor or bachelorette party for folks who don't drink, a birthday party, youth group, or family get-together/reunion. Def recommend this experience. They do have a family/children friendly experience to choose from too.

I agree with other reviewers that you'll get warm in the safety gear. I chose to wear the plastic glove liners too, so my hands got very sweaty. Unfortunately, we were one of the last slots of the day and Smash Lab ran out of electronics to destroy before we got there. They offered us more glass items to smash instead. One thing to note is that you can bring your own items to smash- glass bottles, electronics, whatever. I also recommend putting together a playlist before you get to Smash Lab because you get to connect your phone to your smash room speaker.

We booked the Heavy Group Smackage for up to six people, which was supposed to include 50 glass breakables, 2 small electronics, and 2 large electronics. Which part of me didn't understand for the price that we paid, but I'm glad we were given that opportunity for reasons I will share below. When we got into the room, it was already cluttered with leftover debris from previous groups, which immediately made it feel unprepared and rushed. On top of that, the room wasn't set up with any of our items when we arrived (the employee was sitting in her car when we got there), so we lost a noticeable portion of our paid time waiting for things to be brought in--meaning we didn't actually get the full 50 minutes we paid for. The biggest letdown was the item selection: their idea of "two small electronics" was literally two computer mice, which feels misleading at best. The large items--a TV and a PC tower--were acceptable, but that was about it. We did get a selection of glass items in a tote, but they were all pretty small and we had to set them up ourselves. If we hadn't brought several of our own larger items, there's no way we would have had enough to entertain 6 people for the allotted time, let alone feel like we got our money's worth. There was also nothing useful to set items on--just an old tire--making the setup awkward and frustrating (other facilities have platforms of varying sizes). Overall, for $160, this felt like a very poor value and not at all what was advertised. A rage room should feel stocked, intentional, and stress-relieving--not like you're paying to finish off someone else's leftovers. I wouldn't book this package again unless they seriously improve the setup and item quality.

We all loved the interactive games and had a great time. We literally didn't want our session to end. How it works is that you pay for a session, and then you can pick from several different rooms during that time with different hands-on challenges. You make your way from room to room, completing the challenges and competing against each other. I think there is a scoreboard somewhere to tell you who got the most points, but honestly, who cares? It's fun to just move your body and challenge your mind and body. Before you begin, you're encouraged to put all of your things in a locker, and I definitely recommend putting any sweaters or hoodies in there, as well as phones, if you think you might go HAM. This is definitely a workout! The people who work here are very kind and patient, and explained everything to us along the way. Not participating and just spectating is also an option, and you won't be charged. There are TV screens outside of each game room, so you can see what's happening and take some photos, if you want. This is definitely a great way to spend an hour or two with older kids, and I could see this being a hit as a birthday party destination.

It's a ropes course, and the course is pretty small, and you're not really going into the cavern, which is a bummer. They do have a separate zipline tour, which is maybe more adventurous, but I wouldn't know because we didn't do that one. The ropes course is for ages 5 and older. Louisville Mega Cavern also offers a walking cavern tour and a tram tour, plus a drive-through Christmas lights display around the holidays. Be sure to book your activities in advance! This place is very popular and gets very busy. One thing to note is that outside food and drink are supposedly not allowed. (Oops, my bad. I didn't find that out until I had finished my tasty little tuna-and-crackers snack.) They also have lockers to put your things in if you don't have someone hanging back at the tables to hold your stuff.
