Really enjoyed our dinner here! The only thing I didn't love were the tuna tacos though my partner liked them. The gyoza, potatoes, the sushi rolls and the crab zuhi were all yummy. Everyone enjoyed their drinks too. Love that they have all day happy hour! We went around 530 pm and it wasn't too busy either which was nice

The food here was excellent. This is by far my favorite $$-$$$ sushi restaurant in Phoenix now. There are a few good sushi spots around this price range, but after visiting here, Sandfish is pretty hard to beat. Service was great. I came for a friend's birthday party and they accommodated us very well, we had a more secluded table which made the atmosphere more intimate and very comfortable, especially for a larger group. As for the food, the fish had a very clean taste, the flavor combinations made sense, and I got to enjoy a few pieces of nigiri I hadn't tried before. The Toyosu Market Special was well thought out and featured familiar nigiri toppings that felt more elevated and better executed than what you'd typically find elsewhere. The only note I have is about the maki rolls. While they all tasted great, the preparation could have been better. I would've liked more even distribution of rice and a more consistent presentation. I think most people probably wouldn't notice once they taste it, but since this is a higher end sushi spot, I'd expect a bit more precision, especially for such a basic roll. Nevertheless, it was an excellent experience for my first visit, and I expect to come back as often as my wallet allows.

What an incredible experience!! Did have reservations. Seated at a small 2 top. Perfect for ordering a few dishes at a time. Started with drinks. And then... we begin our ordering. Everything was fresh, colorful and delicious !!! I think we tried most of the appetizers. Then we moved onto the rolls . I can't wait to return. It is just the coolest place. Parking is at a minimum. FYI.

It was good, but not that exciting of a sushi place. Vibe was great and we enjoyed the company, but service was lackluster and the food was a bit underwhelming for the price point. However, I did hear that maybe they have an omakase menu and that's what you should go for. Not sure if it's true so you might want to do your research, but the regular restaurant menu is take it or leave it for me unless someone else really wants to go.

Came here for happy hour to give it a try and everything was delicious! We got the bao buns, gyozas, Brussels, Akami and yellowtail crudo, the sweet and spicy maki, the essence of yellowtail, and the octopus. There wasn't anything that we were unsatisfied with. Everything had a different flavor from all other sushi places. The dishes came out quick and the waitress was very kind.

This place has been on my list of places to try for some time and after visiting Saturday evening, I'm disappointed that I didn't visit sooner! Perfection is the only way to describe my experience at Sandfish. The service received was amazing. Katie was phenomenal, being both attentive and kind. She even provided superb recommendations. To drink, I had the lychee martini which was light and fruity. The fish here is extremely fresh and the portions are great for someone like myself who prefers their sushi fish forward vs having mostly rice, sauces, or fillings. Some of my favorites include all three crudo options, the nigiri sampler, and the essence of yellowtail maki. The location is intimate but still could accommodate larger parties. The ube oil cake was the cherry on top for a perfect evening of delicious food. I cannot wait to come back and try other items on the menu!

Honestly some really solid sushi here, some of the best in town! Ambiance was awesome, super vibey and small. Service was pretty bad to be honest, that's why I left it a 4/5 star. It wasn't overly packed but the waitress wasn't friendly at all. Other than that, food and drinks were great!

We had a great meal here for a birthday dinner! The ambiance was nice, not like over the top or anything but good vibes. Service was fast and efficient. Food is where it's at. The Brussels are a must get as well as the tuna tacos - and they don't skimp on the tuna. In fact, given the price point we never felt like we got skimped on any fish or portion sizes - which was awesome. All the rolls were amazing. Duck bao was fine. Would definitely come back for more apps and sushi!

This may have just taken its rightful place as my #1 sushi spot in PHX. I honestly want to gate-keep it but iykyk! I had been wanting to bring my parents while they were town because we all love sushi and my dad is a big whiskey guy. He said their old fashioned was in his top 3 of best he'd ever had. I had their drink of the week which was a basil gimlet and it was one of the most well balanced cocktails I have ever had! Casey was our server and she was so sweet and helpful every step of the way and never steered us wrong! When it came to food we stared with the hh menu and got the spicy edamame, salmon carpaccio, and yellowtail crudo. Then we have a few maki rolls. And when I tell you we did have a single bad thing, we did have anything that was not outstanding. Vibes inside were nice and classy. Natural wood tones, fun accent wall paper, mermaid tiles behind the bar all complimented each other so well, good vibes. Will 110% be back!

On repeat. I have wanted to try this spot for soooo long, but it's a bit out of the way for me and other places got ahead of it. No longer. This is going on repeat. The interior is rather minimalist, but it suits the tone of the food, lets the food be the star. We were in time for happy hour and took advantage of several offerings on the HH menu. Old fashioned was spot on. Right amount of orange to sweet to whiskey ratio, tasted like Bullitt, but not sure. We had the tuna tataki tacos (2 on HH menu). They were spicy and crunchy, the right amount of fresh tuna to tortilla. We also had the HH nigiri, chef's choice, and each morsel was not only beautiful but distinctly flavored. Sorry, don't remember the choices but some I have avoided because of past experiences but these were lovely. We also ordered the sweet and spicy roll, a combination of crab and spicy tuna with chili garlic crisp delicately dabbled across the top. . Delicious. Our final roll was a yellowtail tuna. Spicy. Packed with tuna. Can't wait to go back. Service was nicely paced, plates came and west effortlessly.

A hidden gem, although not that hidden! Right off of 7th Avenue, in the Melrose District, this restaurant sits quietly in plain sight. I have passed by this location several times, and am surprised I hadn't noticed it before, but I am quite aware of their Palm Springs location. My family came to Sandfish to celebrate a birthday, and the experience did not disappoint. I unfortunately did not get my waitress' name, but she such a delight! The restaurant was modern, sleek, and dare I say....sexy? I can totally see myself returning for a date night, as the atmosphere provides such nice intimacy. The food... A+ all around! We decided to try a little bit of everything, not only because we were hungry, but because we wanted to try a little of everything. We started with Chicken Gyoza & Brussels Sprouts, unfortunately no pix of either, but that's because we ate them up so quickly. I will say the Brussels Sprouts blew our minds with out delectable they were. For dinner we moved to 3 sushi rolls and two entrees. To be clear all three rolls were absolutely fantastic, but if I had to rate them in order, I would say my favorite was Koko, followed by Lollipop, then Savory Albacore. The two entrees were both delicious, but of course, the Wagyu was the star. Lastly the waitress was nice enough to surprise us with a birthday dessert, and let me tell you that the cheesecake is perfection. It is rich, creamy, and the perfect size to enjoy but not overindulge. Fantastic place, needs more attention on it! I know I will be back, and bringing with me all my friends and future dates.

Sandfish was great! My family and I came here to celebrate a birthday, after hearing about it on Yelp. The food, drinks, and service at this intimate little sushi restaurant were all so good. The restaurant is located in the Melrose district right next to a coffee shop. It has just a handful of tables inside as well as bar seating. We made dinner reservations a couple days prior thru their website, and the staff was kind enough to adjust our reservation time on the day of. For the table, we ordered a sashimi platter, tuna taster, shishito peppers, and the Essensu no Hamachi. For individual entrees, we got the grilled octopus, scallop tiradito, Sandfish roll, Melrose roll (special not on menu), yellowtail crudo, and duck bao. Our favorites were the sashimi--especially the snapper which was surprisingly buttery--and the yellowtail crudo because of the sauce. Our least favorite was the duck bao (tasted good but just not worth the price). The food was all really great quality and they had a HAPPY HOUR menu all day Sun-Thurs. Portions were small especially considering the price, but the quality of the seafood is there hands down. For dessert, they gave us an ube oil cake for the birthday boy. Shoutout to Jillian for the wonderful service!

Well prepared sushi and a deep whiskey list: what's not to like? I sat at the bar and had a good time chatting briefly with the bartender throughout the evening. He was open with suggestions about the whiskey list, and I was pleased when he said to just drink Kavalan Concertmaster neat or on a rock rather than mess with a good whiskey. The uni nigiri was one of the standouts, as it was Hokkaido sea urchin that just arrived that day. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented. I like the vibe inside, even though outside it doesn't appear to be much. This was my second visit, and I plan to move this up the list a place to visit more often!

When we walked in it had a very fishy smell, so it kind of made us second guess our choice. But we went for it anyhow. The greeter/server was very pleasant and sat us. It was very clean inside with ample space between seat. We browsed through the menu and started with our usual edamame and pot stickers. The edamame was salted well throughout where a lot of places just put the salt on top only. We ordered a couple varieties of sake which were both good. Out of all of the things we ordered the karange skewer was just a little more oily than were use to, but still good. The spicy salmon roll had really great flavor and the lollipop roll was probably one of the better versions that we have had. The musubi was giant to say the least, it was good, but offered a bit too much rice. Overall the food and service was great and we were very happy that we ended up here!

We were nearby for a show, and decided to stop in on a Wednesday evening for a late dinner with some friends. They have a good happy hour menu, and my friends ordered off there, but I was craving sushi so I got the nigiri omakase. It came with miso soup, which I enjoyed, definitely hard to go wrong there. The sushi itself was decent, nothing crazy, but definitely better than grocery store quality. The tuna and salmon pieces were a little fishy, maybe not the freshest, but it was also quite late (~10pm) so I wasn't expecting too much. Beautifully presented, and the cuts were quite large which was nice! The food came out pretty fast, and the service was pleasant. The restaurant vibes are pretty dark, and moody. The bathroom was kind of scary personally, super dark and a little messy, so I decided to wait till I got home. Overall, a solid experience, and definitely a good choice if I am in the area.

The retro-vibed atmosphere of the Papago Motor Inn complements the laid back pace of your meal. This is not a sushi spot or an Izakaya. Hai Noon is a chef presenting southwestern ingredients in a most respectful, flavorful and innovative manner. I was lucky enough to return 3 times in the past month. To my surprise, ingredients and sauces did not repeat themselves, and dishes were completely distinct in flavor and presentation. This is definitely my favorite food experience of the past few years...anywhere. All of our visits were handled by our waiter/guide "Arizona", who described dishes, and when asked what his favorites were (and unlike many other places that say everything is good when it isn't), he informed us we would love everything, but he could help us with the order we ate them, and suggest a sampling if we were just picking out a half dozen dishes. He was right. Everything was captivating, surprising and...absolutely delicious. Do not miss the specials...there will be 4 or 5 on a small piece of paper, and a couple of "special" drinks. These are seasonal items the chef wants to add because of the timing and presentation. They exemplify the category...they are indeed, SPECIAL. The second visit established a pattern. Have Arizona order, until you are full. He checked in with us along the way, and made a few modifications based on our hunger level, and allowing for certain dishes to be repeated. A few things really stood out because I hadn't tasted anything quite like those dishes. Other dishes ie: variations on classic aguachile, were just better than anything I've had elsewhere. Salmon and Whitefish carpaccios were both stellar, with really good hot sesame oil adding to the dish's garlic, ginger and Yuzu base. And, when you are done with the last bite of fish, they bring out rich, grilled slices of bread to mop up that sauce. We last started with Sashimi featuring Sea Bream, that had fatty belly, and less fatty but oh-so-flavorful filet slices, and an accompanying broth. Big Eye Tuna was served on a flavorful beet puree with sweet dark cherry wine notes. Since we didn't read the menu's notes before, a quick check showed that Nobuo does create a Pinot Noir reduction that invites wiping the plate clean. The first time, the Tuna and all traces of the puree were finished by the time Arizona walked out to describe the dish for us. That's why I re-ordered it each time we visited. Soup spoons present a sashimi/ceviche/aguachile experience that is delicate, nuanced, complex and downright spectacular in your mouth. Whether it showcased an oyster, hamachi or kampachi, each spoon was an amazing taste experience with complementing flavors and textures that were completely unexpected. Softshell Crab with cold noodles was the most succulent Softshell crab I have ever enjoyed, warm, beautifully moist and flavor popping within its crispy exterior, set off by the chilled vinegar and broth accented noodles. Brussel Sprouts with a honey mustard and wasabi glaze disappeared immediately. As it turns out, wasabi is the missing ingredient in many Brussel Sprout dishes! The Yams with goat cheese and Fresno chiles reminded me of the amazing fire-grilled gourds and yam dishes I have had at Bacanora...just unique and different. Two Wash chicken was beautifully caramelized finger food that I could also have made a meal out of. We thought it was amazing, and then the chef came out and told us how inspired he was when he first met the chicken farmers and cooked with their chicken, and if possible, the chicken became even more memorable for the story and connection. Curry marinated lamb was rich, and savory, and was another dish I could make a meal out of. The Pork Belly and Mushroom rice was likewise delicious, and full or deep umami richness and delectable meat and mushroom morsels. The Mushrooms en papillote (mushrooms served in paper), had absorbed what tasted like a delicious Veal Stock, were tastily caramelized, and then steamed in the paper container. They were so good we had to have another...and we weren't skimping on food. Beverages (Alcoholic and non) get the same attention. The cocktail list sounds absolutely crazy, with improbable ingredients. But all of the ones we sampled work, and they are wonderful (sharing amongst our table, we have now tried over half of the cocktails...and so far, they are damn great drinks). The beer selection is small and ideal for the food, as are the well-chosen cold sakes that span all budgets. It is better with a small group of people so you can really explore the breadth of fabulous offerings, but I think it's also an amazing spot to share food on a date!

I ordered the spider roll, salmon avocado roll, and steamed edamame. Everything was fresh, well-prepared, and exactly what I was hoping for. One unique thing about Kodo is their rice blend. They use a combination of black and white rice, which gives the sushi a distinctive purple color. It's not something you see every day, and it definitely makes their sushi stand out. It kept my leftovers from getting soggy by next day. Easy five stars.

Mediocre but I'd be willing to try it again now that I know what I'm getting into…read more The salmon sashimi I ordered was spot on, and really good. 8 slices for $15 is also the best pricing I have found in all of Scottsdale. I also ordered salmon skin and here is where the star deduction came into play. The salmon skin was served to me the way I asked - no rice, no sauce, no vegetables - BUT, it was burnt. So if I do go back, I would probably request them NOT to cook it so long. I ordered my husband a spicy tuna roll and a spicy salmon roll to go. He said the spicy tuna was good but the spicy salmon wasn't - it was as if the salmon quality that was used was poor.

The EXO noodles were really good and had just enough spice without being too hot. Plenty of seafood in it too. Katsu chicken sandwich was also quite tasty and the fries were some of the best fries I've had in a long time with an interesting dipping sauce. All in all a great experience I will definitely stop there next time I'm anywhere close!

Allergy warning! There are undeclared walnuts in the vegan potstickers. I have a walnut allergy and…read morethis ruined a recent date night at CK. I've enjoyed the vegan offerings at CK for years without issue, but this recent event has made me question whether I'll be returning. On a recent visit, my guy and I ordered the vegan potstickers to start, and also each ordered a cocktail and entree. As we finished sharing the potstickers, my throat and mouth started to itch and tingle, an indicator that I'd been exposed to something I'm allergic to. Our server came by and we asked if there are any nuts in the potstickers, and he quickly said that yes he's pretty sure there are. Then he asked if there was an allergy, to which I replied yes, I'm allergic to walnuts. He went to the kitchen and came back to say their allergen chart indicates tree nuts, but he'd have to ask the chef which one specifically. The server left again and was gone for at least 5 minutes at this time... Since we needed resolve quickly, my boyfriend left our table and went down the street to get me Benadryl. While the bf was gone, the server came back and said he couldn't find any Benadryl in the emergency kit, and asked how I was doing. I was quite uncomfortable, but trying to be patient waiting for Benadryl to arrive. Not sure what else was to be done in that moment. While I was hanging out alone waiting on my bf to return, the manger eventually came over and checked on me. He said he would take the potstickers off the bill. Gee, thanks? In hindsight, paying nearly $100 for the rest of the meal felt like a gut punch when I couldn't really enjoy anything and my guy had to physically leave in the middle of the meal to fix an issue they caused with negligence. Menu screenshot attached is from 5/18, which is about 2 weeks after my incident, so I'm assuming CK has not yet fixed their menus.
