We have beem going to Harumi for quite some time even before the new location which males theor old one look like a shack in comparison. Harumi has some great seafood flown in every day and I cant say enough about how great their Omakase is which I believe is only offered after 6pm. They have amazing sake bombers and also recommend the Unagi Don bown. Sushi can be pricey but for a great offering of sashimi and nigiri, I cant say it breaks the bank. They also have a wide range of rolls that the kids love as well as a flaming one done table side which is fun to watch. They also have real wasabi for just two dollars more which is well worth it. I also recommend happy hour for cheap damage, squid salad, and aforementioned sake bombers. Really a great option if you are staying downtown but also worth the trip from anywhere in the valley. Service is fantastic and quick, plus they have a bar at the sushi station if you want to see tour meal being made.the new location has very modern ambience and a very upscale feel to it. The nigiri and sashimi were definitely worth it and tasted very fresh. Worth the splurge for the underbelly toro sashimi (4 pieces for $22). Ambiance was fancy but not pretentious like Nobu. We were going downtown for a concert, craving some sushi and found this place on Yelp. No reservations available, I did check their website where you can be adding to a waitlist, but it stated currently no waitlist and invited us to just arrive at restaurant. We arrived a little after 5pm and the restaurant was mostly empty. But in the next 20 minutes it filled up and there was open sitting at the bar only. The mood was initially quiet but quickly turned more up beat as the restaurant filled and pop rock music was playing. We asked our waiter a few questions about a few of their rolls and he was very helpful with guidance and recommendations. We ordered Salmon Lemon, Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado Maki and California rolls to share for two. This restaurant uses purple rice rather than traditional white rice. This was the first time we have tried a sushi roll made with purple rice and we both loved it. It added a nutty flavor and hearty texture. Purple rice is similar to wild rice and far nutritionally superior to white rice with more antioxidant and fiber. Shortly after we ordered we were served a potsticker dish. I mentioned that we did not order the item and were informed the appetizer was complementary. We thanked the server and tasted the dish. The potstickers were nicely pan fried and had a great crust and flavorful chicken filling. Delicious! About five minutes later our rolls were delivered. All were fresh tasting and delicious. Our favorite was the Salmon Lemon roll. We loved the pop the lemon added. Honorable mentions to the Spicy Tuna roll, very well done, excellent balance of heat and flavors. I have been to Harami sushi many times in the distant past, but this is my first visit since they moved across the street. It's spacious, tastefully decorated and either they hit the jackpot with staff or their training is spectacular. My table had lots of questions, but everyone they interacted with was knowledgable, helpful and professional. They were able to satisfy my friends who are vegan, vegetarian, and even gluten free without batting an eye. The sushi itself was all delicious. Rolls and nigiri are served using forbidden rice, which is a great twist on standard sushi. I had hamachi - fresh and promptly served. I also had the omg roll, which is served theatrically on fire in an aluminum foil boat. It's unagi based so totally appropriate. My favorite lunch special, which is less than $20 comes with Udon & 2 of the signature house rolls. The Udon is a large portion with a ton of flavor in the broth. First time here and I was not disappointed. All of the staff were friendly and helped each other run food and refill waters, which isn't something you see much of these days. We were there at around 5pm and it wasn't too busy, but there was a steady flow of diners coming in and out. Seating is ample, with outdoor, bar, sushi bar, and regular table options. I ordered two rolls: hot havana and mango roll. Both were delicious and the mango was juicy! The purple rice was super fun and set them apart from other sushi spots. I also ordered the miso soup to start. The food came out quickly. My only "complaint" is there aren't a ton of classic roll options. Harumi came highly recommended by friends and family who live in town, so it was a must-try when we were visiting AZ over the holidays. We made a reservation for four adults and one baby for lunch, and we were glad we did because this is a popular spot! Nearly every table was full by the time we were leaving. I started with an iced matcha latte, which may have been one of the best I've ever had! It was smooth, sweet, and lightly frothy. Their lunch specials are an incredible value: you can get so much food for great price! I went with the Udon & Duo, which was $15 for a huge bowl of udon noodle soup and two sushi rolls of your choice from a select menu. Everything was fresh and flavorful - the sushi is made on purple rice which is a fun twist! Our server was so sweet, and they were well equipped and happy to serve a baby, although a very well-behaved baby at that. I'm going to start off by seconding the common opinion -- the black rice is tasty, but it doesn't make for amazing sushi rice personally, as it does tend to fall apart as soon as soy sauce touches it (even when just picking it up, especially the nigiri). I think what shines here are the unique roll options and the fish quality. The service is also always great, I've always had really friendly servers, and the food comes out super fast (like almost concerningly fast hahaha). This time, my family came for a Sunday night dinner, and there was no wait at all. We shared a couple of rolls, some appetizers and udon. The gyoza was the deep-fried kind, which was good, I think I personally prefer pan-fried. The Oh My God roll is always a hit with people, as it comes with a fun little fire show, but I'm not a huge fan of very saucy rolls so I opted for the nigiri and rainbow roll combo -- which was great value! I didn't love the udon personally, I think there was a lot of pepper or spices that kind of overtook the flavor of the broth. Surprised such an amazing sushi place exists in Phoenix ! I visited my friend in Phoenix and we liked Harumi so much that we came back the following day. Their decor is beautiful with a modern boho vibe and soft wood tones that's perfect for a date. We shared a few rolls and also ordered some kid friendly options (plain rice, side of avocado, sweet potato roll, avocado cucumber roll). Our favorite roll was the Hot Havana roll! Must get it if you like yellowtail! Also appreciate that they have a very affordable chef special that is perfect for those on a keto/low carb die. It came with 6 pieces of sashimi and the oasis roll. Love that that use a rice blend (purple or black rice?) that gives it a purple hue. My partner and I originally chose this place because we heard they light one of the sushi rolls on fire, which immediately sounded like something fun we had to try. Funny enough, this actually wasn't even the exact restaurant my partner had been thinking of when he brought it up, but honestly I'm so glad we ended up here anyway because the food was REALLY good. We ordered the flaming ohmygod sushi roll, and man... it was amazing. Not only was the presentation fun, but the sushi itself actually tasted incredible too, which sometimes isn't the case with more "gimmicky" menu items. It was so good that I literally ordered another roll to-go and took it on the plane back home with me because I already knew I'd be craving it later. That alone should say enough about how much I liked it. I also tried the matcha martini, and it was honestly one of the best cocktails I've had in a while. It had the perfect balance of matcha flavor and alcohol where neither one overpowered the other. Sometimes matcha drinks either taste way too earthy or completely lose the matcha flavor under the alcohol, but this one was super smooth, flavorful, and really well done. The restaurant itself also has a really nice atmosphere. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating, and the indoor area definitely has a more upscale vibe than your usual sushi spot and that makes the experience feel a little more elevated and perfect for a date night. On top of all that, the servers were super friendly and provided genuinely great service throughout the meal. From the moment you walk in until you leave, your experience here will be monumental. You are never rushed, the servers are all super friendly and knowledgeable, and if you need anything, you can flag someone down and they'll come right to you. Even the bussers stop and get you whatever you need. The Japanese Caesar Salad has got to be my all-time favorite. It's so unique and the presentation is beautiful! I got a miso soup and some chicken gyoza to start. The gyoza was great and the sauce that came along with it made it even better. I ordered the spicy blue fin tuna roll and the oh my god roll. A friend recommended this place to me and I decided to try it on a recent work trip into Downtown with some colleagues, and all I can say about this place is WOW! The atmosphere is definitely a bit more upscale, with dim lighting and steady flow of traffic, which I appreciated as opposed to some of the "all you can eat" sushi places around the Valley. The wait staff all works together very collectively and cohesively to ensure a guest experience, and the food is absolutely delicious.
