Neat place, very retro. The tiled bathrooms are cute. Benches outside along the walls do you can sit outside, relax, chat with your room neighbors. BBQ grill in the middle you can use if you're inclined (we didn't, but another guest did). Rooms were fairly clean. The AC took forever to cool the room (the AC unit is tiny, and above the door). But once it was cool, it stayed cool. Owners are cool. They don't accept pets, but allowed our ESA with our doctor's note. Check in and out was easy. If you want a modern, ritzy hotel, this isn't the place for you. But, if you want an old-school experience and don't mind a little grittiness and charm- this is it. NASTY!!!! Lady at the front desk needs to learn English too!!! Office is locked all the time. Not any kind of breakfast. Shower Fossett leaked cold water on you while you showered. Only two electric plugs in room 37. My wife got out of the shower and walked 3 steps to the bed and her feet turned black from the filth from the carpet! Y'all suck at cleaning!!! read more

The price is right! This is an old motel that originally opened in 1968. It has real charm that I loved. I look for a clean room with friendly people and that is exactly what you can expect at the Sands Motel. read more

I knew when booking the room that the hotel was old from other reviews but most said clean linens and bed. Not true! The bedding was dirty and room looked like it was used for hourly guests. Barf!! Will never stay there again. read more

Where do I begin? It's a motel, what do you expect right. I've stayed in lots of them. Luckily I'm only here for 3 days but my poor boyfriend is stuck here on a business trip (his company pays for the room) for 9 days. The outside just looks like it's been here for a long time and no one has ever made the decision to upgrade or renovate. But when you go in the lobby it's all nice, marble counter tops, coffee, all nice. When you get in your room you'd think you'd have entered a whole different motel. The beds are full size beds that are hard as rock. You feel every spring. The floor was soaking wet. The air conditioning comes from a little ac vent from above the door which you need a chair or stool to reach. The AC vent was probably bought in the 80's and only has 8 settings for the temperature. 12345678. So technically you can't control the ac it's just hot and gross no matter what. DUST!!! EVERYWHERE! Can we invest in a tissue box for all the rooms cause my allergies are going nuts. All over the walls, the curtains, the water heater, the shelves the lights. Someone get some swiffer dusters up in here. The walls are all beaten up with some nasty old wallpaper. Tons of wires hanging out of the walls. Barely any lighting. A weird pole thing sticking out of the door. Tiny closet space with only 4 hangers. The TV was also probably bought in the 80's along with all the furniture. Now let's go to the bathroom shall we? Green tile floor and walls. Only one person can fit in the bathroom at a time cause it's so small. The shower is super tiny with no where to put your toiletries. No shelves or sink space to do makeup or put your toothbrush down. The toilet doesn't have a seat. They have one towel rack next to the shower and a place for 3 light bulbs above the sink but 2 of them are gone so you're stuck with one light and a window which has dead bugs all over it as well as webs. ALSO! The towels you get are good size...for a baby. And even then they absorb nothing. Can't even cover all my private parts with these towels they're so small. There's also leftover trash in the bathroom on the window sill from the last people who came. Id suggest not wasting your money on this place. It's not worth it. read more

BED BUGS! Found a bed bug and when I smashed it blood went everywhere! The lady at the front office argued with me and told me I have no proof that it came from her hotel and I must have brought it with me. I booked the room for a week and only stayed 4 nights of the week. She refused to even consider a refund for the remaining nights I had left. I will never go to this place again, the woman at the front desk was absolutely horrible to deal with and was very accusatory. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. Very filthy. We made a reservation tonight for one of the 2 bedroom units. Despite the online reservation indicating that the room would overlook the courtyard, none of the 2 bedroom units overlook the courtyard. Rather, all of them are on a separate street where you feel like your car will get broken into. After checking in and paying, we went into our room and were horrified to find piles of nasty chicken bones undernear the bed and near one of the side tables. Evidently, the room had not been cleaned before our stay. After reporing it to the manager, he made some excuses that the 2 bedroom units are usually used by people who stay for extended periods of time and as such it is harder to keep the room clean. I don't buy it. Will not ever be coming back to this place and you should never stay there. read more

stayed here during frontier day times and sands hotel saved me. They were vacant when everyone was full. They offered the room at a reasonable price. The owner was really nice and accomadating. The rooms are a bit small but can't complain too much. read more

My husband and I stayed here and the room was not what we viewed on the sands motel website. The tube television had lines running through the picture. The carpet was filthy. There was mold in the shower. Do not stay here, pay for a nicer place to rest. read more

This is an inexpensive motel, run by the owner. We routinely drive from Omaha to Rock Springs to see our son and kids. We just found this place and it is the best for the price we have found. We stayed in room 44. It was clean, flat screen TV, nice old fashioned decor, adequate space, big closet, queen size bed, lots of flat space to set bags, large fridge & normal small microwave. In August the Air Con was adequate, it is high above the door with a light switch high up to turn it on. At first that seemed weird, but actually it is much better than the usual low down Air Conditioners that blow right on you all night, cool air at the ceiling floats down and is much more pleasant. One gripe and I told the owner, he should put in some power strips, virtually no outlets for charging phones & computers. I saw the wi-fi signal on my phone but did not sign in and try it. No bathroom outlet for a hair dryer and no coffee pot. The bed was firm, but I slept great, so no big deal even for old people in our 60's. Checkout is 10 AM. I thought about giving it 4 stars, but for $55 including the tax, this is a GREAT PLACE! read more

This place is a dump. My husband and I stayed here for a month with out kids. He is a electrical contractor and works out of town a lot therefore we have stayed in numerous places. The owner Paul changes prices with every person who walks in the door. He also wanted to increase our room rate for the week of Frontier Days from 245. to 625. for 2 weeks. Also, his wife would complain if you got a spot on the towels / wash rags/ sheets and would start giving you old, dingy, holey towels/wash rags and sheets. And if you got a spot on the floor she would make you clean it up. The rooms are also so small. They also don't care who they rent to. I had a man who did not rent a room there come up and give my son and ask him questions with my husband out there and he asked where he was staying and he said I live behind here and we mentioned it to the owners and nothing was done. Also, very noise from the train depot across the street. Nothing like getting woke up a 5 a.m. from train carts slamming together. Be careful when you turn on the water you have to wait for the cold to turn cold for al least 2 mins. if not you will get burned. The outside looks like the Bates Motel. If you have children the owner will also ask you keep them inside because he doesn't like them in his garden area, which is part of the only grass area on the premises (but he will let dogs poop in there and not pick it up). There are cheaper places in Cheyenne or stay further down the road and just drive the 40 mins. into Cheyenne its worth it not to stay here. We actually found a nicer, bigger room, and very accommodating folks in Laramie Wy for the same price with a heated indoor pool, continental breakfast and will not have to pay in increase. read more
