I called a dozen masonry companies and only a few called back with a quote. Many said my job wasn't "big enough" or didn't meet their "minimum" dollar amount. The long story ? The house during torrential down pours sprung a leak. After much investigation it was discovered that the roof ( that had been replaced 18 months earlier ) had caused damage to the flashing that had been in place for decades attached to the chimney. I reached out to Kyle through Home Advisor and after a bit of arranging of schedules he was able to come out and take a look at the fireplace to verify that there was nothing structurally wrong with the chimney. Kyle was kind enough to chat with me, hop on the roof, photograph the damage and produce a quick report that amended what had been seen by others confirming that the roofing company was at fault and there was no damage other than cosmetic to be fixed. Of 3 estimates, Kyle was the best value (and also the lowest) of the bids for a block wall that was teetering because of tree roots. After removing the trees, a storm knocked down the leaning wall breaking many of the blocks. Kyle kept to his original estimate, did not charge more to replace the unusable blocks, and finished the job in 2 days, adding rebar where there wasn't initially, and cosmetically looks excellent. He also had a gap in his schedule that opened and was able to complete this a month earlier than originally scheduled. He and his small crew were a pleasure to work with, and thorough. I had initial concerns since he was the lowest bidder, but after reviewing so many 5-star reviews from work in well-to-do neighborhoods decided to go with his firm. I was not disappointed. read more
