HAVE I REALLY NEVER REVIEWED SANDWICH BOWL!!!!!!!?!!!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE SANDWICH BOWL. If you know me you know I f*** with Sandwich Bowl. I love their sandwiches. I love their bowls (of soup). I love their desserts. I love the owner (shoutout Jesi!!!) I LOVE THEIR CARROT CAKE AND SANDWICH BOWL KNOWS IM COMING IN HOT IF CARROT CAKE IS ON THE MENU!!!! One time I went into Sandwich Bowl and there was a group of these really nice ladies who were all meeting up for some nice food together. They were so cute!!! Ugh like just walking into Sandwich Bowl will make you smile. You'll see girls being girls (even after 70 years the gal pals still meet up for a nice lunch). The brand of chips they use as a side is top notch! They have an eat the menu challenge which honestly I need to just start. Every day they're open they post the specials on Facebook! I literally check that page every day. Even if I don't go to Sandwich Bowl that day I check the Facebook page like it's the freaking New York Times (or whatever folks read a lot these days (I've been watching a lot of Gilmore Girls so iykyk)). Here from out of town and needed a hearty but heavy/greasy lunch for between son's tournament games. Very casual, hippie atmosphere. Love the fun plants everywhere. The menu is ginormous so you might check it out before going in. I love the "burgers" here because you can get it served in the hoagie roll or as a bowl/salad. That's how I got it! 0 carbs and lots of freshness with the lettuce mix. My son got the chicken sandwich with bacon and ranch. I think it's called the sixth. I got the bacon and bleu with ranch on the side. I am a ranch connoisseur and theirs wasn't my fave, guessing store bought, but the bowl was so flavorful on its own so I wasn't disappointed! read more

I have literally been wanting to try this place for over a year. And let me tell you, I'm sad I waited so long. I got their chicken noodle soup that was their special and almost ate the whole quart of it. I also got their chicken noodle club sandwich, and the meat on there was perfectly sliced, and layered. And then the pasta salad. Literally brings back summer family memories. I plan to come here again soon. I didn't get to try a dessert, but I've got a few in mind I'm waiting to try! Love this place and I need to go more often, darn it. I love the local feel of this store. Everyone seems to care about the level of service they offer and they don't take the customer for granted. I love the Big Dipper sandwich and a side salad but it is way too much food. Everything is fresh and nicely prepared/presented. There are many options on their menu for those with special diets, too. I've had many of their soups and they are all yummy. This place has a strong local following. It is not on my daily route so I don't get here near as often as I would like to. There is ample parking and everything is easy to access. Highly recommended for a local option read more

What a fabulous lunch experience at Sandwich Bowl. The visit started off with wonderful service from the caring staff. My mouth always waters over their Facebook posts showing daily/weekly specials. Because of what I saw today, I opted for the Clusterfork Sandwich and Chicken Florentine Soup. The Clusterfork was on a super soft hoagie bun packed with toppings. The Chicken Florentine soup was made with slightly curried chicken and was honestly one of the best soups I've ever tasted. I can't wait to come back for another meal! read more

Very clean and nice place, very attentive to detail. I ordered a sandwich for my mom who has Alphagal allergies and they accommodated her order. Today was my first day at the Sandwich Bowl, and I ordered the Reuben sandwich and cup of tomato basil soup. The reuben sandwich was actually pretty good, but the bread needed to be grilled or toasted a bit more for my tastes. I was not a fan of the soup, however my friend ordered it also, and she loved it. Every thing is prepared fresh so it will take a bit more time to get your food. The person that took our order was very pleasant and friendly and checked on us later to see if we need anything else. A very solid sub and the owner is worth a visit by herself. Super nice and amazing to talk with. The price is ultimately what drives this place down a little bit. The subs are solid but not outstanding. The wait was pretty long. 25+mins for 1 Hot sub, 2 colds, and a soup that was already made and sitting in a warmer. No other customers inside. Got a typical combo sandwich and also tried the after burner which is pork loin with Buffalo sauce and onions and cheese. Neither blew me away. I see the yearly rewards so possibly I caught them on an off day so I will try again at some point. read more

Nice place to stop in for a sandwich or in my case, soup today. Great chicken noodle soup with crackers. Interesting style of noodle, thick and short. Never had that type before glad I tried it. Be prepared, their selection takes up the entire wall! No joke, it's blackboard style and fun filled choices. We stopped into Sandwich bowl because DUH sandwiches ! This place has a menu that can satisfy the biggest carnivore right down to vegan. They offer so many sandwich options, soups, and plenty of tasty treats to satisfy your sweet tooth. When we walked in we were overly hungry so we went for a big breakfast burger sandwich and the Randall; which is a spin on a classic Ruben but with pork tenderloin instead. The breakfast burger sandwich had to be shared because if it wasn't I would have had left overs with no problems. The portions are not lacking and certainly not lacking flavor. We ordered and they went right to making our order FRESH if I may add. The establishment is clean, the staff is beyond friendly, and the food.... I can honestly say that I can't even wait to go back and try more of it ! BONUS- the kids meals not only come with drinks but they come with an awesome ice cream treat which we love because our kids need a little extra motivation to eat everything sometimes. The one tip I can give is looking at the menu ahead of time because it's a bit intimidating with all of the options. All in all, I'll be back and it will be sooner than later that's for sure ! read more

Great sandwiches, decor is okay, service is good. Had the Country Fair and husband had the Afterburner. Corned beef was really flavorful and not fatty. I liked the lettuce, red onion and tomato combo in place of the sauerkraut. Bread was a solid marble rye. Only sides are bag of chips, carrots or apple. Wanted the clam chowder as a substitute, but they were already out of the soup of the day at 1:30. The Afterburner was spicy with the Buffalo sauce and jalapeños. Husband said it was good but mostly tastes like the sauce and jalapeños, can't really taste the pork but that's the nature of the sandwich. read more

Baffled how the majority of their sandwiches have Monterey Jack cheese listed as an ingredient but when asked if we can add it to another sandwich, they say they don't have it. How do they make most of their menu without this ingredient? Are they are substituting it without telling customers? Update your menu to be correct. I've been visiting this place for a little over a month now and I still love it. My boyfriend and I have our weekly date night here. We love the casual atmosphere and enjoy sitting and watching the food network. My favorites (and the only three sandwiches I've tried so far) are the B.A.T.H., Hatchery and the 6th street. My boyfriend, however tries something new all the time! His favorites (so far) are Son-of-a, Flying Pig, Chatburn and the Big Dipper. Sandwich Bowl in Lawrence, Kansas is a family owned and locally operated restaurant that offers a menu consisting of graciously portioned gourmet deli hot & cold sandwiches serving premium Boar's Head brand quality meats and cheeses. half-pound burgers, fresh salads, homemade soups, and from-scratch desserts.

History

Established in 2012.

Our Lawrence Location opened in 2012 and as of July 2017, we relocated to the corner of west 6th and Wakarusa at 4821 W 6th Street ste K. The Harlan, Iowa location opened in 2008 in a building with quite a history. Architect and Builder, J.O. Wickersham. This two story brick building is a Type 1 building and was elaborate in its original Italianate detailing which included a metal cornice at both top floor and the first/second floor break and metal hoodmolds. While the conices have been removed, the hoodmolds remain as does the brick corbelling on the cornice and the three-bay windows. The storefront has been remodeled, although the later three pane transom windows remain intact. Historically, this building was constructed as the first Shelby County Bank, but subsequently housed the C.O. White Cigar Shop (1890s), a barber shop (c.1909), a meat market (c1910), a pool hall (c1918), Jacobsen Grocery (1940s), Yours & Mine Consignment Shop (2007) and currently Sandwich Bowl.

Meet the Business Owner: Jesi K.

Jesi was born in Lawrence but grew up in Harlan, Iowa. She chose to move back to Lawrence in fall of 2007 to attend the University of Kansas where she graduated in spring of 2011. During her freshman summer back in Iowa, she helped open the original Sandwich Bowl in 2008. In 2012, it was decided to open another location in Lawrence and the rest is history!
