I love that she can tailor my hair color based on my hair profile and previous history with coloring, so I've been very pleased with how the color always comes out and I usually get compliments after my hair is done. Glad to report her work is still great and pricing is very reasonable many years later! Parking is also super easy in the lot and convenient to get in and out of. It's in a huge shared plaza with places like Trader Joe's if you want to get errands done while you're out here.

I'm pretty picky about my hair, especially because I'm originally from Japan and I have a different hairstyle expectation that you usually cannot get at a U.S. hair salon. That's been said, if you have a typical Asian guy with hair traits like mine (thick & straight), I highly recommend you give it a try at this hidden gem in Monrovia. I cut my hair every 3-4 weeks, and I get a perm once a 3-4 months at Yumi's place. Yes, you read it right, I get a perm. I know getting men's perm is not common in the U.S, but the truth is it's such an undervalued thing here because permed hair is incredibly easy to manage, which is usually not the case for a typical thick straight Asian guy hair. Additionally, Yumi's place has very low covid risk as it's an individually owned salon, and the only person you meet in person is Yumi. She is very careful about maintaining covid sanitization and I feel safe each time I go there. I opted for a blunt cut with face framing layers, and she D E L I V E R E D!!! She trimmed the perfect amount and did not leave it short at all. It was the perfect refresh! And, her scalp scrub was 10 out of 10! I've gotten wash & blowouts at other salons, and my scalp will still feel dirty. But, not with Carolina! My scalp felt super clean and she hit some pressure points. The blowout was super pretty. I also talked to her about some minor greys I have and asked about her root touch ups since I was doing them previously. She was so honest and said she didn't recommend it. Instead, she recommended a hair product for cover up from the Style Edit (which she is not sponsored by, does not have a partnership with, & does not sell at her salon. I purchased through Amazon without her giving me a direct link) I've been using that and I'm obsessed! I got to save my coin and I appreciated her honesty. I also asked about glosses (which she happily does) and she recommended continuing my in-shower glossing at home to keep my hair healthy. Carolina's integrity shines. He answers the phone almost immediately every time I call, always texts to confirm appointments, and somehow manages to make time for me even when his schedule is completely full. This last visit meant more to me than he probably knows. I had just been laid off from my job and had an important interview the next day. I felt overwhelmed and stressed and knew I needed a haircut to feel even a little more confident going into it. Even though Leo was fully booked for days, he offered to see me two and a half hours after his normal closing time. After a long day of work, he still welcomed me with kindness, patience, and warmth and took incredible care of me without ever making me feel rushed or like an inconvenience. When I went to pay at the end of the appointment, Leo stopped me and told me he was taking care of my haircut because of what I was going through. That moment genuinely brought me to tears. In a time when I was feeling really low, his generosity and compassion meant everything to me. Leo is not only an incredibly talented stylist, but a genuinely good human being. I found Veronica through Yelp and saw the amazing work she does and was convinced. It was very easy to schedule an appointment over the phone and heard back within the same day. I was able to layer, wash and style by hair for $60 which is unheard of in this economy.
