This is where I think this particular store in The Avenue gets it right. They educate the consumer first and then let you decide. For example do you know why a person would use a stainless steel sauce pan as opposed to a non-stick? I didn't when I came here. I just thought it was a personal preference...apparently it's more than that...its about what you're cooking...but that's what's great about this store is that the folks here will explain all of this stuff to you without any pretentious snobbiness or judgement. In fact many years ago I bought my first big girl chef's knife here after I spent 20 minutes with a very nice sales person. (I previously had been using a $8 knife that I thought I bought from a street vendor.) I still use it everyday and it still cut like I bought it just the other day...so that old saying you get what you pay for is true in this case. They didn't have the exact part I needed, but the employees were genuinely friendly and took the time to talk through what I was trying to accomplish. They explained that certain sink components are difficult to find individually because they typically only come with the sink itself or as part of the original installation kit. Unfortunately, the only way their available options would have worked was if I purchased an entirely new sink. Even though I didn't leave with the part, I appreciated that they pointed me toward another store that might have it and didn't try to upsell me unnecessarily. LuCKY for me! :-) If you own a home long enough, seems like just about everything eventually needs to be replaced. Had a tough time finding a little part I needed. Retail hardware stores and even online, the part I needed wasn't readily available. Everyone had an assembly that required much more work on my part that the job didn't call for. Finally found it at Ferguson's! They were fast and fairly priced. Their retail price is higher than online, as it's based on volume. Very happy they ordered the exact part for me, instead of an entire assembly like hardware stores. Fixed it in about 5 minutes and the ankle biter is no more! + Ambiance is clean, well-organized plumbers' dream garage. This is NOT a retail shop. All but me were plumbers in line picking up their orders. +++ Everything plumbing is sold here from gleaming faucets to tiny gaskets. I arrived at 5:50PM and walked into a frantic gentleman trying to dwindle down a 5 person line. He ended up locking the door at 5:56PM stating, "if he didn't he would be there until 7PM". I was the last in line. Once he got to me he asked if I knew FOR CERTAIN what I needed and I told him I was there to pick up my order #12137324. He QUICKLY instructed me that the order was not made and that I would have to return tomorrow. I told him that I received a confirmation email over an hour ago and sprinted there after work. He stated that there is nothing he can do because the girl that left him there alone never made my order and I would have to come back tomorrow. I asked for a refund and was told that the order does not actually charge my card until they initial the sale in the computer, which they had not done. He ensured me that he would cancel my order first thing in the morning. So now I am left with no paint samples, no more $10 off code for signing up, and time to make up at work for leaving early. I would like to know why there was an email sent to me when my order was never touched. Also, I would to get my $10 off coupon back. I went to this store, in order to buy a piece of Mahogany that I need for a project…read more While I was there, the store was overwhelming staffed and patroned by older men who I found to be rude. The lumber section of the store is in a back corner, and isn't a very large area. While I was selecting my piece of wood, several men would just walk walk in front and around me, without saying excuse me nor being verbal at all. It was like I wasn't even there, to them. So as to not get touched or knocked over, I had to move away from the lumber twice, even though I wasn't finished making my selection, just so I wouldn't be "in the way." When I went to check out, I was standing in line, and the cashier, Don, called the gentleman who was behind me up to the register to check out. That gentleman let the cashier know that I was ahead of him and it was my turn to check out. I had actually been standing in line for a while before the customer behind me even got in line. Don then called me up- he offered no apology. As he checked me out, Don didn't ask if I had found everything ok. Didn't ask if I needed anything else. Generally unfriendly. I just generally noticed a certain theme in this store, and I don't like the vibe. Maybe some diversity, in gender and/or race, would help offset that vibe.
