I didn't give lots of details about what I wanted but he cut my hair really well. I didn't necessarily like it a lot at first and he cut off more than I was comfortable with initially but it turned out really good at the end and I really liked it. read more

I came here for a haircut before my trip and I appreciate Sandy for squeezing me in as my main person wasn't available before I left. I liked the resulting haircut but I wasn't really happy with the process. They were extremely rough with my hair, one example being that she took a brush and very roughly brushed my hair while it was still extremely wet. I noticed a lot of breakage in my hair after the wash and cut and that hasn't really been a problem for me before. Also, the salon seemed pretty dirty. There was dust and hair clippings absolutely everywhere (not just on the floor) and the tools she used on me also looked questionable. I do feel like Sandy listened to what I was wanting and my haircut is nice, but I don't think I will be returning here for my haircuts going forward. read more

I have visited Sandy's salon since I was 16 years old and she is still my favorite hair stylist. Sandy has always ensured my hair is in tip-top shape and I have never really walked out of there unhappy. There's never any split ends or unevenness when she trims my hair. She is meticulous and detail oriented. I really appreciate that about her because I am the same way about small details. One of the nicest things about her salon is that it is unpretentious. The downstairs car park has plenty of free parking spaces which is nice. It is also very easy to make an appointment with her. I always just give her a ring, and she is almost always available within the same day or the week. Her salon is closed on Tuesday and it does get busy during the weekend. I would personally recommend anyone who has time before noon during the weekdays for an appointment. I have twice made a mistake in the past and forgot to bring cash for payment. She was gracious enough to let me make payment later. If you forget to bring cash (or just didn't know because it's your first time there), you can always hop across the street to CVS or 711 and buy something small with a cash back instead of the ATM. All in all, I would not feel hesitant about recommending her salon to anyone. read more

I'm very grateful to Sandy for the last minute appointment I made today. I called in the early afternoon to see if she could fit me in and she at first said no, but then called me back and asked if a certain time could work. This is my first time seeing her, so I was surprised she made the effort to fit me in, but I was also very relieved. I was worried I'd have to wait a while for her to cut my hair when I arrived since it was a last minute appointment but she was very cognizant of my arrival, greeted me and asked if I could wait another several minutes. I didn't feel ignored at all. My hair is very long and she was amazing at asking questions on my preference and skillfully giving me layers. She has good humor and was super pleasant. My haircut for extra long hair was $54. I really did enjoy the experience and was extra grateful she could fit me in, and I loved my haircut, which was done quicker (and with more quality) than I expected. I had a bad experience in a DIFFERENT salon the last time I cut my hair, so this meant a lot! read more

I typically don't write non-restaurant reviews, however, I feel like this place deserves all the business it should get. I highly recommend Nini! She's only been in the states for several years. Hence, her English isn't all that great, but it's def understandable enough for me. Her skills, creativity & attention to detail were awesome. She def took her time to ask for my preferences & opinions while giving hers at the same time. She also showed me how to properly style my hair at the end while giving lots of tips. She's friendly, polite & very honest; It's also what I appreciate about her. It was easily the best haircut experience I've gotten from the MD area. ** $24 for men's cut + hair wash ($21 without). Appointment-based & cash/checks only. read more

This is a cash only place. Mediocre hair cuts and terrible coloring job. Likely uses poor quality products.

My first time to Sandy and went there for the first time and she is able to slot me in with her busy schedule. The result i get is not bad at all! She is patience and able to explain to me the style i am getting. I will be back for more haircut since is only a short distance. Also she only accept cash or check and you don't have to remove mask she will measure your side length to be sure is balance. read more

I've been going to Sandy's salon for 10+ years now. And I can say without a doubt that Sandy is a wizard with scissors. Not only is she fast, she's thorough. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my hair. She's also amazingly patient and sweet with my Grandmother. My Grandma always leaves the chair smiling. Her cut and color are always flawless and shiny. Both thumbs up and all the stars. All of them. read more

Sandy's Hair Studio - Grandmother's haircut by Sandy Chen :) - Hair Salons Near Me - Rockville, Maryland

My cousin recommended Sandy since I am not familiar with the area. She took careful safety precautions, asking me to call from my car before I came in and to wear a mask. She sprayed down the chairs before I sat down and wore a face mask and shield the whole time. She's very careful and thorough in her method and measured for evenness several times. A very unpretentious place for a great simple haircut. read more

Love love love! Went here for the first time because I wanted a deep red balayage with highlights and Sandy did a wonderful job. The color came out beautiful and she was such a pleasure; she knows what she's doing. Will definitely be coming back read more

I chose Sandy's Salon based on the Yelp reviews. The salon is wonderful! She takes great safety precautions spraying down the chairs, and cleaning supplies between clients. She wore a mask, face shield and hair cover throughout my entire appointment. She listens to her client's wants, and is very meticulous with cutting hair. I will definitely be a returning customer. read more

I was recommended here by a friend and got my hair cut by some guy (forgot name), not Sandy. I told him that since my layers had grown out, I wanted a LITTLE freshen up, nothing major. He went ahead and decided that a freshen up meant giving me an 80's mullet, making my already thin hair SUPER thin, all the while bragging about his superior hair cutting skills. Needless to say, my hair looked awful and I will never be coming back here again. read more

I've been going to Sandy's since 2010. She's usually really booked, but flexible to work with you on an appointment. I've been going for a haircut and digital perm. I get my haircut/perm once every 18 months or so because the perm lasted so long and looked so good!! My hair's on the thicker side, so every time I go in for a perm, it takes about 3-4 hours. Another reason I don't get my haircut/perm too frequently. Takes too long. It's a bit pricey but definitely worth the money. When I lived in Philly, I would drive all the way back to Maryland for a haircut. Cuz I don't trust anyone else with my hair. Sandy and Ben are both very friendly, but they don't chat with you too much. Which I love because I prefer having some space. A lot of my friends go to Sandy's for haircuts and perms (straight and regular perm) and most of them love the results. I actually haven't heard one complaint from my friends yet. Highly recommend. Last time I went in 2013, they only take personal check and cash. No credit card. Not sure if they've changed it since, but make sure you check with them before making an appointment. read more

I came in as William Hung. I left as Rain. Yes. It is that good. Nini also revealed my hair ignorance. She asked me how I preferred the shape of the back of my head... what? I didn't know people look at the back of my head. She asked if I had trouble styling my hair and if I wanted it thinner... do I want to push my bangs in one direction or the other. I didn't even know how to answer half of the other questions she asked me, I just did not know. The level of detail she considers when giving a haircut has been astounding. Ask for Nini if you want an avante-garde haircut. She is young and trained in Taiwan. There aren't many places in this area where you can get a hip Asian haircut, and this is one of them. read more

I have been going to Sandy for about 3 years now. She rescued my hair from a terrible dye back then and has been cutting and styling my hair since because for the first time someone understands my crazy asian hair. She's very open to what you'd like and gives feedback on what would look better on you and suit you. Never disappointed! She's the best my hair ever had. read more

I've been seeing Sandy for four years and have always come away happy. She gives a precision haircut and knows what will look good. Her cuts are wash & go, and I really appreciate how low-maintenance they are. She's always able to fit me in and her prices are reasonable. A couple times I forgot my checkbook and she's fine with me mailing a check through my bank. read more

Sandy and Ping have been doing weddings together for many years, with Sandy in charge of hair and Ping in charge of make up. Our wedding party consisted of the bride and 4 bridesmaids. With a group discount, the prices were $58 for bridesmaid hair and $65 for bridesmaid makeup. Since they don't do home visits, we had to drive to Sandy's Hair Studio the morning of the wedding. Ping brought her supplies over so that hair and makeup could be done in the same place. Their service was faster than we had expected since there were a couple of hair stylists working at the same time; we finished in less than 3 hours. They had requested for photos of each person's hair and face prior to the day of the wedding, which may have contributed to the efficiency during the day of our visit. As for hair, we all had up-dos. Given my extremely thick hair, I was impressed at the skill required to style my hair in such a way that the hairstyle can hold up throughout the course of the busy day. My hairstyle lasted all day in almost its original condition, until I decided it was time to take it down. All of the girls were happy with the hairstyles that were done for them, and the resulting up-dos complemented each girl nicely. They also did a good job on our makeup. It was natural enough that we didn't look scary when people are standing close to us, unlike some makeup jobs that require heavy makeup for optimal capture by photograph. However, we did look similar enough before and after the make up that I'm not sure it was really worth $65. An additional discount would have been nice. Overall, it was a good experience with Sandy and Ping. I definitely recommend them despite their high prices, considering their prices are lower than a lot of other providers of wedding hair/make up. They are also experienced with asian hair and makeup, which contributed to good results in the end. read more

I've been going to Sandy for almost 20 years. She's never given me a bad haircut. She knows how to handle my somewhat Asian hair. She's quiet, efficient, and very talented. read more

Sandy is The best hair stylist in the area. The place is also well organized to maintain safety during covid.

I had a horrible experience here- the cost of a haircut is arbitrary. I've been told that haircuts for women are $20-30 plus tip, but today mine was $40 plus tip, which I should not even paid for a mediocre haircut. First, my hair was washed and shampooed, or in other words, my head was knocked around in a sink and scratched roughly. Then my haircut- please this is my hair, I want it to stay on my head when you brush it. No one asks you for your name, or talks to you. You have to pay in cash which is inconvenient. I will not be here again. Overpriced, and not a positive experience at all. read more

I've been going to Sandy's place a few times over the past few years, and her price has always been very consistent, and my friends who went there get the same price. However, when I went this time in a nice new sweater and bag for the holidays, she decided that the same haircut and deep conditioning I usually get is worth $15 dollars more, with 6 dollar cleaning fee (she charges 3 for others), plus $10 dollars extra for tip. When I asked about the price increase, she maintains that the price has stayed the same as always. I feel like I'm being treated like a sucker who deserves to pay the 30% extra based on my clothes. Very dishonest and unprofessional. read more

My boyfriend and I both visited this place and got haircuts from Nini. She may seem young but she knows exactly how to cut the hair based on the customer's request. During the haircut, she will also provide tips on how to maintain the haircut as the style grows out and how to keep your hair healthy. She doesn't advertise products like a lot of hair dressers do. Instead, she actually teaches you the techniques as she does it, like blow drying your hair a certain way to achieve a look. read more

I've been going to Ben for several years now following a friend's recommendation. Before Ben, I barber hopped for years, frequenting certain salons, but never consistently happy with the cuts I got. And while there's a slight language barrier, Ben is the only barber I've been to who really gets what I want, and does consistently great cuts that grow out well. I never feel rushed when I go to him either, which is a problem I had when I went to some bigger/busier salons. In my mind, that's well worth the trip up-county every few months. read more
