In a prior consultation and right before my service, I explained I wanted a keratin without aldehyde or formaldehyde. I have a respiratory disorder and did not want to be exposed to toxic fumes. I was given a formaldehyde treatment. I know this because the stylist insisted I wait three days before washing, a step which is unnecessary with the milder non formaldehyde versions. My hair came out stick straight. I look awful. It has no body and I cannot get it to hold a curl. The solution without formaldehyde produces a more natural result and leaves the hair with body and the ability to curl it. When I called to complain, I was told that next time, the stylist would use what I asked for! Importantly, the keratin treatment was not done in a separate area of the salon nor was there any special equipment to catch the fumes. The lady sitting in the next chair was subjected to the formaldehyde fumes without any awareness. In short, the procedure was not done in a safe environment for me or those around me. My roots were clearly showing when I had my procedure. I was not told that it is best to wait four weeks after the keratin to color roots. I looked it up online. There is no way I can wait four weeks when I was due for a touchup in one week after my treatment. The same stylist had done my roots four weeks before the procedure. The color was much too light. The last time my roots were done using a different stylist, she had the shampoo lady apply my color. When I questioned why an unlicensed person was applying my color, she told me the applier was working under her license. You cannot assign a license to one who did not earn one themselves. This same person cut my hair after the keratin treatment. When I questioned why I had to wait three days to wash my hair when the formaldehyde free versions did not require this, she said it lasts longer. This is not true. I washed my hair after two days and will color my hair after one week. I am hoping the treatment will not last. Pin straight flat hair is not a good look for me. I am embarrassed to leave the house. The salon was a huge disappointment! read more

I requested light natural caramel highlights. I previously box dyed my hair red (which i should not have) and it was really hard to get the red out of my hair, but BELLA and Elsa worked their magic . Bella is amazing!!!!! She always finds a way to make me feel and look more beautiful and confident. I really really recommend Bella, she can cut anyone's hair and is very diverse. I have mixed (black-white) and after years of having it damaged by stylists who were trained to manage this type of hair, Veronica not only healed my hair but educated me on how and what to use, and brought my hair back to what it is now: ThIck, long, round curls, past my shoulders (coming from ear length, damaged hair). Carolina does a wonderful job washing, conditioning, massaging the scalp and managing the toner, and sets up Veronica to do her magic. Veronica does it all exceptionally: Color, cutting, BLOW-drying and styling. WHY! are stylists not trained in blow-drying thick, frizzy hair! My 1st blow-dry w Veronica, I was in awe. 30 minutes. Smooth, shiny, not a frizz in sight. I am so grateful I found her. It's been 25 years and I always tease her that if she moves, she better expect a quarterly visit, as no one else is touching my hair! I had such a great experience with John (and everyone!) at New Wave Salon! He first did my mom's hair and I couldn't believe how great she looked so I had to go see for myself. He asked me questions about how I prefer my hair (including do I mind hair in my face? Do I like to be able to wear it up? Etc) and then created a plan to achieve it. He didn't make me feel badly about using box dye or trimming my own hair, just met me where I was. He also didn't push any products, he just explained what he was doing as he was doing it. He is such a genuinely kind person and so talented at what he does. This salon also employs shampoo staff who do a fantastic scalp and neck massage while washing your hair. Everything was wonderful. I went in to dye my hair and get a blowout. I was greeted by two lovely ladies at front and made me feel upmost comfortable! The hairdresser did her job very professionally and reasonably fast which I appreciated. However at times I was left alone and kind of had to wait a few minutes which I don't mind unless it's extensive. But that is expected when getting your hair dyed. Mimi styled my curly hair and gave me some good advice on what my hair needs and so on. I heavily appreciated everything they offered such as coffee, water, and bagels! I went to New Wave for the first time over the weekend. It's a beautiful salon. The front desk was very friendly, welcomed me and gave me a tour. It was very busy with lots of customers which is always a good sign when you find a new salon. Danny was my stylist and he is excellent. Very warm and easy to talk with. He listened to me and asked for pictures of what I wanted to have done. I decided to get a perm because my hair is straight and flat. He worked with Anna to get the perm done. Anna was so nice and friendly. She went out of her way to make me feel comfortable. Danny has years of experience and has good judgement about what would work for your hair. So I already come here for my regular cuts, Mirian is my stylist and I really like her. She even does my daughter's hair now. But this review is for a fix job. I decided to highlight my own hair. I am a brunette and my highlights came out orange ... like carrot top orange. Not good! I purchased three different blue shampoos to tone down the brassiness and after four weeks, none of them worked. I still wanted my highlights and didn't want to just dye over my entire hair. So I made an emergency call to fix my mess. I went in, and Jackie took care of me, asked me what I was looking for and mixed her magic concoction to make me look beautiful again!
