This location is rather a hit or miss on making keys. I have had 2 keys made here that didn't work when I got home. The staff is friendly but it's frustrating when the key won't even work. Besides keys the staff is usually very personable and is happy to assist customers. read more

Went to buy a respirator mask today. Craig said they only had one which was more than I was willing to pay. Told him I had seen a few others on their website. He offered to look it up. I said yes and thanked him. The then proceeded to help another (only 2 of us in the store and other sales people). I stood waiting and he left. I thought he was checking the computer until I heard him standing and bullsh*** with another salesman. As I was leaving I apologized for making him help a customer, which he didn't. My husband used to rave about the salespeople. Maybe that is only true if you are a man. I tried to buy something and give them money. Guess they didn't want it. read more

Pipes pillars and paint There are a whole lot of Ace Hardware stores and most of them are convenient and cool places to find stuff. Small enough to be personal but large enough to have lots of different thingies, doo dads and whatchamacallits. This one is no exception. They have all kinds of things that you might need for your house or yard and probably a whole lot of stuff that you will never need or want. Also have a discount table where you can find things that someday might or might not come in useful but for a buck or two you can afford to be daring. The staff here usually knows their stuff and can direct you to the thingie that you need quickly. It can get a bit crowded at times and the service kind of slow but they can't really help that. Always a cool place to go when you need a special something or if you just want to poke around and see some cool tools to get ideas. read more

Running a Special on Covid I have shopped at this ACE for over 10 years now and have found the selection of products good and the assistance of the staff excellent! It's one of my favorite neighborhood places and I'm a regular. In response to the dangers of the pandemic, the management posted a note on the entrance door advising customers that they must wear a mask and that the staff are doing so as well. Unfortunately about half of the staff are now wearing their masks below their nose and patrons are allowed to shop without masks at all, if they choose to, and they do. I have been exposed to mask-less patrons over the last four visits. All of these stores are so tightly organized with product isles, that adequate distancing is difficult so masks are especially important in this kind of environment. Yesterday, while I was checking out, a gentleman stopped at the entrance and very responsibly declared that he had forgotten his mask and would happily purchase one if needed for entrance. The young man at the service counter next to the door immediately announced that "You don't need to." That's enough. I have sadly decided to shop at Lowe's from now on. My wife is immunocompromised and I just can't risk my family's health for the irresponsible and dangerous behavior that is now consistent here. I will remember this long after the pandemic has passed. So disappointing. I would never risk anyone's well-being like this. So long Ace. read more

I recently had a bad service experience at "Sanford Ace" near my house and wrote a yelp review. I immediately got a response from the owner who jumped all over the problem. Imagine my chagrin when I realized that I yelped the wrong Sanford Ace company/owner. Well let me tell you, if the owner of the store I did go to cared like THIS owner I would have not had a problem. I don't think I've had a BETTER follow up on a yelp EVER. Customer Service, EXTRAORDINAIRE. Now sadly, the owner of this Ace sent my original problem to the owner of the store I went to on Rt. 46 and I've not so much as heard a peep from that guy. This store is an enigma. I've been coming here for almost nine years and I still have mixed feelings. We own a 100 year old home in downtown Sanford so trips to the hardware store and Lowe's are a weekly occurrence. Ace is more conveniently located but I still find myself driving past it on my way to the Lowe's 3 miles away. There's a number of reasons for this. Selection is a big deciding factor and I understand there's nothing they can do about that. Ace just isn't set up to have something for everyone and that's great. If they have what you need you can get in and out way faster than a big box store. Unfortunately they often don't have what I need. The fastener department is usually my source of annoyance. First, they don't want you to use self service so if you're playing by the rules that slows you down. Second, here's where selection hurts them. I was building a gate out of pressure treated wood and I needed 2 inch wood screws that wouldn't corrode in that kind of lumber. They didn't have coated screws. I could either pay premium for brass or I could buy the cheap screws I knew would be corroding in no time. They do have a very small but nice garden center. It's about the size of one aisle at Lowe's but everything is green and they usually are running a very good sale on some 1-3 gallon shrub or plant. The staff is another mystery. They tend to fall into two different modes. The counter help is almost always super friendly and pleasant. Once you're past them it's a bit dicey. At times the small town feel bleeds into a mood that is standoffish. You may get a guy who's going to bend over backwards to make you happy or you may get someone who's a bit bugged you don't know exactly what you came in for. There's an employee who works in the fasteners who falls into the later category. He's an older gentleman who can be so unpleasant I'll sometimes just turn around when I see him. That's a situation in which I know that the staff at Lowe's will be way more helpful. I'll keep coming here. They are generally pleasant and the location is very convenient. Plus they have dog food too! However, Lowe's selection and staff will get the lion's share of my business. read more

When I first went into the store many years ago, I needed some parts to replace the flush valve toilet. There was one left on the metal rod, so I slid it off and was shocked that I was able to write my name in the film of dust that was on the cardboard. And then wondered how long that thing had been in stock and whether the pliability of the rubber and gaskets would even be sufficient because it was old stock that had laying around so long. I don't know if they still do it, but I did get once a screen for my window by just bringing in the old ripped one for measurements, which ace does & The big box stores do not (they have the materials and you have to cut and build them yourself). I like paying a little bit more and letting someone else do it so I don't make mistakes. Other than me getting some mulch here once in a while when it goes on a good sale, this might be a really good place to find that odd piece of something that the big box stores just don't carry and feel it's too small for them to make money on. I've never had anyone approach me as being the helpful hardware folks or anything like you see on the commercials, but maybe that's reserved only for how they approach men who they think are likely going to spend more money on bigger things than a woman walking into a store. All I know is every time I walked in and was quizzically/intentionally looking for something on the shelves, no one even looked me in the eye let alone asked if they could help me, but they did so to the men who walked in. Also, I see on some commercials that ace hardware store can be quite a huge location judging by some of the buildings I see in the photos, but be aware that this is a tiny ace hardware, and isn't a huge building like the others but more of a type of structure you see for metal storage shed facilities. I also noticed they have a site to store feature if you shop online, so if that helps you out and you're not in a hurry for things and you want something they stock that the big box stores do not, you might be in luck if this Ace Hardware is closer to your house. read more

So happy that they are close by and carry Valspar, love not having to drive to a big box store for good paint selection. They don't compete with the others on quantity of gadgets and gizmos but are great for basics. They'll continue to get my business for normal household maintenance and DIY. read more

Went to the Sanford Ace today by Sanford Airport for screws. All the screws are sold individually so you need to write the price down as you choose the screws and bag them. No pens were available and the sales person was nowhere to be found. I went to the register and told her I needed screws, no pens no sales help.. All she said was oh, no pens back there. I told her I guess I would have to go to Home D. since I could not get help. She replied I don't want you to go to Home D. but did not offer me any additional service so I walked out. I then went back inside and spoke with a manager. He told me they don't provide pens and there should be someone to write the prices down for me. Well there was not anyone to help me and the manager did nothing to assist. I left without my screws and went to Lowe's. Sucks cause I drove from Altamonte just to go to this ACE. What should have happened ? The cashier should have called someone to assist me. The manager should have called someone to assist me or he should have assisted me himself. All the manager spent more time with excuses than he would have just helping me. read more
