This is a horrible gas station. I put my card into the pump and it got stuck, and I couldn't get it out. When I went inside to get help, the cashier handed me a pair of huge pliers like it was a normal part of the process. If you already know the pump has an issue--and you have pliers ready for it--you should tape off the card slot instead of letting customers ruin their cards. Because I had to pull my card out with pliers, the tap function is now damaged and no longer works. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere else. read more

They charged $31 (keep in mind we asked them for the cheapest option) for a hand wash but used a very strong power wash at the start. My understanding for hand washes is that they are supposedly more gentle than a machine wash. They didn't use the machine at all that they actually have but turned it off. The power wash peeled the paint off my car. I honestly would have been okay with the wash if they showed more sympathy and accountability for peeling the paint off my car, but they didn't . *** PAY INSIDE BEFORE CAR WASH *** There were no signs what so ever stating that we need to pay inside before going into the car wash. Signs all points toward the back of a building for the car wash but no indication where you pay (creepy and it looks like driving into a trap). I don't think we were wrong to assume that we pay the machine before heading into the wash but basically found out once we're in, thank goodness we were able to back out to pay for the wash. $10 for a wash with some soapy spray. There's a stopper in the middle of the wash so when you drive forward to get the car blown dry, be careful. This wash doesn't really get the back of cars well, sedan and hatchback both left the wash with the back still dirty. Finally Thoughts: If you can, just go to another one. We were lazy and thought what's the worst that can happen... meh. I think sprinklers and a squeegee can do better. read more

Came back 30 min later, with a "Sorry". People were coming in for an inspection, waiting 15, and after seeing no mechanic, they would leave. How about a discount for that terrible service? Nope. Attendant was just as bad. She wouldn't even turn her head as you walked in. She sat there watching TV/cell, and wouldn't turn her head until she was done with it. I have come here for years for SMOG testing my fleet of family vehicles. John, the mechanic is very kind & helpful. He explains what he is doing and discusses any errors or OBD faults clearly, making suggestions how to procede to fix & pass smog. I have had no trouble here. Its the 21st century in the heart of Silicon Valley and you find this little gas station on prime location next to Hwy 101, Montague Expressway, next to the Biltmore Hotel and right across from Intel headquarters. This place is like stuck in time. While other gas stations like 76, Shell, Mobil, BP even Rotten Robbies are selling gas from spanking new modern gas pumps with food marts stocked like Walmarts, this place hasn't changed since the 80's. It's mart tries to sell everything from Lotto to condoms, shades to cigarettes, milk to shampoo, bananas to bandanas. Markup is about 50% and higher. The rest room certainly haven't been fixed nor cleaned for at least 3 decades. Be very careful if you need to use it, otherwise the Biltmore next door is more sanitary. The garage is just as bad....very untidy. Cob-webs and grease all over. This place can afford to sell the most expensive gas gallon-for-gallon in the bay area. read more

She told me to call the service number as I did and that ended up for maintenance only. I come here possibly twice a week when I pick up my girlfriend from work in that area. I come here to maybe buy some cigerettes or if needed to get gas. But I have stopped since a couple of weeks ago. I go in as usual, noone inside except the same man at 5 PM like any other day. The interesting concept on how all the clerks here rush you through swiping your credit card and pressing all the keys for you. However, you see many options such as that is a $1 to charge , and they auto press it for you. I told the guy, hold on, I want cash back, how did you know if I did or not. He says ok how much do you want, I said I would like 20 bucks back, So I typed in $20.00 and he said no no no , that is wrong. We are going to charge you $1.75 for the cash withdrawel. I said Ok that`s fine, he said no, you need to add an additional $1.75 to the amount needed in the num pad . First off, the first question for charging was automated for Credit Card charge, however this particular they wanted to only give me $18,75 in cash ? This didn`t seem right. Seriously overpriced. It's one of the few gas stations on the main road which I why it probably gets away with it, but my husband and I stopped going. Definitely worth going out of the way. I have a 17 gallon tank. This place is usually 10-20 cents higher than everywhere else. I fill up usually every week or every other week. That's about $120 a year in savings. read more

I live nearby, and I needed the 18mm bolt to plug the hole in my exhaust pipe because when I tried to replace the O2 sensor the thread broke and I couldn't plug it with the new O2 sensor. I walked to Santa Clara Valero from my home 3 miles away. The mechanic there is an extremely nice man. He helped me and found the old bolt of the type I needed. The worst gas station I know of. Seriously sitting here thinking about how much I hate when I'm forced to use this station so I thought I'd write a review. One, it's one of the most expensive gas stations around. Two, this place totally pumps light. Like it's obvious this place doesn't pump as much as other gas stations pump for the same price. Like I need to bring a gas can and record myself pumping gas bc they totally cheat. I've worked by this place for years and only come in an absolute emergency and then just enough to get to the next gas station. Third the service is horrendous! Like they make you want to regret ever coming! The lady in the morning is so rude, like not restart the air machine even if you already payed for a round rude, or make you walk inside the store rather then accept money from the open window/drawer she's sitting right next to! It is a California state law that air for your tires is free everywhere. I visited this Valero because after class I noticed I had a very flat tire. I went inside the shop at Valero an asked he lady to turn on the air. She told me no and demanded a dollar. After purchasing the air I realized the situation was not right. I went back inside and told her about the California state law that states air is free. After her constantly telling me I was wrong I asked various other customers who went into the shop and they all told her air is free. She kept refusing so I asked to talk to the owner. He told me it was for customers only and returned to his phone call as if I ( his customers ) weren't important. This insulted me. I felt that just because I am a young collage girl he didn't see the importance of my complaint and didn't take me seriously. Both the store clerk and owner were extremely rude. Call the police!!!! I have never been treated the way the gas tenant at 2181 Laurelwood Road treated me; nor has anyone ever manipulated my transaction like she did. I literally saw my amount paid per gallon adjust just as the transaction ended. My transaction also kept on being declined, even though I had more than enough money in my account. It all started when I parked at the pump and felt the urgent need to go to the restroom before pumping gas. However the Indian woman tenant said that the bathroom was out of order. I asked if there was a public restroom near by to use. She said she did not know, that I needed to find that out on my own. Thus, I asked her what restroom she uses. To that she said that that she could not disclose that information. Therefoe, I said thank you and walked to the nearest building in search of a restroom. This meant leaving my car parked at the pump that I was fully intending to use after using the restroom. I came back to pump gas and as I was checking my oil the tenant came out yelling at me, accusing me of using the property as a parking lot for mechanics, calling me names and saying that this was not a homeless shelter. She threatened to have my car towed and began taking pictures of it to give me a ticket. I was scared for my safety. She was loud, enraged and in my face. I got in my car and called the police. While waiting for the police I tried pumping gas but my transaction kept on being cancelled and the screen would say, "see tenant." I pumped 11 gallons for 42 dollars then 18 gallons for 64 dollars. Never before has this been the case. She was manipulating the pump I was using. The Santa Clara police came after I had finished pumping gas and I let them know that I suspected that she interfered with my gas transactions in some way because I had never ever pumped $105 into my car out of Valero never and never again will I pump gas out of Valero again because I was treated inhumane disrespectfully and money was stolen from me I strongly suggest that you have a word with the people that you lend your name and reputation. I am writing this review about the mechanic shop of this gas station. I fully agree with some of the other reviewers that although smog check here is costlier by around 10-15% over other similar places, in return you get good service worth what you pay for. I did my car's smog check yesterday here and Vahid (who looks more like a philosopher!) did an amazing job to first explain to me all the options, and then advised me on some other problem that my car had and even gave me referral to other mechanics near my house. I recommend Vahid, as it worth paying little extra for a professional who knows his job well. My review may be little biased, as I really enjoyed his conversation and his clear and simple approach in letting me know how to take care of my car. read more

My wife and I stopped by here over the weekend because her tire pressure was low and we were heading up the freeway. When I asked for air the attendant would not turn on the air and would only do so if we bought gas. We had a full tank and no change. The air was $1.00! Ummm, There are 4 things I require of a gas station and you will have me as a customer for life. 1. Reasonably priced gas 2. Air 3. Water 4. Clean Soapy windshield washing fluid with a Squeegee. There's a middle eastern guy that likes to talk on the phone and he doesn't pay attention sometimes. I went here one night, ordered my cigarettes and he gave me two and charged me for one! Clean, busy station with 8 pumps, a small convenience store and smog check shop. Easy access from eastbound Montague Expressway. The only place to fill up in the area, so they can get $4.16 compared to the Valero on El Camino and Halford at $3.96. They get one star for price gouging. read more

I read some of the comments about the mechanic here, John, and to be honest, if you came here once on an off day, it really is a shame. My family has been coming to him for years and he's really the best mechanic I've been to. He never fails to notice every single detail and will check everything including breaks, fluids, tire pressure, etc, all included in the price of an oil change. ($35) You should call ahead of time to check that he's available, otherwise don't just pop in, you might not get service or have to wait for a while. He is only one guy, after all. Also, come earlier in the morning, he's less busy then. John is a very knowledgeable mechanic, if there's anything going on with your car, he'll at least give you a diagnostic, if not fix it for you altogether. read more

Went to get a car wash and I asked a question only to get attitude from the employees. Can I read signs? Yes but if you're in customer service you should be able to help people without being rude. Will not be returning since the car wash was not good. It only cleans the sides and not the front, back, or top of vehicle. Overall horrible experience. read more
