We had some last minute work on a family member's car. They got it in the next morning, changed oil, filled the Freon for the air conditioning, and realized a dangerous situation with the ball joint and tires. My breaks did not work. Pedal was totally stiff and I almost crashed in the Target parking lot. Very scary obviously. I have been a customer here over 10 years. Way over. I even got my brother to start being their customer many years ago. They said my breaks were fixed. But soon after I almost crashed coming off the Morrissey exIt DOWN A HILL. I almost hit a huge touring bus. Had to skid with my emergency break to the side of the road. It was the EXACT same problem; break pedal was hard and would not go down at all. I called them from the side of the road and the owner had an attitude with me! I could easily have died and at the last crashed my car. He supposedly fixed them himself once I got towed in... again. I never got an apology. Am told it was a bad wheel bearing issue. But I read online that is often noticed when sounds come from your tire area. I ALREADY supposedly had this issue and fixed the wheel bearings. I recall being told at a service that my wheel bearings were bad. They claimed they heard noise which I did not But I got that fixed. Or I thought. AND THEN MY BREAKS FAILED. And so, I paid for breaks to be fixed i.e wheel bearing thing again. It took them 3 times to fix my wheel bearings but I still have no idea if they are actually fixed. How can I know? If they didn't do it the first 2 times? I just called them to find out when I last had work done/where I am on my maintenance schedule and am told they ONLY have my brother on record with out last name. The gal Lindsey says they changed over to a new system 3 yrs ago. I guess they threw away all of my many years of records. I am trying to find a new mechanic. And wanted to know where I am on maintenance schedule. It has been less than 3 yrs since I went and being I was a long time customer it would be odd to just delete me. Breaks are THE most important part of the car. You can easily die without working breaks. I had trusted them for years and that situation was horrifying. I still have flashbacks and am scared my breaks will fail AGAIN. Who was the mechanic that supposedly fixed my breaks the first time? Did they even do anything about them not repairing my breaks? Dave is a guy who says it is fixed so you pay him and then you realize it is not actually fixed. Dave even says, 'oh yeah I even drove the truck myself it is all dialed in." Don't believe him because it's not true. He over charges for his services and at the end of the day I recommend you find someone else to fix you're vehicle. Finally, the week that we are moving from Santa Cruz, we found a great mechanic! If only I would have found Dave 4 years ago I would probably have spent hundreds less on my car. My rusty car that has survived many Pennsylvania winters and 150,000 miles needed A LOT of work. It didn't pass smog, and another shop gave a quote that seemed very expensive. We took it to Dave, who called us back a few hours later with a much better quote. The air intake boot was cracked open which was causing the oxygen sensors to not work. The other shop insisted that we needed to have the oxygen sensors replaced, but Dave figured that the (much cheaper) intake boot was causing the oxygen sensors to code and he was right! He saved us several hundred dollars. Additionally, this place is QUICK. 24 hour turn around time to battle with my rusted car (tie-rods?), get an alignment, replace the timing belt and all related parts, and to fix the air intake boot. I am now going to go on a joy ride in my working car!! read more

Dave Kranich runs an honest and high quality shop. After getting high quotes for brakes jobs on 3 of our 4 cars, we went to Dave and he was more than half the price of other local car repair shops. Dave *is* the man. I take all my cars to him but for the porsche boxster which goes to FastLane. Dave is honest, fair and does great work. He's diagnosed and maintained my daughter's jeep, our Lincoln Continental and especially our aging 1996 Infinity Q45, being very helpful and practical about what's worth doing and what we can get by without. An example of his service was the intermittent speedometer on this vehicle. When everything indicated a problem with the speed sensor, one was ordered and installed. When subsequently the solution turned out to be something else, he reinstalled my original sensor, returned the part and refunded all labor to the tune of $336. read more

Awesome! I would give a million stars if I could. Was referred by a mechanic friend that doesn't work on Ford's. I needed to have my key fob looked at and switched to a different outer shell, while still using the "guts" from my original fob. Too chicken to do it myself as the dealership only sold me the car with one key. They had Ryan (super quick and awesome) do it for me. See, I was thinking it was a lost cause because my locks on the car were going off on their own as well as the alarm. In fact, just last night (before I went to Dave's) the keys were accidentally locked inside and I had to call AAA. On this specific car, they're not (supposed) to be able to have the keys lock inside car. Anyway, they fixed it for me!!! Apparently my old and original fobs little metal prongs inside, were all jacked up. Not anymore! Thank you Ryan, Lindsey and Dave. I definitely have found my new car fix it place!! You guys rule. Dave is the man. He'll tell you when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em. When you fold 'em, he'll give you great advice as to what new car to get and how to find it. Our family has been going to Auto Tech for many, many years and we'll never go anywhere else. After hours drop off is great. During an interim of "singlehood", I referred to Dave as my "surrogate car husband". When planning to trade in my car, I brought multiple cars that I was considering for purchase to him to review. He was quick to tell me which were good buys and which were lemons (some even from dealerships!) I love this place. Over the year's we've taken a Geo Prism with 200K miles, a newer model Jetta, a Honda Element and a 1966 Dodge A108 to Dave. His team has worked on them all in stride. They are always friendly, prompt and professional. When I first started going to Dave's I was a single mom, broke as all get out (these were the Geo Prism days). Having an honest mechanic you can trust in that situation is huge. More recently I brought the Jetta to another mechanic for convenience sake (the alternate mechanic is one block from my house). The mechanic was obnoxiously rude, talked down to me throughout the entire interaction, and quoted $750 for what I needed done. I had such a bad feeling from them that I paid the $70 for the assessment, walked out and drove the extra 10 miles to Auto Tech. Dave did the same job, but for closer to $500, and with all of the professionalism the other place lacked. Can't recommend this place enough. read more

Dave and his crew have done a great job with maintaining my F250 Diesel. His price is always fair and he takes the time to explain all the options on repairs and recommend the best option for the situation. He really knows Ford diesels as he has one himself. I went in to have my transmission and cooling system serviced and I happened to mention to him that after a shop in San Francisco had worked on my brakes the cruise control stopped working. He said he thought he knew what it might be, got under the dash right then and there and reconnected the vacuum release switch on the brake pedal.
