Golden State Solar - Tesla Powerwall 3 with Gateway 3

    Golden State Solar

I had an absolutely outstanding experience with Golden State Solar and I would recommend them to…read morefriends and family without hesitation! When I first inquired, Tim (the owner) reached out and scheduled a consultation/evaluation of my existing system for the following day. He arrived on time, was professional and very knowledgeable. He sent me over a couple different proposals that he believed would be best for me and my usage. I reached out to competing companies to test the market and one company found out that I was on a different NEM standard than we previously thought. This discovery made me second guess getting solar for the time being. I reached out to Tim and he said that he estimated I would still need to upgrade but that I could give it a few months to see how my energy bills were in the winter and early spring. To say he was right was an understatement! My bills went from $60 to over $300 some months. Now that I knew that adding to my system was worth it and had more information, I reached back out to Tim. He didn't miss a beat in suggesting a system that maximized my output and didn't break the bank. (Mind you, he spent hours going back and forth with me answering questions and concerns I had) Ultimately, I chose to go with Tim because of his expertise (he was an electrician prior to starting Golden State Solar), professionalism, customer service and honesty. He never pushed me to make a decision and gave me multiple options that he believed were best. The permit and installation process were painless and completed within a couple months (mostly waiting for the permit). The system drastically increased my solar output and I couldn't be more happy with my choice to go with Golden State Solar!

Tim, Nick, and their team installed our new system within just a few days. My home initially had…read moreonly the bare minimum solar setup required for new builds, and Tim was able to seamlessly integrate the new panels with the existing ones, adding a battery in the process. Other companies I contacted said they couldn't work with my existing system, but Tim made it happen. The entire process, from consultation to installation was quick and straightforward. After installation, one panel showed as offline. The team promptly replaced the microinverter, but the system still wasn't performing optimally. They came back out and replaced the panel, ensuring everything was working as it should. Recently, I noticed an error with one of the microinverters on the app. I reached out to Tim, and he responded within a day to resolve the issue.

We needed to add panels because we purchase an EV and needed more solar to offset PG&E. The impeccable experience started with Art the consultant, he gave 4 scenarios and explained in detail what each means and provided detail report including all the tech details and break even timing. To be honest, it was too much for me, I really just wanted pricing and how long it takes to install haha but was good to know he has such knowledge and I was confident he is looking out for my best interest. Then we had Patrick the PM, arrived for site inspection on time and courteous and explained the whole process. Then come the impressive installation team Luis, Alberto and Kevin. The 3 arrived on time and with smiles, just overall a great vibe from them. Luis walked me through the installation plan and gave a few choices taking into consideration aesthetics of the house and then got to work. 4 hours later, clean line, fine craftsmanship and symmetrical matching placement from last system is in place and ready to tangle with PG&E (attaching some photos) I really really can't recommend any higher to go with Clean Solar on your solar projects. Seamless is what you'll experience with them. Until next time Clean Solar!

Btw I was going to bump this review to a 4 but working with Nick we decided on 5.** We had a complicated full house renovation this year and signed with Clean Solar for either the Tesla tiles or solar panels and we ended up choosing solar panels + Tesla power walls. I want to give special thanks (and the only reason why I didn't give a 0 star) and appreciation to the members listed as they deserved beyond 5 stars Bill, Nick, Jeremy, Rodger, Louis, Kevin, Albert, Alberto, Carl (CEO). Bill was amazing and helpful in explaining the process and helping us secure the initial funding. You are probably wondering why I am giving this solar company a 3 star. Well it takes 1 bad apple to ruin a team and this is the case. A three day project ended up taking 3+ weeks & we understand that the workload is extremely busy this time of year. However when 1 person is acting unprofessional, crossing the line, asking homeowners to borrow a usb cable to charge their cell phone, super loud, tries to impress (why), doesn't listen to clients (would walk away in mid conversation), act as if he is the owner of the company, talks way too much (not in a good way), talking about his side hustle business, a bit juvenile, not completing and complaining about the job in front of clients plus not showing up when he said he would to complete the job, leaving tools at the site and asking the homeowners to put it in their garage until he returns to pick it up, calls in sick last minute leaving the load to other team members plus more well then this becomes a problem and 0 stars (if possible) especially the amount of money you invest into this project. We also requested that this person not show up again but they kept sending him back. At the end of the project half of the Tesla walls were connected and working but the other half wasn't connecting. At one point our bedrooms electricity didn't work, it wasn't the breakers and Nick was awesome enough to take our after hours call and help us manually override those other 2 disconnected wall panels. The dream team (Nick, Kevin and Albert) resolved the connection and all is working now. Also, Nick stayed late to make sure our Tesla walls were configured and updated properly. Plus , a shout out to Jeremy for staying late as well to help fix a broken issue. Feedback: Organize a team that works well together to effectively complete the project. Provide sexual harassment training (this is excluding people listed here). If a female client doesn't feel comfortable with a person don't resend them back. Also if a homeowner (regardless of being the wife) calls and leaves a message please out of courtesy call back after all I am the client, work and pay the bills too (even though this is my husband's project).

Scott at Solar Electric Supply gave me outstanding support and advice as I constructed my 14.4KW…read morearray for an off grid homestead. After creating my load table and modeling summer and winter pier needs, then PVWATTS to model solar array performance settled on a~14 kw stationary ground mount arrays. Shopping solar panels I chose REC for their technology, longevity, physical load strength, thermal characteristics and began searching for best deals to get them. Here's the first phase of contact with SES. Scott helped select the family of REC panels. He also knew the particulars of the Sol-Ark inverter I had selected. He urged me to buy the family of panels in quantities of 36, 40, or 44 to "balance the system". I knew not what he meant then and bought 40 REC NP2 360W at a great deal. He suggested I buy a few extra as spares but I suspected he was adding fluff to the invoice and passed (he was not adding fluff as events unfolded). The 40 panels arrived and the array installed. Then a 100 year ice storm hit and a tree toppled destroying only one panel. The suggestion of extra spare panels was for inevitable hail, ice, causing a need for replacement. The reason I had gotten such a good deal was the end of REC making that panel in 360 watt size. The same family continues but in larger wattage and larger physical dimensions. I could not buy an NP2 that would physically fit in that space The array would need to be partially disassembled, and an over sized panel fitted to the end without end support (the metal support wasn't long enough to expand to longer lengths. Scott found a different family of REC panels at 365W abd similar voltage and current characteristics with slightly different thermals abd the same rugged construction. But he didn't have any instock yet had heard of a trailer load that had sold a few months prior. I found that buyer and got a close out deal from him (in New Mexico) and bought replacement plus extras to fit my arrays exact dimensions. As an aside, the shipment of these panels had 2 destroyed in shipping which I heard was common with solar panels but did not happen with Solar Electric Supply's packaging abd shipper selection. Months later I'm getting ready to wire the array and studied the Sol-Arks MPPT specs and saw that 4 strings wired in series gave voltage in the sweet spot of the Sol-Ark 15 MPPT charge controller then combining these in parallel hit the sweet spot of current for the Sol-Ark 15 MPPT. The 4x10 array minimized the lengths of wire running from the ends of the strings to a combined box. This is what Scott meant by "balanced" and behind his encouragement of making the array in multiples of 4. So I called Scott a third time about the parallel connection and he quickly educated me on the perils of 350V DC connections and the need for a combiner box, grounding of arrays and the box separately, DC circuit breaker, and surge protectors. Stuff he does not sell!!! Referred me to Midnight Solar where I got the bits and pieces to build the combiner box. It's all together now and works seamlessly. Every bit of advice Scott gave was spot on the bullseye and made the project SO much easier. I trust Scott and Solar Electric Supply for tech support, delivery support, fair pricing, industry and market knowledge, and exemplary customer service. You can too.

Installing it myself cost less than half what solar contractors quoted and my system paid for itself in four years given CA's insanely high power prices. I am very happy with it. SES carries top product lines and their support far exceeded my expectations. Bill was there every step of the way for me, answering questions and offering advice. A panel was damaged on my ground-mount system a few weeks ago and Scott was super helpful and went out of his way to help me find a replacement panel with the exact same dimensions as my existing panels...and he didn't even carry that panel! My experience with SES, start-to-finish and post-sale support, was excellent. I will use them again on future projects and I regularly recommend them to friends interested in solar.
