Not satisfied with my recent visit. Had a great experience at a different location, so wanted to try Santa Fe in Hammond. All 7 of our drinks were flat, and they only had carbonated water. Why didn't a manager run to Sam's or somewhere and get a bunch of bottles or cans of drinks if they knew they were having probs with drink machine? I ordered shrimp tacos which were supposed to come dressed with corn, black beans, coleslaw, and a ranch sauce on the taco. But what is placed on the table is a tortilla with ONLY shrimp and coleslaw inside and CHILI beans on the side... totally not what was described on the menu. Also, about 5 minutes before our food came out, waitress comes back to tell us they are out of mashed potatoes. About 3 of us had to change the side. Just not a good experience at all. read more

Two weeks ago trip waitress was awful. Waited forever for her to just get ti us. Then downhill from there. Server brought Food out and hadn't even gotten our salad or rolls yet. Had to ask server. Waitress no where ti be seen. No silverware so we wait there with a plate of food until the waitress finally brings out our salads and tray of 3 rolls and then we can ask her for silverware. We finished our meal and had never seen her again until we were done. Brought us our check and finally got to ask her for a refill and a few more rolls. Got our refill but never got more rolls. They weren't out because other Thales around us with better waitresses were getting them with no problem. Last week. Was hoping I didn't get the same waitress. Got a different young waitress and she was great. So I know this place is capable. Today. Go in at 12:30 on a Saturday. Not busy. Sit and get drinks. Young male waiter says he gonna bring our rolls. Sit for a while and he comes back to get our order. I remind him about the rolls and he turns and ask evidently a manager on how long the rolls should be. She informs him it's going to be a long time. He thought they were in the oven but she says they still have to proof. One. We were there this evening with a party of 6. If it were not for our server, Aaron (hope the spelling is correct) this would've been a busted visit (the food did not meet expectations and was mediocre at best). She was extremely helpful with making recommendations, making sure we stayed hydrated, and ensuring that our food was delivered in a timely manner! She was very engaged with everyone in my party and even made time to have a few conversations with us. She was incredible and whenever anyone goes to this location in Hammond, they should make sure and ask for her! I'll return just to sit in her section if it's only for drinks. read more

Service is TERRIBLE!! I wish we would have never chosen to come here, but we have loved the food in the past so we wanted to give them another shot. Our last visit was at least 3 months ago and service was awful then. When we first came in, no one greeted us and it took a KITCHEN worker coming out asking if we've been helped after waiting at least 10 minutes. Get to a table and have to chase down a bus boy after another 10 minutes of sitting waiting to put in an order for a drink..... after my son and I had our drinks it took another 10 minutes for my husband to get the draft beer he ordered! No one is at the bar.... Waitress hasn't checked on us and everyone needs refills.... This place isn't busy and ALL of our food came out correctly but cold. Restaurant had lots of trash on the floor. No paper towels in the bathroom. Service was poor. Asked for more bread when we were still eating appetizers. Finished whole meal and still no bread. Steak was under cooked. Spit most of it out in my napkin. Never got checked on after food was delivered. No refills on drinks until we were done eating. Not worth another try. Got here about 2:30 on a Tuesday. The place wasn't busy. Its a clean place with a barrel of peanuts at the door. Maybe the peanuts are for filling up while waiting for a host/hostess..We stood at the desk and waited.... and waited.. it took about 10 minutes for someone to come up and ask "how many"? She grabbed 2 menus and walked us 5 feet to the first table in the place!! Lol. Our server came up, beautiful woman with a friendly smile, super polite..I think she said her name was "Heaven". She was the bright spot in our lunch experience. The is a lot of wall junk around here. Not all cattle or food related. The fan looks to be blades from some huge turbine. They brought out 4 buns with butter tops and cinnamon butter, very tasty. THE FOOD: I ordered a Santa Fe Club with tater tots, and a salad. Little Lady ordered an 8oz sirloin. The salad was good. Fresh stuff and ranch. The club was.... kind of blahh. Small, lunch meat ham, and lunch meat turkey, a sliver of bacon. Its so small, it only had 2 slices of bread. Most clubs I've had all over the country had 3 slices and a lot of meat (especially for 10 bucks). The tater tots were not the fried tots I expected, but baked potato chunks with butter. Shrimp Tacos This was my first time at Santa Fe and I gave the 3 stars because of our waiter, Preston. He was very professional and attentive. Walked in to an empty restaurant on a Tuesday night. Took our server at least 20 min to even come up and greet the table when there was nobody else in there. Our server then continued to walk past our table and ignore us after one other joined her section. I understand bad days, but she seemed to have treated her other tables half way decent so that did not seem to be the case. Me and my fiancé were planning on ordering drinks and a dessert in addition to our meals but we never even got the chance to. On top of that, we had to go to the bar for a refill on our water where we were met with yet another rude staff member. Food came out wrong, but was at least edible. If I could leave 0 stars that would be more truthful! Now to start this restaurant smells and needs to be deep cleaned, disgusting. Second the manager is horrible, doesn't care not one bit what is going on in the restaurant, doesn't care at all about the service or anything! After a rather long break we met friends at Santa Fe Cattle Company in Hammond today. Happy to report that the good old days appear to be back. The food was great. Served hot and well plated. The server, Mr Alex was on his toes and did a fine job as he served us and a number of other tables. The manager, Miss Belinda stopped by our table to chat and see how things were. Our salads, shrimp, rolls, onion rings and everything were really good. If you've taken Santa Fe off your regular list, I'd suggest trying them again. I know we will. read more

Was excited about picking up lunch here today. Went and got the fajitas I ordered and returned back to my office. Opened the box to find the sorriest fajitas I've ever seen. For 1. The only toppings I got were beans. No rice, sour cream, gauc or anything. Literally just beans. Then there was hardly any bell peppers but a bunch of onion. The only decent thing in this box is the chicken. I will never order fajitas from there again. And for the price I paid I am just not happy. While my husband was picking his side, the waitress started to walk away, took 20 minutes to get our rolls, and waited a hot minute for our food despite the place being not that busy. My husband ordered Mac and cheese, and we were brought a plate with some pasta and a slice of cheese that looked like they threw it in the microwave. When we were finished, the waitress was visibly annoyed and asked why he had not eaten the Mac and cheese. This was really the first time we had come here and the ball was completely dropped. Well, the food might be great, but if you never receive it, it's hard to say. Have been here almost 1 1/2 hours. The waitress has barely checked on us. The only food received so far are the complimentary rolls. It's supposedly coming out in just a few minutes. Will believe it when I see it. Very disappointed in the wait time and service tonight. This is the worst experience I have ever had here tonight. My other half ordered the queso Blanco and requested no onions. The waitress was notified that she had a food allergy which caused blisters in her mouth when exposed to onions. It was served with onions hidden at the bottom of the bowl in the meat causing blisters in her mouth. If she has ingested the food it could have caused hospitalization. I sent my 8 ounce filet back twice because it was overcooked and both times I was served an end cut of meat. I finally gave up after the second steak. Only our 8 year old actually enjoyed her ribs. Don't do it. The only positive I can give about our visit is that the front of the house staff were all bright and cheerful. Our server was a pleasure and sympathetic to the shortcomings of the place. He apologized multiple times for our wait and also warned us off of certain thing -- I can't imagine what those those menu items would have been like. None of these individuals had a hand in making our food and I don't know who is in that kitchen but they should probably find a different job. The bread rolls were completely hollow. There was literally nothing on the inside, nothing to spread the butter on.. just pockets of crust. We ordered salsa and chips to tide us over until our entrees. The salsa was like plain puréed tomatoes with no seasoning. The chips were bland as well and very thick, like straight out of a plastic bag. My husband and I opted to share the Wagon Full, which is an entree for two that includes two steaks, some ribs, and chicken "for two" served over mushrooms and onions on what was supposed to be a sizzling fajita plate. Our plate was lukewarm at best once it eventually got to us and the "rare" steaks done medium. Once again there was no seasoning to be found save for the barbecue sauce, and it was mostly accumulated on top of the pile of bones that were supposedly ribs. I did get a sliver of rib meat and that was pretty good but they served us mostly bare bones hidden beneath barbecue sauce. The chicken breasts were pounded flat and so overcooked they were like sawdust in our mouths. We both ate our overcooked steaks and didn't complain, (1) because we were taking his mom out for a belated Mother's Day and didn't want to make her uncomfortable; and (2) I wasn't confident anything better could emerge from that kitchen. I was a little apprehensive to going to a chain like this but was pleasantly surprised. Considering how busy they were, we were seated pretty fast. The waitress was very attentive. Even made sure we had our rolls and they were warm.. (Btw, that cinnamon butter is great!) Ordered chips and salsa for app. Salsa was actually pretty good. However, was a little cold and icy. I know, I know... salsa is supposed to be cold right? But the tempature seemed like it was just defrosted. Anyway, the waitress kept our drinks filled and even offered up a to-go drink after dinner. I love that. She was on point. No complaints there. My partner ordered the steak and seemed very satisfied. I ordered the burrito. It was good for Tex-Mex. Good Lord. I don't have the stomach for this! We had slim pickings in these parts, and basically "rock-paper-scissored" on Santa Fe for lunch. It was #3 in town for lunch, and less food chain-Y! But what do you do when you're too nice to throw your hands up and rush for the nearest exit, or when sending it back again won't help because you know this is their best, and you come to grips with the fact that you're literally sitting in the middle of #FoodieHell?! I'll tell you... You nibble what you can, push things around the plate, and drink your water. I don't know what was worse... When I saw that Tilapia was on the menu as a "featured dish?" (Yeesh! Really Tilapia?... Gross! Google it.) When the chips for the queso and chips appetizer we ordered were stale, and the 2nd "fresh batch" that Susan brought out was also stale? (Ay dios mio!) When the free yeast rolls for table service (and I love good rolls) were warm and freshly buttered, but still didn't taste freshly baked? (Just plain bad.) To add insult, I watched other tables graze on the rolls like they were the best thing ever! Or, when I couldn't find one thing on the menu that looked appetizing so I decided to say, "The hell with it!" and order a deep fat fried appetizer platter for lunch??? (Because, how can you mess that up?) After all of the above, I knew we were in for it from the start, and we definitely should've left. But we were meeting another party, so we sacrificed ourselves for the sake of convenience. Poor Susan, our kind server, tried. The front desk staff was attentive and orderly, but it took a long time for our waiter to make initial contact to take drink orders. Two other tables were seated after us and their drink orders were taken, and one brought, before our drink order was taken. It was enough time for us to decide on drinks, an appetizer, and our main course, but when the waiter came they were not ready to take any orders but for our drink and appetizer. We had to wait to order the main course. The appetizer came with chips and cheese dip. The cheese dip was fine. The chips were mostly bits and pieces. Maybe they were the bottom of the bag? The salad came as ordered and was crispy, though only contained two croutons. The portion of fries wasn't large. The ribs, both orders, were dry and chewy. Little bbq sauce. They were either over cooked or had been sitting too long under a heat lamp. Did not check out the bathroom. Peanuts were okay. It was cold! Bring a jacket if you're cold natured. I don't live in Hammond but travel there frequently. Today my husband and I met two other couples for lunch at Santa Fe Cattle. We have all met there before and enjoyed both the food and service. But, today it was beyond disappointing. Two of us ordered the grilled steak caesar salads (cooked medium). The steaks were delivered to our table on the rare side of medium-rare. Mine was loaded with gristle with very little flavor, My friend sent hers back to be cooked to medium. My husband liked his potato soup but his hamburger steak with onion/mushroom gravy, ordered medium, was over cooked (almost burnt) and tough. Another friend ordered the sirloin plate. He did not complain but I noticed that it took a really long time for him to cut his steak and it appeared to be a less than quality cut of meat. The friend that ordered the grilled fish plate said it was good. The service was slow but friendly. My recommendation...This is a relatively pleasant place to have lunch with friends but stay away from the steaks. This "steak house" is probably trying to keep the prices down by buying and serving lower quality beef. read more

This has been one of my favorite steakhouses but so much stuff has happened over the last 3 times I went there I have to speak up..Server Lydia nice person.. She took our order I asked about the salad coming out before the food because they keep bringing it with the food or directly before.. oh no I'll get your salad out early, salad never came out.She said she got busy. It wasn't crowded at that time.I had to go say something it came out about 5 minutes before my food. I had to shove it down to keep my food from getting cold..salt and pepper shakers empty on mine and all the tables around me..I asked for my steak well came out med well...lots of red..my wife's came out so over cooked we took half home I had to cut parts of of it so my small dog could eat it .it was so hard...my wife did say well butterfly it..so she let it go..she was tired of getting it med well...WE NEED A break from Santa Fe for a while.. AND No Paper Towels in ladies room AND 6 tables around us dirty dishes on the tables..Was there when we sat down was there when we left. I have Celiac disease (gluten free) GF meal: Grilled shrimp, but get them to season it with just salt, pepper, and garlic. Side salad and loaded baked potato. SO much shrimp!! and it was good! Service was terrible. 4 tables in our section with people at them. Of these 1 got up and left, 1 had to track down some other server to get boxes and tickets, 1 sat after us and waited 10 minutes on their drinks that the bartender delivered. The bartender went and got that table rolls. We ordered app that came with no plates, we asked for them along with rolls. The rolls arrived but the plates never did. We were told they were out of plates. Our salads were delivered after we were 90% complete eating our meal. Our drinks were empty our entire meal, she came to refill and took 2 of the 5 but never refilled the others. We asked to speak to the manager and he stated that they were slammed from graduation. Keep in mind that at least half the tables in the restaurant were empty. But after I explained everything that was going on over in this section his comment was that he could have just left us all sitting with wait times outside. To top it off, he stared at a table that wasn't bused our entire time that we were there and walked off with out doing anything. This place has great customer service and great employees but the thing they lack on is the food. 1- Deep fried pickle too oily and the crust falling apart and soaked in oil. 2- the fully baked potato was over salted 3- the coleslaw was not pleasant to eat it was very bitter. 4-the steak was cooked to perfection but it didn't have any flavor, like they didn't seasoned it or not enough. 5-the buns were really good Overall will not be coming back unless they fix their cooking skills read more
