This restaurant was recommended as the place to eat for seafood so we decided to try it even though my husband is not a fan of seafood. (He let me choose!) However he found a delicious sandwich choice which he enjoyed. But what really caught his eye was the white chocolate bread pudding which he said was delicious! My red snapper was prepared as I asked and was delicious. I also really liked the green beans. Our server was wonderful and did a great job helping us make menu choices. My first time at Don's spent a litttlleee more than what I wanted to ($128 including tip) but it was worth it! The alligator bites were bite soft, the quesadillas with the avocado sauce was flavorful, both the raw and charbroiled oyesters were amaaazzinngg. Me and my husband went around 2:00ish and it wasn't crazy busy. Our waitress was kinda MIA but she was super sweet. Not pictured was the bread pudding my husband got (I'm not a fan of bread pudding so I didn't try it) but I did get the turtle cheesecake (fresh made daily btw) and it was the best cheesecake I've ever had even over Outback's cheesecake. $7 for a nice sized slice of cheesecake. Everything was great! EJ was our most excellent server and was on the ball the entire meal. We were hungry and got a little bit of everything. We had 6 pounds of boiled crawfish, the crawfish ravioli, fried catfish with fries, the spinach seafood dip, salad, and the jacked up cheeseburger. The portions were very generous and everything tasted great. I think the only thing that could have been better if they were different options for the flavors of crawfish. The crawfish was definitely fresh and easy to peel... But the boil was barely mild. They did have spicy seasoning that you could add but I love when they're spicy/garliy much better . Wow. Those jacked up oysters were incredible! A young lady at the bar told me to get them and I did. I had a nice cold beer with them. They also brought out some delicious buttered French bread. If I could do negative stars, I would. Everything was bad except the bartender. Crawfish was mushy and tiny; shouldn't even be selling food like that. This place was a very pleasant surprise. I was able to get one of the last reservations available here on a Thursday, I pulled up the restaurant, and the parking lot was full; a great sign! I ordered charbroiled oysters and a crawfish boil with potatoes, corn and andouille sausage. The oysters were big, silky, garlicky, cheesy, salty and downright delicious! Being from Ohio, this was my first time eating Louisiana style crawfish, I typically eat Viet Cajun at home or when I'm on the road, and I really appreciate the Louisiana style. Simple, spicy, routed in tradition, but it still lets the crawfish speak for itself. I was lucky to visit Louisiana when the crawfish were in season and plump. Our waitress was quick and checked in with us and after dinner watching some of a game at the bar, both bartenders were very good and kept up with us. Food-stared with chargrilled oysters that were pretty good except for all the broken shells pieces. Out 12 at least 5 had multiple shell pieces making it really hard to enjoy. Dinner with seafood combo had cool soggy fried oysters, shrimp étouffée tasted like they thickened with cornstarch instead of making a roux, funky tasting catfish but nice frys (yea..). Wife had grilled stuffed shrimp and were ok but didn't finish. Good note...sweet hush puppies tasted really good. Figured we would just go to the bar and watch a little football and have some dessert. Don't go for the bread pudding (thanks to the bartender for taking it off the bill) tried a couple bites but no flavor and consistency was a thick jelled blob. Very disappointed in Don's seafood. For the money you pay, you should get better food and more of it. It was as if my fish came from the knock-off brand of frozen fish sticks. I could have done better on the crawfish etouffee by dumping a can of blue runner etouffee on my plate. The boudin balls even seemed different. I got this feeling that they went with cheap food but charged the same high price to make up for losses during these tough times. It showed in the portions and taste of the food. I worked at dons for almost 4 years, so I could possibly be a little biased, BUT always have the best food and the best service in town! They bring out sliced French bread after you order and it is perfection, then I had Chargrilled oysters which were good and finished with a small catfish and shrimp dinner that is served with coleslaw, fries, and hush puppies. My husbands entire dinner was cold, like real cold. He got the seafood platter, plus a cup of gumbo, so I think $45 for his meal, the stuffed crab was good, fried catfish was great, etoufee was good, nothing to write home about. Gumbo was decent. We ordered hush puppies for appetizer and they were very good. I got the lunch portion gumbo and added a side of potato salad. The potato salad was so good! The gumbo was good with a nice spice to it but I'd say a bit stew like with the thickness it was, but good flavor nonetheless. My husband got half shrimp, half catfish. We have been here multiple times. I started with a Bloody Mary which was my favorite. We enjoyed the seafood spinach dip appetizer, boiled shrimp had excellent flavor, and half fried shrimp and etouffee. The etouffee had a great spice to it. I'll start by saying I don't frivolously throw around 5 star reviews. I just use Yelp and take the advice of friends. Our friends are hosting a big event this October at Don's and we decided to check it out early since we were in town. So thankful we did! This place does seafood right! For appetizers hubby had the gator tail half fried and half grilled. We also shared the spinach dip with crabmeat. It came with tortilla chips but our waitress recommended we try it with their bread and it was delicious. Hubby loved the gator both fried and grilled equally. For our entrees we both had the fried catfish and red beans & rice! Everything was seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of kick.. no additional seasoning required.. near the end of the meal we took bread pudding to go and enjoyed it over the next few days. The portion sizes were abundant and we ate so much we almost had to be rolled out of there! Looking forward to our next visit! Our waitress was bubbly and accommodating! She checked on us frequently and made great recommendations! You'll love the interior booths surrounding the bar where we could see oysters set afire on the grill. It gave the place such a pleasant aroma! We live in Florida but we're making plans to stop by before the event in October!
