I had to go to California from Washington state to go visit my brother who is ill. I decided to stay with my nephew who lives at Vanenburg, and he really wants a Harley Davidson. I ride Harley Davidson's, and decided to go with him into Santa Maria Harley Davidson and look at some motorcycles. I was impressed with their selection as they had both new and used/preowned. They had other types of motorcycles. They sold there. Meaning, non-Harley-Davidson models. In 58 years of riding, I have never received better service than recently at S.M. Harley. My call to the shop was promptly answered, inviting me to take my bike in for a rear brake problem. Service writers greeted me with a smile, taking the bike in. They offered water and coffee while I waited. "You're having the repair done now?!', I said. I said it's late Fri, no rush. I got a call Sat. morning, "all done". In shock, I went back. Bike was done, with a very reasonable bill. I even spoke to the tech who answered my questions on the spot. My experience with Santa Maria Motorcycles is for their Service Department. I had my Honda Rebel 1100 towed to them after a drop. I had it a scheduled appointment for the bike but they said I could drop it off early and they'd do the estimate at the scheduled time. My scheduled appointment came and went and I did not hear from anyone. I had to call them in order to get the status; needless to say, they did not even look at my bike that day. It would be at least another week before they would look at my bike, and yet again I was not called afterwards as promised; but I had to call them. This became a recurring theme during the 7 weeks they had my bike, parts have been difficult to come across as a lot of parts are on backorder, so I do not fault them for this. Not once was I called about my bike from the day I dropped it off until the day I picked it up even though I was reassured multiple times I would receive a call after the estimate and after the work was complete. Anytime I did call, I was placed on hold for extended periods of time up to 20 minutes at a time. Each time I called leading up to estimate, the person on the other line did not know what I was talking about. When I asked about the estimate I was given a quote for a standard oil change service. I had to continually ask them for the correct information. Then I was told the estimate wasn't completed and it was going to be done a different day and they would call me in a week; to no avail, I didn't receive a call. Due to the nature of the parts ordeal (that is parts being on backorder), I decided to purchase crash bars myself and have them sent to the shop. This went well, when I received a delivery confirmation, I called to verify they were received and it was confirmed. I notified the service department ahead of time about the crash bars to ensure they would be installed when the repairs were completed. I also asked for a labor estimate for the crash bars and was told it was the half-hour rate of $70. When the day FINALLY came for the work to be completed on my bike, I was told I would receive a call when it was done, I did not. So, I called them and was told at 3:30pm I could pick it up that day if I'd like or wait until the morning. I asked specifically if the crash bars were mounted before I hung up and was told "I think they are, I don't see why they wouldn't be" right before the service person went to visually check. Low and behold, they had not been mounted. I was told the bike would be ready the next morning shortly after they opened. I arrived and was given an invoice which reflected several charges (such as the full-hour labor charge, instead of the half-hour) that were incorrect. They were only corrected when I asked. We paid and then asked for the box of damaged parts, the service person brought parts for SOMEONE ELSE'S BIKE. There was one last thing they discovered the night before pickup regarding the rear break, and break light but we opted to do that one ourselves. I will definitely avoid coming here as much as possible because ultimately, they suck. As far as the actual repairs, they did a great job, my bike runs great. Drove 60 miles to get 1 to find out the really didn't have them, then the young blond girl working the counter that thought she was all that, was extremely rude to me several times while was checking out after buying a shirt ( they found in the back for me) then she questioned my veteran's status and I had to show her 2 vet IDs to get a discount. Riding through the area that we are not familiar with and have a blow out on the highway around 4:15 pm. We are on the side of the highway looking up the closest motorcycle repair shop and Santa Maria Harley comes up. We call them to ask if they have a tire to fit our Road Glide and ask if we are able to get the bike towed to them, would they be willing to stay late to help us out. Their answer was that they would send their guy out to pick us up and he would be there in about 15 minutes, bring us and our bike back to the shop and get us back on the road no matter how long it took them. The entire team of SM Harley couldn't have been nicer and welcoming. Nobody made us feel like we put them out of their way to have to stay late to help us. They offered us cold drinks, everybody chatted with us, gave us some great recommendations for food and cold beers. Joey, the guy who picked us up, was fun to chat with. The manager, came and chatted with us too. The team at SM Harley ended up staying an hour after closing to get our new tire balanced and installed. They made sure we were good to go back on the road and continue our journey up north. They also didn't up-charge or try to upsell us anything. The entire team was trustworthy, reliable, professional and kind. In our decades of riding Harleys, we have been to a lot of different Harley shops and various motorcycle shops. This one has beat everybody we have ever encountered. I couldn't recommend this place more if you are looking for an awesome trustworthy sales and/or service team to help you with your motorcycle needs. I broke down on a road trip and took my Harley to Santa Maria Harley Davidson. They where amazingly nice and had me back on the road in two hours. I was able to finish my 600 mile trip no problem. They also offered several options as to how to deal with my problem, including leaving it with them until I got to my buddies 60th Birthday party and coming back to get it. They afford a fair price to buy it and walk away before it was even diagnosed. When I buy my next Bike I will drive the 3 hrs to buy from them. They saved my ass. Image being grateful for paying someone $4,500? That's how I feel for being able to get my 2020 Honda Super Cub from Santa Maria Harely Davidson . In case you didn't know, this model has been produced in limited numbers. I missed my chance with 2019, so I put a deposit for 2020 back in Sept. I got a call from Cody that my was ready and I took the RTA bus down to Santa Maria. I used Google map to find my way to the dealer from the bus stop, and after a hour of walking lugging my pack with helmet I arrived at Honda car dealer. Which was totally the wrong way, I called Cody and explained my mistake and he came to get me. I was in a bad mood because I thought he took to long, but I was wrong and didn't realize how far out of the way I went... I want to thank Cody again for his help. Anyway, really love to souped up scooter. I drove it back to SLO via Highway 1, which was first time I've been on a motorbike in about 20 years. It didn't matter if you owned a different brand bike (I own a Triumph), these guys helped keep our bikes in tip-top shape. I was on a long and beautiful ride along the 58 hwy, and took a 15mph left hand turn a bit too hard, and ended up in a slid out. My wind sisters helped me up and I rode my now-dusty AF motorcycle back to camp. Wow, never thought I would be giving a bad review to a Harley dealer, but here goes; I was on a ride Friday 10/16/15 from the Inland Empire to Cayucos with a a large group of riders for a weekend getaway. My wife's 2012 Street Glide developed a bad case of failed battery, and we were trying to make it to the dealership to get one before closing. You may note that Friday was the day that mudslides forced the closure of the I-5, sr-58, sr-14, sr-33, sr-166; traffic on the 101 was bumper to bumper all the way from Camarillo to San Luis Obispo. We had been splitting traffic on our bikes from Ventura, and at 5:45 PM, we stopped at the Orcutt exit, about 5-6 miles south of the dealer. I called the dealer and got a hold of "parts". The male who answered assured me that they had 6 batteries in stock. I told him that we were on our way, but it would be close; would you PLEASE hold the doors open till we got there. He said, "sure", and we set out to try to make it. We split another 5 miles of traffic and got to the front door of the dealership at 6:04 PM. The doors were locked, the lights off and NO ONE there! REALLY?? We made it the rest of the way into Cayucos, ate and cooled off and had a great evening with our 40+ friends. The next morning, we jump-started her bike and rode into Atascadero, where the fine folks at Gary Bang Harley sold us a new battery and helped us install it in their lot. These gentlemen were amazing and incredibly helpful. I rode to Babes Ride Out this year and in route hit a bathtub (thankfully it was the fiberglass type), yes you read that right. They worked with me to replace the radiator, on my Triumph Street Cup, which was punctured and replace both my tires in record time. Chris and Josh were so sweet and lovely to work. He had the right answers and handled everything in a non pressure, yet extremely professional approach, so much so it made me want to buy this bike. This place also goes by Santa Maria Motorsports. It is a solid place to buy a motorcycle, and is also the only Honda Grom dealer that is closeish to SLO. A friend and I recently purchased two Honda Groms. The buying experience was new to me, so I am not sure how it typically works. Santa Maria Motorsports gave us a great price, but had slow service. Though I'm sure it wasn't atypical - you can't shop for a motorcycle like groceries. . Pros: 1. Matched the price of another dealership, and included free delivery to San Luis Obispo, 2. Allowed a charge of ~$4,000 on a credit card. 3. Rana and Jon were both very nice and friendly. 4. We did not feel pressured to purchase, Rana was a nice salesperson. Cons: 1. Bikes were not ready for pick-up, despite calling Rana the day prior, getting a quote, and confirming that I would be in the next day to buy (they were delivered the following day for free) 2. Waited nearly an hour to finalize paperwork. 3. Very little selection of gear, besides Harley-Davidson. read more

Can I try a motorcycle? Apparently the owner is too scared to let a bike out for a test, and he sells so many that he doesn't need to take seriously each potential client walking through his doors. I have 20 yrs experience riding enduro/adventure bikes and I now want to buy something new. I am not sure if I want a Versys (or similar style bikes) or a sport street bike like a Ninja (or a CB...) due to the fact that newer sport bikes have a better straighter riding position. How do I decide if I dont try a couple bikes? I called this dealer to schedule a test drive. I was told it would be possible and they had the bikes I mentioned. I arrive at the time scheduled and I am told nothing is ready and the manager is worried about letting bikes out for a test. After talking with him, and signing a liability release, I finally get to try a used bike that is not even what I wanted to possibly buy. I stalled at the start and didn't even do one foot forward, not used to a different power and clutch delivery compared to my bike. The manager takes the key out and says I am not a capable rider and will not get to test ride it. Then he questions me if I ever rode a motorcycle or when was last time... I never stalled my BMW F650 and I never dropped it. It behaves differently and I made a very simple mistake. But now I really feel insulted. How am I supposed to spend $10k to $12k for a new motorcycle without trying a few first??? How does a dealer not let someone try a bike before selling any? Why does a manager act like nobody is worth to test his bikes? I am not going to buy anything here, thats for sure. So I walk away. read more

While on a 19 day trip of a lifetime touring the Southwest on April 27th, 2016, the warning lights on the dash of my 2012 HD Street Glide came on indicating a problem with my charging system. My voltmeter was showing only 10 volts so I knew I had to get to a Harley dealer soon or the bike would be done. I pulled into Santa Maria Harley and spoke with James at the service desk who got my bike in right away and determined it was my regulator. James, Chris, and Dennis got the part replaced, charged my battery back up, and tested the battery to make sure it would hold a charge for my return trip to MN. I even told them flat out that if there was any doubt in their minds about the battery I would buy a new one. They could have easily sold me a new battery, but they assured me my battery was fine. Heck, they even washed my bike for me and got me back on the road in about 2 hours. When your bike breaks down while you're traveling, you really are at the mercy of the dealership, and they know it. Santa Maria Harley treated me like I was one of their most important customers. They could have made me wait, and they could have sold me a new battery even though I didn't need one, but they didn't. In my mind, that speaks volumes about their honesty and integrity. read more

It was respectable to me until yesterday. I thought it was a fantastic shop. Lots of selection for Harley's on one side and everything else on the other. Was ready to move on a bike but couldn't agree on a price which is understandable. What irked me though was taxes and fees were 1/3 of the bike's MSRPs cost which may be acceptable and understandable to some but not to me. I had a $500 hold on the bike and after being unable to agree on a price the salesperson and one of the ladies said with a straight face that they don't give back deposits. They revealed they were joking but it was in bad taste. You can joke, but don't joke with someone else's money. read more
