I made 530 reservations three weeks in advanced for Christmas Eve, only the lounge was available. We decided to arrive a little early to have a cocktail at the bar. There was not any parking available, the entire parking lot was full. We decided to go down the street for a bit. I was dropped at the door and the crowd was to the door. After a bit I realized no one was moving and this was just the wait for tables. I was able to push through to the greeter and let hostess know we had arrived. I then attempted to use the bathroom that was also overflowing with patrons. By the time I was able to sift through the crowd again our table was available in the lounge. We had a party of four that could barely squash into the tiny booth and a guests coat from another table was blocking a portion of the very small opening to the booth. By this time I was ready to call it an evening, the congested area was just very uncomfortable. Large parties just standing in the lounge area many with small children. It would have been more appropriate to have families not utilizing the lounge wait outside if there was no waiting space in the corridor.Our server was friendly and very efficient. I had a salad with crumbly blue cheese. Surf and Turf medium rare. The steak was very rare. Other guests had sampler, and pasta with meatballs. The food was good other than my steak being rare. I had a pomegranate martini for my second cocktail. My portion of the bill with tip was $120 for surf and turf and one martini. The first round of drinks was paid for at the bar. I thought it was a bit steep for what I received but it was a holiday so why not treat yourself! I did purchase a $50 GC as well and it seemed I was going to have to get back to hostess stand, fortunately our server was able to accommodate the purchase for me! There was no way of getting through the crowd again. It was now after 7pm and the commotion was increasing. As we exited there was a loud dispute and two vehicles yelling profanities at each other this went on for nearly five minutes as we were trying to get to our vehicle that was in the line of fire. Several other guests also seemed to be caught up in this stand off. Fortunately the dispute was broken up peacefully. I don't think I will be coming back on a holiday, to say the least. read more

Typical ambiance that you'd expect in an Italian restaurant but you can tell this place is family owned and well loved, though a bit more of a casual atmosphere than we expected. They had the original menu from opening in 1986 on display at our table which was fun to discuss during dinner! We got 2 drinks, 2 entrees, and a dessert for around $100. The entrees were pretty big servings, and came with choice of soup or salad. We both got pasta dishes and were pleased with the flavors and quality. All of their signature cocktails look quite sweet, but they also have a full bar and wine/beer menu. The chocolate chip cannoli we got for dessert was huge, tasty, and had plenty of chocolate chips, but it wasn't my favorite that I've had. I should have tried their dessert special, hazelnut Bailey's cheesecake! Servers were friendly and attentive, checking on us and refilling waters as needed. We felt overall that the prices were a bit steep for the experience but overall enjoyed our evening and would recommend a visit. read more

It is a lot larger than it looks from the outside. It was nicely laid out. We were placed in the rearmost dining room, which was quite spacious and comfortable. The server attending to us was very pleasant and offered some suggestions with respect to cocktails, appetizers, and entrees. Their version of the Cosmopolitan cocktail was interesting but not for me. I also had a Manhattan, and that was well made and balanced. I had a great Caesar salad. The dressing was excellent, the lettuce was crisp, and the cheese was great. My wife had the eggplant parmesan for her entree, and she loved it. I had a classic rack of lamb, and it was prepared very well. The portions were generous, to say the least. I would give it a try. Wonderful overall experience almost... I had the eggplant and it was my favorite Addie Ale vodka sauce and penne, Seafood Bouillabaisse, Surf and Turf, Chicken Marcella is good. Definitely 5-star quality. Catering is great! Dining in is nice. They have a bar, never been to it. It's always busy. The only downsides are they strongly recommend reservations, if it's busy, they may turn you away without one. Also, each time... the seating hostesses come off a bit rude, eye rolling... sighing... horrible body language...but I just kept it polite. That knocks it down a star for me losing 2 stars. We had a pretty good birthday dinner here for a family member the other night. My Pom martini was great. Started off with garlic pizza bread, greens, and calamari. I got the filet with Alfredo for my entree. Others tried the veal, chicken, and fish. Everything was cooked well and we had no complaints. Finished off with a piece of cake. Our waiter was attentive but could've been slightly friendlier. He wasn't rude but not necessarily welcoming. We still tipped well as he was prompt. Also, the prices here are a bit higher than other places where you can get the same quality. We made reservations for 2 at 4:30 on a Thursday and by 5 the dining room was quite full. Warm and friendly atmosphere welcomed us with bright smiles and quick escort to our table by the window. Beautiful Christmas tree, lovely decorations, and unique window dressings, (ours was A Nightmare Before Christmas setting see the pic). We had the light crispy tender calamari with all 3 dipping sauces, marinara, balsamic, and cocktail, all of which complimented the appetizer. Our waitress was nice and very efficient yet didn't rush us at all. We each had the garden salad fresh greens and romaine with tomato, olives, and cucumber and the house vinaigrette which was well balanced oil and vinegar. Fresh Italian bread, olive oil, and a dish of Parmesan cheese complimented the salad pre dinner. My Isaac's platter was tender grilled eggplant with sauce, homemade large ravioli, sausage, and meatball. I didn't grab a pic of the Cosmo Platter my co-diner had but there was none left on the plate and that says it all. I had leftovers to take home. Have been here many times before, but this latest visit was met w poor service. Waiter acted like we were bothering him just by being there. He came by once 5 minutes after food delivered and we never saw him again. Plates piled up, drinks not refilled. Waited at least 20 minutes for the check! No sign of him anywhere in dining room. I have lived in Liverpool for almost 4 years now and have never been to Santangelo's. I got a gift card from my father in law, so that kicked me in the butt to try them out! This may be one of our new favorite Italian restaurants in the area! They were pretty busy for a Wednesday at 5:30, but we were seated promptly and the waitress was great about recommendations and checking in on us regularly. We definitely felt like we were treated like family. We started with fried calamari, which was so crispy and came with three different dipping sauces! We also liked that the bread came with dipping oil instead of butter. My only complaint was that the bread wasn't warm. Since I have never been there, I decided to get a sampler platter for my meal. This came with eggplant parm, ravioli, ziti, meatballs and sausage. Everything was delicious and I had plenty of leftovers for the next day. My husband also enjoyed his steak and shrimp entree. My family and I (9 of us) had dinner last night at Santangelo's and we had a fantastic time! The wine, the food and ambiance were excellent. Our waitress was terrific: friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. We had 1 vegan, a couple of vegetarians, a pescatarian and some small children. We were all easily accommodated and the food was delicious! I especially recommend the cheese garlic bread, regular garlic bread, garden salad and eggplant Parmesan. All of it was delicious. My father in law knew something as an out-of-towner that we always took for granted: Syracuse was the Land of Plenty when it came to Italian restaurants. It felt like every time he came to visit, we would inevitably take him to yet another red checkered table cloth joint. But time and tide, and pandemics, and family succession planning, bring changes. The gone but not forgotten: -Aunt Josies -Critella's -Grimaldi's -Luigi's -Casa de Copani -Mother's (Liverpool) It's enough to make you cry in your chianti. But all is not lost, friends. Santangelo's is the real deal, delivering the goods since 1986. I finally got there this past week, though my wife has been several times (without me, but I'm not jealous. Well, maybe a bit.). Everything here screams "old school" in the best way possible. The almost labyrinthine set of dining rooms, the friendly, competent, funny and never intrusive wait staff. The kitschy Christmas decor still on display in early January. But most of all? The food. We started with a special app of fried goat cheese, a nice little ball with pesto inside, with a fabulous splash of house spicy tomato sauce. Totally swoon worth on it's own, but then... The seafood chowder: OMG this is indeed Valhalla. A creamy base, probably based on house made seafood stock, so much depth, and full to the brim with goodness. Our server quipped that she made sure there were "nice, big pieces in there". Seriously, one lobstah bite overflowed my soup spoon. For my main, the veal marsala was simply superb. Super tender veal cutlet, perfect sauce, more than enough mushrooms. My family members both went with chicken parm, and unquestionably, these were fresh chicken cutlets, one with house made pasta. The dining room was packed, understandably so, but there's enough carpeting and soft materials that it never felt loud, not even with a birthday of 10 seated close to us. Was between two Italian places to eat and by vote came here. Called ahead for a reservation and pulled into the packed lot about 10minutes before our reservation. Had to drop Cheech and Chong by the head shoppe on the way to load up on stickers so we came ready. Upon entry there is several areas for seating - bar area, large back areas that look private and the regular tables and booths. We came a little early and we're sat immediately. We ordered our drinks and started with fried mozz, pizza bread, and the boys added mushroom caps. Thicc Henry Esq., the consigliere, always goes caps on it. Not I. The mozzarella was ok - a little on the thin side, and the pizza bread was really good. Both the marinaras were good that they came with it. Here's where things start to spiral. Our waiter - young guy, really struggled at refilling drinks. To the point we were looking for him. Also, he would disappear for extended periods where I didn't even see him anywhere. Nice guy - young guy. But service was subpar. I went with my usual chicken Parmesan (for this who read my yelps often. After ordering and the apps coming out quickly - the entrees seemed to take forever. And I don't use that lightly. Then when our meals arrived by chicken was cool. Not hot, not cold - but it was obvious it had sat and hadn't been taken out even remotely on time from the window. It wasn't bad in terms of taste or flavor but the chicken could have been thinner rather than feel like I was eating a large chicken breast from KFC with sauce on it. Again the man disappeared on us to the point another lady refilled our drinks. I made sure when he finally came back to represent we wanted dessert - which we ordered along with coffee. I went with the cheesecake and raspberry sauce - which was good. Then the bill came. Let me say this (again) IF YOU CANT EAT THE CREDIT CARD CHARGE AND YOU WANT TO PASS THAT ALONG TO YOUR CUSTOMER THAN EITHER SELL YOUR BUSINESS TO SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS OR BE A CASH ONLY BUSINESS. Santangelo's Restaurant was the lifetime dream of Sam, Sally, and Guilio, and little has changed about Santangelo's since it opened in 1986. The beige exterior and burgundy red sign is a recognizable landmark for regular drivers of Old Liverpool Road, for the past three decades. Dark woods, earth tones and rounded archways inside have been well cared for over the years, and the menu includes Italian cuisines, fresh steak, veal & homemade desserts. I've lived in Syracuse most of my life and while I've known about Santangelo's as long as I can remember, I've never eaten there. I was recently invited for a friends birthday celebratory dinner, so I was looking forward to trying out a restaurant that has the type of reputation Santangelo's does. We had a reservation for 5:15 on a Friday and we were sat immediately. Our server was friendly and went over the specials while taking out appetizer order. I personally didn't partake in any of the apps, just my main order. I went with the Pork Chop Ala Andalo, a pork chop topped with Utica greens served over garlic mashed potatoes. We had a party of 6 and the restaurant was mostly full, but our dishes were brought out quickly. Mine wasn't bad, but didn't blow me away. The garlic mashed potatoes were great, but my pork chop was fatty and rubbery, and the greens had no heat to them. I prefer my Utica greens on the spicier side but I wasn't offered an option on the heat level, so I assume they only make them one way. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals so perhaps I just didn't choose the best meal, but I was definitely disappointed. Pricing was comparable to other "fancy" Italian restaurants, service was fine, so it wasn't the worst meal I've had and I'd perhaps give them another try, but wouldn't go out of my way. I would have rated Santangelo's 4 stars for the dining experience but had to deduct a star based upon a required $100 deposit to my credit card which was inadvertently removed from the bill and not from my card as specifically requested. When splitting the bill three ways this meant I had to eat the extra $100 because nobody realized the $100 was taken off the bill nor were we told. It's an unnecessary requirement because the restaurant is good but hardly great. The ambience was lovely and my party of 8 was seated promptly at 7pm on a busy Saturday night. The server (Jenny) was lovely and very welcoming and attentive. Our meals ran from pasta to chicken to veal and everything was nice. Not Michelin starred caliber but a decent family restaurant. I'd recommend not going there with a party of 8 or more because the added deposit caused me confusion and left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

Always a great meal here! We started with some apps. Fried mozzarella, calamari, sausage stuffed mushrooms, and clams casino. All delicious. Dinner salads came and had a myriad of ingredients. All fresh and tasty. For dinners we had the chicken parmigiana and veal Raymo. We were full at this point, so we opted to take them home! The chicken parm was HUGE and was cut with a fork tender. The veal was stuffed with prosciutto, artichokes, spinach, and topped with cheese. Excellent! Our bartender/server was fast, friendly, and efficient! Very reasonable prices. Read online that this had been voted the 2nd best Italian restaurant in Syracuse for 2020 so while my husband and I were staying overnight in the 'cuse, decided to try it out. We weren't really feeling going out even though you can dine-in, so ordered to go. The woman who took our order was very pleasant on the phone and it was ready right when they said it would be. Everything was packaged nicely, and was hot and fresh. We tried and shared the following: Vodka sauce pasta with peas and mushrooms and added the spidies. The spidies were cooked perfectly, and the vodka sauce was good. We also had the sampler platter that comes with chicken Parmesan, ravioli, and the pasta with Alfredo sauce. The chicken Parmesan was done perfectly and a nice tomato sauce. The ravioli was also delicious and the homemade Alfredo sauce was also yummy! The Cesar salad was good (hubs really liked their dressing) and I loved how they had chickpeas, Crasins, and nicely shredded carrots in their house salad! Only thing not impressed with was the bread. I have been here three times with family and friends and always had a wonderful experience. My go to is the eggplant parmesan. Each time the eggplant parm had right amount of breadcrumbs and was not very oily. It was perfect. You do have to make a reservation but the staff appear to be very efficient and enjoy being seated in the room with the cozy fireplace. The ambiance is welcoming and cozy. Our party of 5 really enjoyed this restaurant! We made a reservation which I definitely recommend and we were immediately seated by a friendly hostess. The restaurant is beautiful, well-kept, and CLEAN! They have a great wine list and some pretty good spirits available at great prices. Cumulatively, we ordered the chicken française, homemade ravioli, meatballs, sausage, and steak. Everything was really good. Some of the items could have been served hotter but for 5 people, I understand how difficult that can be and it wasn't a dealbreaker for me. The service was outstanding and one of the only restaurants in the Syracuse area with top-notch customer service. The fine details usually associated with old-school Italian dining did not go unnoticed. We also were allowed to sit there and enjoy our food without getting hassled. We were unexpectedly seated at the bar not the dining room, it was so obnoxiously loud we couldn't even have a conversation or hear our server. Went here for a business function on a Tuesday evening with about thirty people in small banquet room. The staff showed us to the space promptly and proceeded to take drink orders which were promptly served. After everyone was seated we had some appetizers which included calamari, stuffed mushrooms, and clams. Each of the appetizers was nicely presented and tasty. The bread on the table was fresh and also top notch. For an entree I ordered a special which was a Delmonico steak with mashed potato and asparagus. The steak was prepared as I ordered it and the asparagus was crisp. Service all night was very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more
