Anszil did wonders to my hair. Being that I'm originally from Oahu where there are vast salons to choose from, I'm very weary with who touches my hair. I can finally say I found someone who I trust with my hair. I have always gotten golden brown highlights... this time I wanted to do something different... silver lavender highlights. She showed no hesitation, she told me step by step what she was going to do and went with it. She started with the bleach and foil. As soon as she unfoiled it, she noticed that the dye which was used for my roots was turning orange. And she even guessed how long ago it was dyed (that amazed me even more). She wiped off the dye from my roots and left the rest in for a few more minutes. Then for the ends she did a deep dark purple. My hair is amazing.. my camera doesn't do justice. There's dusty purple, beige and deep purple ends.. I couldn't ask for more and I'll definitely be making another appointment. read more

His hair had been growing long and it was bugging him so he just popped in and they took him right away as a walk-in. The place is clean, service was fast, and the look of the salon made me want to ask about their interior designer. I really love the place, so modern chic! Santosha is one of the few salons in Hilo with a really nice ambiance. The stylists are all great. Seriously. They're ALL great. I've been with Dena Rae for years. She's the person who my former stylist trusted to cut his hair! I don't know that you can get a stronger endorsement than that. I marked "No" for Appointment Only, because they will take walk-ins if there is room. But may I suggest you make an appointment? :-) I think that's the best strategy. I've been to a lot of different "hair places." I grew up in Hilo and lived in Las Vegas for a while. My experiences run the gamut from garage barbers shops (or just garage) to nice salons. And I've had to switch salons many times due to moving or stylists leaving or whatever else. Santosha is a place I'm planning to stay with for a long time. I'm comfortable when I'm there and I trust that the stylists are professionals. That isn't an easy combination to find in Hilo (or anywhere). If you're new in town or need something done while on vacation I HIGHLY recommend checking out Santosha. read more

This is my favorite place to get my haircut in Hilo. I had my hair cut by Kristi and it was a great experience. She took her time and made sure I was happy with the cut before I left. But she gave me the same cut after I told her she could do anything she wanted except to not make my tattoo on my neck show and cut the top enough so it would have more height again. I've been really looking for someone that would be able to just look at me and give me a different cut every time I see them. I love to experiment with different cuts, but the last 2 awesome hair dressers that I had moved to the mainland. Maybe I gave to much restrictions. Heather literally created the look & color I was desiring. I explained to her my vision & she was able to make it a reality. I had been dying my curly hair for over a year & the dark brown box dye turned my hair extremely dark (black) which I was very unhappy with because it didn't compliment my skin tone. Heather was so patient with the process, gentle on my hair, professional & her skills were impressive. I'm a Creolegirl (Black, French, Native American Indian, Irish, German....mix) & my hair is naturally thick & curly; which translates to I don't trust people with my hair knowing my hair needs specific care. ALEX is such a doll and her hair magic is amazing. I have thin hair, clip in hair extensions and am prepping for my wedding. She did not 1 but 2 hair trials with me. Story short, the extensions that I ordered were way too long. She offered to take care of that and cut them perfectly. I went back to do a gloss (which she recommended) that I absolutely love and my hair looks 10 times healthier. She did this wonderful head massage, dried me, then placed the clip ins. Let's just say when I walked out the second time, my fiancé didn't want me to take the extensions off and when I finally removed them he said wow your hair looks really good too. Chic location in downtown Hilo above an antique shop, awesome location in a well kept historic building. The salon is bright and airy, has a very relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. The owner is really nice, you can tell they take a lot of pride in their presentation and how they treat their clientele. I called last minute for a hair catastrophe that I caused with a box of at home bleach..shame on me, I know. Alex called me back super quick and was able to see me before I had to leave for a business trip. She took the time to go through pages and pages of hair colors to figure out the shade and fade that I wanted, asked all the right questions and took great care of my hair. I was very close to going on my business trip looking like a lemon drop, but she came to my rescue and now I love my hair again! This is a delightful salon on the second floor with views out to coconut trees , park land, rooftops and sky and furnished with antiques from Brian Booth's store down below. People have asked me 'who cut your hair?' Mahalos to Dena Rae who is my hair stylist. She is fabulous. I have learned to trust her to do whatever she thinks will work because she always does such a great job. I always make an appointment but as far as I know, they do take walk ins. First of all why does it take three business days to return a message? It should be within 24 hours. Nevertheless the fact that they did not even return my message is bad enough. worst hair salon in Hilo, they may be able to do hair ok judging from their family and friend reviews, but the worst customer service provider I have ever dealt with trying to get a simple hair cut. lady judged me and refused to cut my hair even though I told her I could do any afternoon in a 2 or 3 week period. she either doesn't want to cut men's hair or doesn't make enough for it to be worth her while either way she was her rude to me I wouldn't go here for any service ever. I went to Spa Vive after and got a great haircut and left a $50 tip to the stylist because she did a great job and knew how to treat people. Do Not Go Here. if you do good luck read more

I got a haircut from Lei at Santosha today and I couldn't be happier. She's the one who answered the phone when I called in and she was very helpful and friendly. She is apprenticing there at this time but I got a good feeling about her and felt comfortable scheduling an appointment. Just like the other reviews say, the space was beautiful and everyone else was just as helpful and friendly. Lei listened to what I wanted and then cut my hair exactly the way I asked and made me look and feel beautiful. I will definitely go there again and I would recommend the salon and Lei to anyone.
