I was not about to wait in line for halal guys, and so I totally came across this food truck by chance. God provides! The guys on the truck Saul and Cecilio (I probably am not spelling this correctly sorry!) are so nice. I asked the guy in front of me for rec and also the guys on the truck. They all said the Saltado with steak. It's now $15 (I was looking at some previous 2021 yelp prices when it was only $11!!!) but considering the recent times, it was reasonable with all the inflation stuff. I was really hungry (haven't eaten for 8 hours at this point) so I ate the whole thing pretty quickly. I think it might not be enough food for a really big guy, but I was also really full after, so maybe it is sufficient. I was eyeing the "poor man's" burger and pork belly sandwich hard though, good thing I have several more days here in NYC to try those out. The burrito itself falls slightly under my expectations partly due to the use of white rice and black beans. It claims they are Tex-Mex, but that would require refried pinto beans and Mexican rice. Regardless, the burrito is good. I like how on the menu it says it comes with fries. They are the good type of French fries. They also didn't salt them, which I liked! I also love how happy the guys are that work the food truck. They are nice and speak both English and Spanish, which creates an inviting environment for everyone. They DO NOT take credit cards or Apple Pay. They take cash and Zelle. I did the Zelle option and it was not tedious. I'm very happy they are here and I look forward to trying more of their menu. Hands down, I think the 53rd and 6th cart has the best white sauce and rice around (well as far as street vendors go!) and thats saying a lot because I am a rice snob!. But this halal cart, gets a 5/5 for their lamb! its tasty, tender and cut into perfect portions. I am also pretty pleased with their white sauce. I am always surprised at how hot the hot sauce in these carts can be. Don't get me wrong, I am a practical fire eater so I can appreciate the heat, but even I would say that it must be used in moderation. While this isn't the hottest hot sauce I've tried, (once again--that honor goes to 53rd and 6th}, it is definitely in the running. If you're not one who enjoys the taste of fire, I'd advise you to skip the hot sauce. My main gripe is that the rice is a bit more grainy than I'm used to, but it isn't a dealbreaker. Anyway, I'm accustomed to having pita with my lamb over rice, but since that is not automatically included with this platter, I had to ask for it. Instead of just cutting the pita into quarters and putting it in the tray like I expected, he threw it on the grill, lightly doused it in white suace, warmed it up, cut it up into slivers, put it on top of the rice and finished it off with more of that adductive white sauce! For close to a decade it's been located on the corner of 57th Street and 8th Ave. And by chance, it's diagonally across 8th Ave from "Tofu Stall", another very interesting street vendor to visit. Keep in mind, that what's primarily being served here are quick eats, such as skewers, fried chicken, noodles, and dumplings. But this doesn't take away from the fact that the food here is delicious, and crazy fun to order and eat. WHAT TO ORDER: - The cheung fun rice noodle rolls are standard, but very good, and can be topped with fish balls, or curry fish balls. Of course peanut sauce and hot sauce can be added. - All the skewers are good, especially the chicken, chicken wing, fish tofu, fish balls, and others. - Their famous fried chicken legs are one of the best items, and are really crispy, with a hint of five spice flavor. When you're ordering, she always offers something additional for you to try, that she feels you will enjoy. She speaks Chinese and English, and is also happy to take your order by the point at the food or menu method if necessary. PARTING THOUGHTS: If I'm close to 8th Ave, hungry, and I don't feel like ordering from a restaurant, I can't pass up this auntie's food cart.
