This review is for their new location in Falmouth. I have missed this place since they have moved out of Portland. The prices did go up a little bit but it's a beautiful location. I got my two favorite rolls and they were just as good as they were in Portland. Overall one of my go to sushi places.

My husband's two rolls were great. I loved the miso soup, seafood salad, steamed veggies and Oyako don. Even had enough to bring half home.

I really like Sapporo! It's a casual sushi restaurant with fresh fish, and a healthy assortment of classic sushi dishes, and plenty of options for vegetarians, fish lovers, and meat eaters alike. I ordered the chirashi (an assortment of sashimi atop a bed of rice) which comes with miso soup, and the shumai (small shrimp dumplings with a waterier, soy-like dipping sauce. Both were great. They have a great cocktail menu and sake as well. The interior is a bit outdated, hence the 4 star rating. However, I think it rivals Benkay in quality of sushi. Service is good, not great. Ideal spot right by the water, located centrally on Commercial.

The new Falmouth location is beautiful! Highly recommend! Food was very tasty and well priced! Service can be slow at times but they are very friendly. Highly recommend!

Pretty solid place. Went here for sushi mainly (good, solid! Nothing crazy) but also got the noodles. Loved the udon but wasn't craaaazy about the choices of toppings. Waitresses were nice and we got to sit on the patio which was cute!

I treated myself after a personal win over anxiety. I've been here once before and had a mixed experience. This meal was somewhat better, though still flawed. Plum wine - fresh and fruity, perfect accompaniment for my food Shrimp and vegetable tempura - Tasty, but the batter was too oily, and the portion size was too small. Smoked sake (salmon) maki - It was okay, but nothing special. Unagi (freshwater eel) sashimi - The standout from my last meal, and my introduction to eel. It was excellent as expected. I've yet to have bad eel actually, and I guess now it's just a thing I love, and Sapporo's is up to the same standard as everywhere else I've tried it. Tempura cheesecake - AMAAZING, very rich, very filling. Damn, that's something else. Ricotta style cheesecake, inside the crunchy tempura shell, not oily like the app, just all out awesomeness. Service was friendly and attentive. I gather there was someone new learning the ropes, so like they didn't know some of the menu items. Also the soy sauce bottle was missing from my table, and my table was wobbly - minor things, but they affect the experience. Also I've decided to start giving an extra star just for being able to smell the ocean from the restaurant lol :)

Have been coming here for years. It is one of my husbands favorite Sushi spots. It's a great spot for drinks, just sitting and catching up and eating some great sushi or Japanese cuisine. They have a Sushi bar to see your sushi being created. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. They close at 2 pm and reopen at 5 for dinner. My husband and I have been coming here for over 20 years it is one of our favorite stops in down town Portland and for Japanese food

The service was great! Very friendly staff. The sushi was good - I got the tiger roll and jalapeño roll and would recommend those

We originally want to go to the Vietnamese restaurant for a light dinner, but when we got there, seems it's not open, though yelp shows it's open. So we walk across the street to this Japanese restaurant. To our surprise, it's a quite big set up. Girlfriend ordered house salad, and i really want some cooked veggie, then i ask the waiter whether they can make a stirfry veggie for me as on the menu they only do stirfry noodle with veggie. He said yes! I'm pleased. It turns out great, has several different veggies, and really taste good. I'm pleased that we came over here!

Sushi obviously isn't inexpensive, but compared to many places in Portland it's quite reasonably priced if you order non-speciality rolls. The eel avocado roll is especially good and I have also enjoyed the fatty tuna and yellowtail/scallion. I think what makes this place special though is that it appears the owner is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations. I believe he works as a sushi chef sometimes and I've also passed by late at night and seen him cleaning the glass on the front door. The waiters seem genuinely happy to be working there and seem to be friends with each other. They also seem to have strong intra-restaurant culture such as greeting people who walk in the door with the same greetings that I heard when I was in Japan and saying "corner" every time they're rounding a corner with food. The patio outside is delightful. There's a waterfall and the space has the feel of a Japanese tea garden. Really special place. It can feel a bit buzzy/sceney on the weekends, for better or worse. Definitely a special restaurant worth going to.

It was very heart warming.

Fresh fish flown in from all over but not ignoring the amazing local farm to table items (or in this case, net to table). Our dishes were prepared expertly and amazingly good. I haven't had a Japanese dining experience like this since we were in New York. The wait staff are absolutely amazing. The ladies there were chatting with our kids, teaching and correcting their Japanese, and clearly tickled by the conversation. The decor is nicely subdued, but comfortable. This would be a great place for a first date, or to celebrate a nice event like a new job or an outing with someone special. Highly recommended.

The meal started with spicy cucumbers, fried eggplant, and Korean fried chicken. The cucumbers were refreshing, sweet, spicy, and dangerously addictive. The eggplant was crispy, sticky, and packed with flavor. And the fried chicken? My partner could have just eaten that alone and been happy! The four of us went all in on the largest combo platter. Short rib, ribeye, pork belly, shrimp, chicken, veggies--the grill was working overtime. The short rib ipractically melted, the ribeye was buttery perfection, and the pork belly reminded us why pork belly has such a devoted fan club. There was a brief period where my partner and I had no idea what we were doing at the grill, luckily we were with seasoned veterans of it! By the end of the meal my confidence was soaring that I could do this again!
