Sorry, fellas. This sushi is extremely average at best. If it was an off-night, that's unfortunate. And I feel bad about that, because the interior was welcoming, and our server was very friendly and efficient. Had to get the sushi "yacht" for two. But the nigiri was kind of weird. The rice tasted warm. Not like, perfect temperature from the hands of the itamae, but weird tepid lukewarm sitting around rice. The sashimi didn't seem so fresh to me, and sushi grade quality was questionable. The roll also seemed to be at an odd temperature. Overall I was rather disappointed. The best part for me was the sake. But my date (outside of her comfort zone) did seem to like it overall. I don't want to be negative, but this is definitely a "won't visit again" for me. read more

This is a great sushi spot in Brunswick with an abundance of options for vegetarians! We stopped in here for dinner before a show nearby. My wife and I shared three maki: vegetable tempura, inari (sweet marinated tofu), and avocado dream. We would love to return to try some of their many other vegetarian options. The vegetable tempura roll, which contained broccoli, green bean, sweet potato, onion tempura, and sweet brown glaze, was probably my favorite. This roll was huge, so open wide! The avocado dream was a close second, with sweet potato, avocado, and cream cheese. It's tempura fried with a truffle mayo on top, which gave it a really unique flavor! Though not as fancy as the two specialty maki, the inari maki was delicious too. The service was prompt and the kitchen was efficient, so we had plenty of time to get to our next destination without worrying. I'd love to return if I'm ever back in Brunswick! read more

Service for takeout is quick but very little words were exchanged. We ordered a yellowtail roll, a salmon roll, and an Alaskan roll. The maki rolls had a split in the side like they weren't quite rolled all the way. To me, the taste was just a little off, although my husband enjoyed it. I've had much fresher fish elsewhere. I compare pretty much everywhere to Yosaku in Portland, as a heads up, so I did knock off a star because the rice/fish quality just aren't *quite* as good as Yosaku. Little Tokyo has a fantastic lunch selection, with prices in the $12-15 range, which I definitely appreciate. I had a 3 roll combo with spicy tuna, salmon avocado, and eel avocado - I was overall quite impressed. Service is pleasant, and they were very kind and accommodating of my toddler. read more

Came here a few times because of the proximity to the Amtrak and loved it each time. Its location is really great. There is plenty of parking over in this area which is super nice. The actual food is good, safe, yummy sushi. I especially loved their udon as I find that sometimes hard to find in the area. Not to mention it's right next to gelato! read more

I've been going here for years and it never disappoints! The udon noodles with shrimp, the pork katsu, and the spicy tuna roll are definitely our favorites!! We often try something new too since they have so many options (especially for sushi). I prefer to dine in here because everything is best fresh (especially the sushi, miso soup, and house salads), but their takeout is great too! Whenever I order takeout, they almost always say it'll only be 15 minutes and I've never had to wait longer than they say. They typically put cold and hot items in separate bags so make sure you get both (I say that because I didn't get the second bag one time and only realized once I got home). I've often reported to others this is the best Japanese restaurant in Maine but on a recent evening (with NYC visitors) I was not as impressed. Service was less attentive (and it was a Saturday night when they should/could have been on their toes) and I had a specific gripe about the sushi, while in general the food was pretty good but not outstanding. I ordered a specialty roll where the core was California roll. I was pretty shocked that imitation crab Sea Legs were used and not real crab or crab salad! Did NOT expect this from a quality eat in restaurant. That's Hannaford quality. I see some other especially mediocre reviews just in the past 6 months so maybe something has changed. read more

Honestly: I came in for nigiri and cold unfiltered sake, plus edamame and miso soup and was disappointed given the reviews. I had hamachi and maguro, claimed fresh that day but frankly mediocre. Edamame were great! I would suggest sticking with the rolls, which looked good coming out while I sat at the bar. Great small space location and very comfortable. If you are a sake fan, skip the house selections and try the others. Neither the waiter nor the sushi chefs were very helpful so choose for yourself. Decent basic sushi and rolls in a great space. Ordered take out because we were craving sushi and didn't want to drive into Portland. Got the: Fresh fish trio--3 rolls containing raw salmon, tuna, and yellowtail. Well constructed roll but something was off about the flavor profile. Rainbow roll--this was spot on delicious with slices of fish and avocado draped in the outside of the roll but pricey at $12 for the portion size Philadelphia roll--smoked salmon and cream cheese. On the salty creamy side of things. It our favorite. Chirashi don set--thick cut salmon, tuna, snapper, cooked shrimp, albacore, crab stick, grilled eel, fish roe on a thick bed of sushi rice. Served with salad and miso soup. Unagi don set--same grilled eel with dark sweet sauce for the chirashi and other rolls. So not cut thickly like a slab. But they gave a generous amount along with 2 pieces of pickled daikon. Served on a bed of sushi rice with miso soup and salad. The salad was ice berg lettuce and tomato wedges with Mayo dressing. Miso soup was strong with generous amounts of seaweed. Ordering was simple and streamlined. Pick up was also well organized with masks required and hand sanitizing at the door. read more

Right on Main street, with parking on the street as well as in some of the back lots, not a problem really. Brunswick is safe and well lit and the restaurant appeared clean. Our table was clean, no food on the seats or anything like that (pet peeve of mine). Festive and alive surroundings. Side Note: We visited Little Tokyo quite a while back and was completely disappointed in the drinks (little to no alcohol, tasted bad) and they charged us for food we didn't get. Unfortunately I didn't notice until I got home. I did complain and I will say that the manager was a stand up person. She told me to come back and try it again and to let her know when we arrive and she would ensure that our meal was free. You can't really ask for more than that, so I applaud them for that. We did return a couple of times, (but didn't ask for a free meal), and I will say that the food was served quickly and the bill was correct, so no complaints there, however the drinks were still terrible. We even ordered extra shots to put in the drinks but they just didn't mix them right, something was way off and we didn't enjoy them. The seafood soup is pretty good and at $7 it is worth it. It's different but good. We split some shrimp tempura, $10, and it was flaky and crunchy as was the chicken teriyaki, $18. We didn't try any of the sushi on any of our visits, but maybe the next time. Overall Little Tokyo is a fun and festive restaurant that has good food and a younger crowd, but still very friendly. Little Tokyo is such an amazing Japanese restaurant. If you're a sushi fan, their sushi menu has something for everyone.. If you love tempura, their tempura is perfect.. light crisp batter, lovely fresh veggies and special crisp shrimp... plus their dipping sauce is out of this world. Traditional Japanese cuisine is elevated because of the preparation and presentation. Chicken Katsu is so good, I order it each time, knowing I should expand my choice.. The crispy Katsu is offered with steamed fresh broccoli and carrots,.. and very good rice. The dipping sauce for the Katsu is also special, artfully arranged as a yin yang presentation with two complimentary options. The specialty cocktails list is extensive and the sake selection is tops. The clientele has seemed to be a mix of families with small children as well as couples or foursomes.. The restaurant is spacious and cheerful.. Service at Little Tokyo is prompt, gracious and helpful. ..we have been impressed with each server-- especially Tina. In short, i highly recommend Little Tokyo. read more

Honestly I was so surprised by little Tokyo - I was skeptical at first because of the location we were in but it was a happy surprise :) The sushi was really fresh and the rice for the nigiri was prepared perfectly ! They were very generous with their cuts (but it did not compromise the taste) My only complaint would be the chicken teriyaki - the chicken was cooked perfectly and ratio of rice to chicken was great - however, it was lacking flavor and taste! Review for lunch on 5/31/2021: We came here for lunch at around 1pm. The restaurant is clearly short of staff - we waited at the door for quite a few minutes until a person came to greet us. Then, after we sat down, we waited for about 15 minutes until someone came to serve us water. We said we were ready to order; the server said (in an angry tone): "I cannot serve you now. It's far from your turn. There are ten or fifteen tables before you". Then he rushed to another table to serve them water. If it is a matter of not having enough staff, they should at least explain to us in better attitudes. That way we would understand and wait patiently. The food was excellent, nevertheless. That's why I'm giving it four stars, balancing out the 2 stars I would have given to the quality of service alone. We ordered the Baby Hamachi Usuzukuri (veggies wrapped in raw fish), the Hokaiyaki (baked seafood in mayo sauce) and the Angel's Eyes sushi (basically all types of seafood combined in one dish). If there's a way to enjoy this food again without tolerating the bad service quality, that would be ideal! read more

They have all 3 different designed light fixtures, which I thought was odd. Anyways, the main problem is the quality of the food. Food: The teriyaki chicken is my go to order here. The sauce on the chicken is delicious and blends well with the rice it's served with. I'm also a huge fan of the house salad that comes with most meals. The dressing is made in house and it's is so delicious. I wish I knew what kind it was cause I would love to buy it to use at home. Miso soup also comes with most meals and is a yummy classic. I've also tried the shrimp/veggie tempura which are yummy. I've noticed the quality of the tempura fluctuates. Usually it is that perfect light crisp crunch while occasionally it is a bit closer to a regular batter fried item that can be found at any American pub. I recently tried the Hawaiian roll and it was not for me. Granted there are a lot of ingredients to it but the roll was cut so thick that it was not an easy bite. There were also just a lot of flavors going on so it was difficult to just enjoy any of them. Service: Polite and quick. They will probably bring out your food before you finish your salad so the table gets crowded quickly with half eaten starters. Ambience: The restaurant has cool decorations. Some of the tables are a bit small especially if you order appetizers/salad/soup. Space on the table top disappears quickly. read more

When it comes to sushi for lunch, Little Tokyo cannot be beat. The 2 roll combo at lunch is to be desired. It comes with your choice of two rolls, soup, salad and edamame. The soup is standard fare as is the salad and edamame. The sushi, however, is not standard. I have never had bad sushi from Little Tokyo. The Unagi roll is my personal favorite and it is always perfect. The staff is always attentive. It definitely gets busy on the weekend, but you still can only expect a few minutes wait during peak lunch hours. If soup is more your thing, the House Noodle Soup is incredible. Unless you bring a serious appetite, plan to bring home a container. The various meats are delicious and the broth is perfect. The Shu Mai is literally 10/10. Make sure to dip.it in both sauces and prepare for a flavor Rollercoaster. Overall, Little Tokyo is the best option for sushi in Brunswick Downtown. read more

This is one of my favorite places to go when we go out of town. The food is amazing. The service is incredible. They always recognize us when we come in and we are from out of town. We get great service every single time the food I cannot rave about enough if you like sushi this is the best place to go. They have a separate room for huge parties. You can call and make reservation reservations for it's in the back room and out-of-the-way every time we go there it is always packed. You have to wait to get a seat. You don't have to wait long, but it is always packed, which is a very good sign. It is friendly and comfortable. As far as atmosphere goes. The sushi is always fresh and amazing and I definitely recommend this place to everyone that I talk to with that loves sushi and just a good place to go out to dinner. They serve other things other than sushi the regular Chinese food as well. They have a full bar. You definitely do not leave there hungry you get very good portions. read more

Great, cute place and good location. Some pretty good dished and a large variety of options on the menu. The Bento lunches and combos were all surprisingly good deals; I got the tempura maki bento which included 6 pieces of crazy maki and 6 pieces of spider maki and it was delicious. The 2 or 3 roll combo also looked like a good deal. Shrimp and vegetable tempura basket was good. It was lightly battered and not too oily. Kushi katsu was also pretty good and the sauce that came with it was good. The house salad also tasted pretty good. Miso soup was a little too salty. Out waiter was a little rude but thats okay. This place is so good! All the seafood tastes very fresh, and the veggies and meat do too. The sushi is fantastic, so are the soups and the bento boxes. Actually-everything is good here- lol. It is very beautiful inside and has a great view of downtown. It's easy to get to because it's right on the main downtown strip. It's really cool to see the chefs assemble the salads at the bar, and it shows how pro they are. They also have bubble teas, which comes in many flavors and are insanely good. Check out Aki and Little Saigon as well, they are all so good! My parents love it too, but they always have intense philosophical conversations and it makes me kinda uncomfortable. read more

If I could give this place a 3.5 stars, I would, but realistically to choose between the two I lean more towards three. Trust me, there was nothing BAD about this place- the food, service, and atmosphere were all good. But as the 3 stars indicate- it was A-OK. There are so many amazing sushi places in the greater Portland area that it's hard to give anything short of yosaku more than 4 stars. Here are my thoughts: The fish was good and fresh and the rice was perfect: This, above all else, is the most important thing and why if I ever lived in the area or found myself in Brunswick again I would totally make this a regular stop. The sushi was definitely good. The menu was small and nothing jumped out at me: don't get me wrong, I don't need a huge sushi menu to be happy, and one loaded with roll after roll that's "tempura friend with spicy on top" is just not my jam or indicative of a good sushi place. But Little Tokyo didn't have a salmon and avocado roll on the menu! Obviously they still made it, but that was shocking to me. The drink menu also seemed limited: Granted, they had an extensive list of sake cocktails and fruity tropical drinks, but as someone who is not a fan of both I felt I had limited choices. Granted, I applaud them for picking a niche and committing. The service was prompt and attentive. So, does this place stand up against a Yosaku or Miyake? No. but is it a great local spot that will cure any sushi craving with good fresh sushi? Definitely! I would go back! read more

I went here for lunch and got a bento box with fried noodles and a spicy tuna roll. You get a great amount of food for the money. I don't usually like sushi but the spicy tuna roll was very good, it had great flavor. I got the udon noodles which ended up being much bigger than I expected, the texture of the noodles was odd, but the overall flavor of the dish was great. I have been here multiple times in the past and I always enjoy my meal. It can be a little pricey for dinner but the lunch options are good and it's worth the money.
