The food is unique and very good for a bar. You get a sense that this place is more then a bar but it is hard to keep that impression after you have stood and waited like cattle for a table. The dinning room is very small. If this place could expand or move to a larger space it would be huge. With that said the beer selection was excellent. I am never disappointed with Sapsuckers. It's become my favorite go-to bar in Huntington. The food is great, but I mostly go for the drinks. I love their wide variety of beer (bottled and on-tap). Also, It's really nice how they change up the taps every couple of weeks, making it a wonderful place for craft beer lovers! It wasn't overly crowded on Saturday night, despite the red sox cardinals game 3 on the bar's tv. There were no more seats in the bar area so they let us take a table in the dining area since the kitchen had closed. We ordered a few beers from the large selection. Stopped on for dinner with my son (father son bonding, he calls it). As usual, he ordered the pretzel appetizer. A little bready, but tasty with nostril clearing mustard. Food is delicious here!! Had the stroganoff and blackened catfish. Also had the special beef barley soup which was amazing. The french fries are delicious and the beer selection is awesome. Would return anytime for lunch and/or dinner. The vegetable burger is house made which is a plus but it doesnt hold together too well. The fish and chips looked like fish sticks to me. There is definitely a wide enough variety for anyone to find something to eat. There are some moderately healthy options. Service is efficient ,friendly, thorough and knowledgeable when it comes to the menu. The lighting is not abundant, I don't have a problem with it but when I'm sitting at the table and someone is using the flashlight app , that can get super annoying. I would consider this establishment as a casual environment that is perfect place to get a drink and a something good to eat. The wings were crispy, had a good flavor and I would definitely get them again. I could imagine it gets pretty loud during the weekend or on a busy night. I had the Pulled-Pork Burrito (a special) recommended by the server which was tasty and thoroughly enjoyed. My Mom always gets the grilled-cheese there and she usually does not order un-healthy items. The fries are pretty good as well, not over-salted and thin. The dining room has a sheek-rustic look and the bathrooms are clean and orderly. The prices are moderate and comparable to other spots in the surrounding area. Parking I guess would depend on the night but I had no problem finding a spot. read more

Went to Sapsuckers for lunch with my mom. She has a bad back and I have horrible sciatica. We were seated at a table and the chair exacerbated my sciatica pain. We asked to be moved to a booth and our waiter was more than accommodating. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the host/manager/owner who asked "which ladies" needed to be moved before telling our waiter no. We paid the overpriced $5 for our iced teas and left. As we drove home, I was hit with the overwhelming feeling that we were discriminated against. Even though two booths were open, the host refused to seat us at either. Safe to say we won't be returning. Who needs that kind of treatment when you're paying too much to begin with. read more

Yelp had taken me here. At first, it looked like any small, noisy, dark bar packed with people. When you go inside, towards the back, however there's a small room partitioned off to serve food. It didn't look like much so but we decided to try it out. And I'm so glad I did! The food is beyond great, it rivals NYC's four star's, giving a hearty touch to more refined dishes. I had the pot pie (o man, that was sooO YUM!), truffle Mac and cheese, soft pretzel, and Philly cheesesteak. You can tell that the meats in the cheesesteak and pot pie were roasted slowly so the wonderful flavors had time to develop. Hands down, a delicious, ideal meal. Way overpriced. Was recommended to come here for dinner before a show at the Paramount and was told the burgers were the best anywhere. My $16 Mallet burger was overcooked and just plain boring. Was expecting a lot more from a 'gastropub' The fries were decently cooked but definitely seemed to come from a freezer bag. The only standout was the pierogies that my wife and I shared as a appetizer. They were quite good. My wife got their grilled cheese sandwich, which was good, but again very overpriced. This gastropub is just SO worthy of five stars. My family and I were enjoying the beautiful Spring-like weather and wanted to stop somewhere in Huntington Village and eat. I have passed this place many times since they opened a couple of years ago and have never ventured in. For those of you who have done the same... GO IN!!! You are in for a treat. We were greeted at the door by extremely friendly staff and immediately seated by Jason - our knowledgeable and extremely helpful waiter. We are a family of four and never know what to expect from the restaurants around town... some are hit or miss for child-friendliness... Sapsuckers did have high-chairs and families with children. I would definitely say that during lunch and dinner, Sapsuckers is a great place to bring kids who are accustomed to going out with the family and will stay seated. This is not a place for kids to run around. There is also no child menu, but there are foods that the kids will love to eat; as I stated before... this is a great place to take kids who are accustomed to going out to eat with the family and make every effort to learn to use their "inside voices" and stay seated... The other fabulous distinction that I noticed was the multicultural atmosphere. We are a family of colour and my husband and I enjoy going places that are friendly and have a NYC feel to it... Sapsuckers more than fit the bill. People of all cultures and accents were in this pub... the friendliness level was great... within minutes, we were talking to people at other tables. I lived in England for many years... and for a bit, I kinda felt like I was back in London... :-) The decor was great. Many restaurants seem to have a dark, carpet-y ambiance... Sapsuckers was light and airy, while still retaining an air of upscale, yet welcoming. We took a look at the menu and were extremely pleased with the offerings... it was eclectic... yet American cuisine at the same time... I ordered the calamari and the spicy shrimp gumbo. Both were DELICIOUS... beyond what I expected. My husband had the pierogies and the chili special. He was very,very, very happy with his order and kept raving about how delicious the food is. My four year old and nine-year old had the "Decadent Dog", each prepared differently. They finished their lunch quickly and loved it so much they wanted seconds (that's a feat in itself for the four year-old). My husband is a beer connoisseur and was astonished by all the beers they had on tap. He found one he liked... opened the app on his smartphone and added it to his collection. It was just such a great time all around. We are not only going back, we are probably going to make this our "regular spot". The only con I would say is that it is a small space... and I have a feeling it will become a popular spot in the spring and summer due to the delicious food, multicultural atmosphere, friendly staff, and lively decor... I've been here a few times, a good place for meeting with friends for a few drinks and a bite. It's got a nice but casual atmosphere. I most recently had the cubano sandwich, it was good. The food is interesting and decent, like duck confit and wild boar sausage. The bartenders could use a little more education in terms of serving up drinks. We met some friends at Sapsuckers today for a late (and I mean tummy-grumbling, feeling weak, why-didn't-we-eat-breakfast-again late) lunch. I was ready to eat anything and everything, and I'm glad we came here to do it. It seems they source most of their produce and bread locally and you can taste the care they put into selecting their ingredients in the final dishes. After forgoing my desire to try the mac and cheese I decided to have the veggie burger which is unlike any veggie burger I have ever tasted, and it is delicious. This is coming from a gal who has had many a veggie burger due to that usually being the only meatless item on the menu in many establishments (which is not the case at Sapsuckers, by the way.) and I had actually braced myself to simply tolerate it. Little did I know I would actually love it! Both the bun and the burger itself are rich and almost velvety The burger is made of actual vegetables, rather then the usual brown rice or lentil base. Fresh spinach and perfectly cooked mushrooms form the majority of the patty and it's almost held together by a melted layer of delightful fontina cheese, which adds nicely to the richness and flavor. Oh and the herbed fries? Amazing. I tasted the warm butter baked pretzel (delightful app to share with the table while you wait) and sampled my friend's fish and chips, which had a tasty batter with a perfect crunch to it. Everyone was more than satisfied with their food choices. If you're a beer drinker, which I am not, you'll be pleased as punch with their well chosen beer selection. My dining companions were thrilled with their choices. I got a very tasty and crisp local cider. Next time we visit I'll probably sample some of the wine selection, which is pretty small but I have a feeling they're as good at selecting wines to feature as they are beers. They offer a great menu and I've never had to worry about ordering something that wasn't amazing. I'm a big fan of their Mallet Burger with a fried egg on top. Hands down the best burger you can get in Huntington. They have cod tacos on the menu which I recently discovered and can't get enough of and the nachos are practically a meal. Anyone who is a Huntington native would agree that this place is notorious for its beer draft selections as well. Everything is top notch quality at a top notch price.
