Great food ...so why did I leave feeling lousy ?? Because after having a great meal, the bill was presented with not simply a 'thank you for coming' ... It had a giant red stamp on it that says "Tips in cash only". Hmmmm.... Ok. But then, upon receiving the credit card sign off, It is noticed there is a close to 4% credit card fee. So this establishment truly wants you to use cash. We all know the game. That's ok. But to charge the 2% ( what the business likely has to pay the card companies and then ANOTHER 2% for ..... ? Huh ??? This is just plain bad marketing. If an entrée cost 20 bucks and you don't wanna pay the credit card fee, just charge $21 for the same entrée and not rile everybody up? Still don't want to take the credit cards and pay fees? Then offer a substantial discount for cash... not a huge amount and not forever. How about 5% off for cash and then eventually after a year, phase that out ? Everybody understands what's going on. nobody gets uptight. This would be a lot smarter than having people thinking about financial practices, bookkeeping and their monthly credit card bill as they walk to their car. Several of my friends have adopted a new policy when they see a credit card service fee. They leave 10% tip with a note asking the business owner to cover the other 5 to 10% depending on how good the service was, bringing up the total tip to 15 or 20%. But the very idea that anyone on the customer side is taking the time to write about this, as opposed to the food/service/ambiance is sad. So easy to remedy... Why not make an attempt? I read more

We have loved and patronized Shamrock for years. It is amazing that the food and service is always topnotch. And the prices make it accessible for all comers. Surprisingly tasty food in this funky, well-staffed restaurant and bar. Decorations cover the walls. There's a kids menu. Bar and restaurant areas are separated by a wall. Restaurant is at the corner of a small strip with a pizza place and other businesses. There's parking in the lot in front and on the side, or up the hill right next to it. You can sit at a table in the parking lot and watch the TV out there if that's your thing. We preferred to be in the colorful indoors part. The wait staff (including hostess and busboy) was attentive and helpful. read more

We used to go here a lot - but since i don't live in the area anymore, I get to go infrequently now. The bartenders are usually very good and the place gets hopping later in the evening. Only the real people come here.(fake people stay on their own side of the street) Drinks are decent, food is decent, staff are always friendly and talkative. You will find everyone from babies to seniors here. This place has a personality all its own. Bonus if you are from Huntington because you will more often then not, bump into someone you know. The bartenders are great and if you are nice will buy back. One time I ordered something I didn't care for ( I can't remember exactly but it might have been a quesadilla) and the bartender noticed that we weren't eating it and took it away and credited the bill! Excellent food, good drinks and desserts, nice place to get together for few drinks and food, very friendly atmosphere even a nice couple seating next to me offer to hold my baby because he was a little anxious. We were a group of 10 and we all enjoy the food and the place, is not loud at all for having a pub next to the dinning area, we all had a blast like they logo says "Where they're no strangers only friends who have not yet met" Don't let me forget telling you they sell lottery tickets and I think you can place a bet on racing tracks but I'm not sure about that read more

Thought the outdoorsy look was cool. Tables outside, beautiful early evening and was ready for beer + burgers. Nice little divey bar in Huntington across from Prime Steakhouse. Came in here for some drinks and late snack. A little bit expensive for Modelo draught beer. $8 is a bit excessive. Really enjoyed the nuggets and cheese sticks. read more

The Shamrock.. I still love this local place but not sure what the management is thinking. Most of the good staff has been let go and some of the staff now is just confused/clueless. However the food is still above par bar food that good beyond your typical burgers, salads, and deep fried apps. The wings are great and used to be even better when they were free for football Sundays... Overall if you want a local bar with good food visit the shamrock when the rest of Huntington is too crowded. read more

Went yesterday late afternoon for a quick bite with a couple of families. I had called ahead and spoken to the bartender to ask if it was ok to come in and if there were tables available in the side room (knowing we couldn't be in the bar area with kids). She could not have been nicer. So it was super bizarre when the owners came out of the kitchen in a complete lather about the fact that we had our kids with us. They said tables were for paying customers (our kids are like 10 years old, they eat more than I do) and there was "absolutely no way they would be allowed to sit," that it wasn't a Chuckie Cheese and that they refused to have kids "running around all over the place," and that "we couldn't just come in and expect to take over the whole place" (there were a solid 5 tables still empty!) This came out of literally nowhere. At the time, in fact all the kids were seated quietly at a table, and keep in mind this is not fine dining. It's a pub. We left and didn't even order anything - we were basically kicked out. Three families at 4:45 on a Saturday just looking for a burger and a beer after Homecoming. Place wasn't even busy, and we called ahead. I'll never go back. It's a shame because we are local and have come here for years for a beer/burger or take out. Truly never been treated like that in my life at a restaurant. The level of misplaced/weird/inappropriate anger was actually confusing and mildly abusive. Cant believe it took me so long to sit down in this bar and actually eat a meal but I was not disappointed! They start you off with these amazing crispy REAL potato chips with ranch as a dipping sauce - Perfect and absolutely addicting. Service is great and quick. I got the cheese burger added bacon of course and it was just how I thought it would be. A perfect bar burger. The chicken fingers were also some of the best I've had in a very long time.
